Is this an effort by a company to help aid workers to quickly learn some Japanese? IE volunteers going to Japan not us lot sitting at home? Just asking …

    • Its just a beginner course for Japanese. They are offering for free because of the large amount of aid workers leaving AU for Japan. But the contents are generic, and are not aimed specifically for aid workers. Anyone can use them.

  • The other languages got removed due to dupe. Can you please link them here?

Anyone else experience audio skipping? It's impossible to learn with the frequent skipping.

    • It did something weird to my audio. I think it crashed the audio service or something.

    • yeah it's skipping in itunes for me too? any ideas?

    • The MP3 files are corrupted. Since the zip file isn't, they stuffed up when they made the zip file.

    • So is this a waste of time getting (due to corrupt audio)?

I purchased this some years back, so for it to be free now is great!

    • Bought the entire course for my yr11-12 Japanese unit too!
Now I can intro my friends to learn Japanese =)

Oh wow, you're all aid workers? Good on you. I'd hate for people to abuse this and download it when they're not going to help. Pimsleur would notice that hundreds of people are downloading their programs for free and not offer this kind of thing to legitimate aid workers in the future. "Oh no, a massive disaster in Germany. We'd better offer German lessons to the aid workers". "Nah, remember what happened last time, a whole heaps of jerks stole it and we lost a heap of money". Seriously, go steal money from the donations tins.

It is advertised free for download on their website. It is not a secret, it is for anyone to everyone, Trust me there will not be hundreds of people downloading, However in the hundred thousands.

Their main course is 90 lessons (Comprehensive Level I, II,III), so even it may be free first 16 lessons, users who want to get to the next level will have to purchase the remainder lessons.

P.S They have been doing these free lessons for many years now. I am sure they are not really worried about users downloading free products they offer to the world.

      • The website does not say it is for free to anyone. It says only "Free downloads for workers to Japan" and "Pimsleur is providing aid workers with free downloads".

        • and how do you know who is an aid worker and who is not? this is why it is online for free for everyone. anyone can be an aid worker, No one is pressured to download this, It is there, Download or don't its everyones own choice

Bargainmiester is correct and it is in the deal description, but I have highlighted this in case others may have missed this.

Agreed it is for aid workers only. People need to look at their own situation and take into account that abusing this aid offer could lead to no further offers being made by this company.

But that is a judgement for individuals. Personally given its limited appeal - ie Aid workers this may have been better to post in the forums, as its not targetted to most bargain hunters.

That said it is a fine line. Deals and offers that were only for QLD flood victims were posted, and it is likely that some who while lived in QLD and took advantage of the offers, were not actual flood victims.

Although comments about the ethics shouldn't be dismissed by others here, there is a right on a marginal issue for comments to be heard. Maybe someone who was going to take the deal, without realising the implications or the morality involved may change their mind.

  • I'm still wondering what 'ARGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH' translates into in Japanese

  • Hopefully these vids will make things easier for aid workers esp if done in leotards with arm gestures ;-)
