Happy to pay more but I’m waiting for a deal on a UHD 32”

  • Isnt there a IPS version of this?

    • Yep model number Q3279VWD8 better viewing angles but worse when it comes to displaying blacks and whites. I prefer VA because I watch lots of movies too.

      • People have complained of ghosting on the VA. I have no ghosting on my IPS version.. Looking to pick up a second one I think.

        • Have you tried overclocking your current ones?

Im currently on some 25 inch ips displays, overclocked to 78hz.

Id like to hit 80 or 90hz if possible.

  • AOC have 2 versions of the QHD 32" …. this is the VA version, I would recommend paying $20 more and getting the IPS version. I have had mine for 3+ months and paid $283 or something. around that.

apparently (based on @iratepirate's comment) sounds like the VA version has better blacks?!

VA almost always has better contrast than IPS.

One panel type is not better than the other; it's what you prefer that determines which panel type you like.

IPS: better viewing angles, less contrast, 'glowing' edges.
VA: Inky contrast, bad viewing angles (what you determine as 'bad' is up to you, I don't see viewing angles as a problem as I sit in front of my screen), blacks also have the tendency to 'bleed' when scrolling depending on panel quality.

VA is the only screen type I'd personally willingly buy.

        • thanks mate, yea sounds like VA is the go

        • Un-ironic question, what are the upsides of TN? Just price?

*Weird place to ask I know, just curious.

@N1NJ4W4RR10R: Price, low ghosting and fast response times. They're better for high refresh rate monitors.

  • I have the IPS version of this monitor and it is very good. Start up time is a bit lengthy but that's about the only complaint I have about it. I've thoroughly enjoyed playing through the Witcher 3 at 1440p!

    • That'd be noice for sure.

      I'd imagine you'd have a beefy rig?

  • Is there a smaller version? I'd like a 27" model - 32" is just too big for my liking.

    • The model you linked is 144hz fhd, this post is qhd

      • Yep, discovered that 5 seconds after posting - now removed.

There is a 27" model, but it's way more expensive for some reason…over $500 after discount.

        • Size weirdly doesn't seem to add a tonne to cost, it's resolution/refresh rate.

So a slightly smaller pannel with both 144hz and 1440p would end up costing more than a slightly bigger pannel running half the refresh rate and 1440p.

          *From my experience anyways.

  • would VA or IPS be better for reading text, web browsing etc? or pretty much the same?

    • If looking at the screen head on, pretty much the same.

    • TMK resolution's the important factor there, not the pannel type.

Though (based off an earlier comment) VA tends to have some black blur when moving, which I'd imagine could look weird for text (which tends tk be black).

  • This or Samsung U28E590D monitor from other deal ? I dont do gaming anymore. Mainly for coding and watching movie. would it be too big ? any suggestion appreciated :) thanks !

IPS version user here. The IPS version is pretty good so far. Size is not too big. 31.5” is Okay size for 2018/2019 standard. I wouldn’t go back to smaller screen.

that one ? what would you recommend. IPS vs VA . from what i read IPS is much better for photoshop and editing
I will be using it for mainly work such as coding and movies .
just a little bit of gaming here and there ( dota2 , CS Go ) that's.

        • Q3279VWFD8 is the IPS version. better colour than VA version.

          • @wen87n: Catch
catch has it for 290+ delivery then . thinking to grab it now ;3

            • @triplenet: I got it with eBay coupon for 279, just for reference :3

              • @wen87n: the cheapest i find atm is 350 :(
edit : i think i will get this one as IPS is more better for photo editing etc which i don't do. I watch more video ,coding only and slightly gaming. Thanks for advise :)

                • @triplenet: That monitor on the Catch page you've cited isn't the Q3279VWFD8. Look closely: the description says “VA IPS-type” (emphasis added).

                  • @dudeguy: Rather, it's the Q3279VWF8 (no “D”). I can't figure-out how it differs from the Q3279VWF; however, it seems to be an Australia-only model code (whereas Q3279VWF and Q3279VWFD8 are used both in Australia and elsewhere).

  • Thats a crazy price for those specs.. ips or not.

I went ahead and bought one of these. So far, I have overall been satisfied with it; however, the chassis (including the stand) seems flimsy and the monitor's PSU flexes inward, away from the chassis, when the power cable is plugged in hard enough for the operator to verify that it is indeed fully plugged in — I found such a verification necessary because when first I connected the cable it didn't go in the whole way. Some online reviews (links below) mention colour distortion necessitating software adjustment, but straight out of the box the colours look accurate to my eye: I surmise that AOC has improved the firmware since those reviews were written.
