  • You should be able to find the lower power usage Seagate helium drives for similar pricing, and the external versions seem also to be dropping in price - Amazon AU had the Seagate HUB version for $378(with the 10% cashback it was pretty good pricing). Shopping Express and UMart had similar pricing. From memory Computer alliance get close to via their 15% off. ANyway, looks like pricing is finally dropping so I decided to wait for Black Friday.

    • I believe WD Red is helium-filled as well, and should have a similar power usage.

      • I think it's only the Red Pro's that are helium, the standard Red's are not. I am happy to be proven wrong though.

dare I ask what helium-filled does other than make it lighter?

I'd keep an eye on www.reddit.com/r/datahoarder. The 10TB Easystores were around 180 USD recently, and probably will be around that price around Black Friday.

Problem is best buy etc get all the best deals, we get nothing.

    • I'm assuming shipping charges and GST will destroy the deal?

      • best buy etc don't ship internationally.

        • Use a shipping forwarder

          • @futaris: It wouldn't be worth it then I think. Price matching to amazon on Officeworks would be a better option

            • @Sopzo: I doubt Officeworks would do that, Amazon won't ship it.

              • @samfisher5986: The success rate isn't 100%, but it can work. There was a thread about this on /r/datahoarder

At the worst case, you might have to visit multiple officeworks

                • @Sopzo: Seems like you are just trying to trick officeworks staff and I'm not that kind of person.

They aren't meant to accept it, they would only accept it if they weren't trained very well and thought amazon.com = amazon.com.au

10TB! That's an awful lot of Linux ISOs!

  • Will these work on HP microserver By any chance?

  • Pulled the trigger on 6 of these. Time to find a new home for my 8 4TB WD Reds now. Poor bastards only had 21MB left of free storage between them :(

    • Just curious, what NAS config do you have?
