Condolences, the smart grinder is $179 also
At least I get the black colour, which I personally prefer. And I get 150 factory bouns pack ( I value it at most $50, just 750g coffee bean and coffee mugs)
How you going with the machine? Pulling awesome coffees yet? Any weakness in the setup?
I would it is not easy to make a decent coffee. For coffee extraction you must have 3 elements right: grind size, coffee dose and tap pressure. You might waste some coffee bean to practice.
For milk texturing you can just learn from youtube, not that hard.
You need to fill up the shot so it is perfect height to get the right pressure.
@Budju: not that easy mate. Good news is smart grinder is kind of smart
@zhangqin2211: Ultimately you need to tamp it a few times and just know you need to leave 1 or 2 mm off at the top. Tamp quite firmly. It should be quite snug when you twist it on.
@Budju: Thanks mate. still practice my coffee making skill.
@zhangqin2211: The most frustrating thing and what you want to avoid is putting in too much coffee as youll need to remove some into the sink cause it wont screw on.
I bought a pressure tamper which clicks when the right pressure is applied. This really helped me get a consistent dose. Also, you need to make sure you get it level, which I wasn't doing and now I have corrected that.
Getting these things right has improved the coffee quality immensely.
Is the model you purchased BES920 or BES920BSS? Or possibly you bought BES990?
Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for.
Definitely not BES990. BES990 has dual boiler as well as built-in grinder. It does auto tap and auto milk texturing too.
My one is BES920 BLK, which is the same model but in black colour.
The BSS only refers to the colour i.e. Stainless Steel. Black and Cranberry models have different "suffix" codes.
I believe there is no more cranberry. I placed a bac order in myer and get refund 2 weeks. Myer listed for $999 which is not that bad price
@zhangqin2211: Yeah I can only see a refurb or overseas model on ebay now.
@gadgetguy: I think binglee ebay is doing some deals. you may be able to get the coffee machine+ smart grinder under $900
@zhangqin2211: Oh I already bought one yesterday. It was delivered today!
I was only commenting on the colour variations.
@gadgetguy: O yes, sorry for the miscommunication. Cranberry one was discontinued, but you can definitely find black one
damn son
Purchase history is interesting. Someone bought 3 of them an hour before the 15% off code went up.

Guess they missed the memo.
kim jong un - explains your theory
The model number on most other deals seems to omit the "BSS". Are The Good Guys stocking a different/unique model, or is this the same as all the other BES920 deals?
It's the same unit. BSS just indicates it's stainless steel.
Edit: ^ beat me to it
at that price should get a rancilio silvia
Silvia's are ~$900, single boiler and PID's are extra..
hope you like temp surfing
Can't tell if trolling or actually serious
My Breville coffee machine just lost pressure
Poor build quality?
Is it the Bes900 by any chance?
Bes 920
If it's out of warranty, I'd check the solenoid valve gasket as they're susceptible to melting and blocking the holes. Is the espresso coming out slowly as well?
You have to finely adjust the density of the coffee. I had the same issue and fixed it by adjusting the grind to make it denser. Then the pressure went back to normal.
@gadgetguy: Yep, happened to me the first time I changed beans, had to change it wildly to a much finer grind to get the pressure.i needed, otherwise it was a watery mess and very low pressure
They are very hit and miss. Breville are great with support if within warranty.
If the grind goes out of wack eg suddenly you go with decaf beans etc, the pressure can fall off. It's a long shot and situational. If you understand all that and it's not grind related then yeah warrenty time
Great machine, cafe quality coffee as long as you get good beans ie not woollies shelf quality
How much better is this than the barista express coffee machine? I've been wanting to get a good machine for cappuccino's mainly.
definitely a league above the barista express. i bought it at this price a year ago, best purchase ever.
How long does it take roughly to make a good cup of capp? Usually in a rush in the morning >.<
I am a "get out of bed, shower, dress, eat, leave" sort of guy.
Honestly, I turn on the machine before shower for it to warm up and it takes 5 mins to make a cup*, I also don't eat cereal anymore because I have a double shot.
So not really that much effort once you're in habit :) I also think it's essential to grab the smart grinder too to make it quick and easy once you have the right grind size+amount to take out guesswork
*It takes a lot of practice to make a decent coffee. As suggested by others, prepare some time on a weekend and get ready to throw some shots out. I went to a short barista course where they show you all the wrong techniques so you can identify them, and I'm still learning :)
Does anyone know how to get an extended warranty with this deal (on top of the manufacturer's warranty)? The Good Guys don't seem to provide extended warranty anymore?
Do you have a credit card which has an extended warranty feature?
No I'm afraid not… Out of curiosity, the ones that come with credit card, are they usually quite reliable and easy to deal with if there is any problems with the purchased goods / services?
Added this to my cart on the desktop site and i got a popup about the good guys extended care. Try it on there if you haven't already (pyippee code not working now, but P5OFF will still get you about $39 off)
Had this machine for 2.5yrs ago, picking it up for $799 back then. Starting to leak from the group head, but ordered a grommet to replace which should fix it up.
Don’t be cheap like I was and try to descale with bi-carb/vinegar.
Can you descale on your own? Or do you have to send it away?
Its in the manual, there's a descaling process using a descaling solution.
https://s.productreview.com.au/products/manuals/301518_55c2f…
Strange as the BES870 suggests using vinegar to descale it.
https://www.breville.com.ph/downloads/bes870_ib_b12_fa_lowre…
Perhaps the 920 is a little more particular being a dual boiler?
Yes the 920 is easy to descale yourself. Mine lost pressure after 2yrs, and the pumps struggled, after using a vinegar/bi-carb mix a few times during those 2yrs. But after using a commercial descaler, it ran fine.
Had this for over a year now and still happy.
Thanks, got one finally! Bought the smart grinder a few months ago and was making coffee with an aeropress so far. Will use it for travelling now.
Don’t forget to get 5% off ebay e-gift cards to bring it down to $645.19 and cashrewards to finalise all.
that is nice. Dam just paid $1150 for the machine+smart grinder 10 days ago.
