I just found this while browsing newegg Australia, this is the cheapest 32GB ram set I've found so I thought some of you guys might be interested.

I just found this https://www.newegg.com/global/au-en/Product/Product.aspx?Ite… 3000Mhz CL14 if that helps
EDIT: NVM 16GB
https://www.newegg.com/global/au-en/Product/Product.aspx?ite… 32GB 3200Mhz CL16 for $342.10 is pretty tempting.
Sorry if this is a noob question but these are marketed as Intel Z170 memory chips. Given I thought the DDR standard was meant to be interchangeable between platforms, what makes this Intel specific memory? Why not AMD compatible? (Or is it just marketing?)
@tophorus: From some quick Googling it's mainly to do with XMP, some kind of DDR4 specific feature. By default DDR4 ram runs at 2133Mhz, but special XMP settings can be turned on in motherboards to boost this up to the advertised speeds. Unfortunately it seems like XMP is not well standardised across motherboards or platforms so DDR4 seems to suffer more from compatibility problems than prior generations.
@NoRotation: Ah OK, that makes sense. I think you've hit the nail on the head - I did a bit of googling around AMD and XMP and it sounds like XMP is proprietary to Intel so in theory AMD is unable to use it. However I did stumble across this article:
https://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/article/615223/ryzen-works-xm…
which claims that some AMD motherboards actually seem to pay attention to XMP profiles even if they're not meant to!Either way, sounds like it'd be luck of the draw if it works (as easily) if you get the wrong RAM.
Cheers!
for 64GB of this one it works out to be $691 incl GST.
Hence why I chose the G.SKILL Sniper X Series 64GB (4 x 16GB) 288-DDR4 - 3000MHz CL16 - F4-3000C16Q-64GSXKB
instead from NewEgg which was $658.There is no speed difference for DDR4 above 3000MHz
So I can technically get 2 of these and have 64GB Ram?
yep, 32 + 32 = 64
I've heard that there can be issues with matching even identical kits of ram, although tbh, I wouldn't know how much of that is true and how much is manufacturer propaganda lol
I've always heard the opposite, best to match the batch dates together. To be honest though I've often thrown whatever together and been fine, just keeping to the same brand and speeds and not paying attention to batch dates.
Just be sure 2400Mhz is what you want. For a Ryzen CPU they love faster speeds. Not sure about Intel. There are some deals on 3000 - 3200Mhz kits for Ryzens around the $400 mark.
if you just want 1 stick 8gb ~$76: https://www.newegg.com/global/au-en/Product/Product.aspx?Ite…
That's a good price.
Yesterday I bought G.SKILL Sniper X Series 64GB (4 x 16GB) 288-DDR4 - 3000MHz CL16 - F4-3000C16Q-64GSXKB
http://www.gskill.com/en/product/F4-3000C16Q-64GSXFB
from newegg for $658
2400 CL16 :(
