14 Days Free Trial @ Kayo Sports (Foxtel's New Sports Streaming Service)

1490
LAUNCH

Foxtel has soft-launched its standalone sport streaming service, Kayo Sports. They are offering a 14 day trial for new users. Some details are below:

It includes access to over 50 sports such as AFL, NRL, A-League, NBA, NBL, NFL, motor racing and perhaps most importantly, cricket (especially the ODIs and T20s that are exclusive to Foxtel). Foxtel has signed deals to offer both ESPN and BeIN Sports Australia output in Kayo Sports.

It’s priced at $25 per month for two simultaneous streams and $35 per month for three streams. This seems to be better value than Foxtel Now which recently raised its cost to $54 per month for 720p sport streaming (Kayo seems to be offering 1080p).

Kayo Sports is currently in beta, which means it currently only offers in-browser streaming (primarily for Google Chrome, Safari and Firefox on desktop and mobile) and Chromecast compatibility. Speculation is that Android, iOS, Telstra TV, Android TV, and Apple TV apps are in development.

Users can also set favourite sports and teams as well as utilise a feature to block spoilers/scores. Other features are split screen, picture in picture with up to four different streams and even key moment tagging, such as for goals, wickets etc.

    • Has jb hifi separated from telstra? I used to work at telstra 10 months ago and jb hi fi were just a telstra dealer. If it is still the same you are signed up to telstra just through a middle man so the data free streaming would still apply. Unless they have changed it on their new plans.

      • I don't know if they have separated from Telstra but these new JB plans don't have data sharing sims so something might have changed - but I do know that it works now.
        Cheers

    • Similar with me. I have Optus, they gave me a fetch box when they stuffed up the world cup. I hot spot to my fetch box and get unmetred Netflix, Stan, ABC iview. I was supposed to get Cricket unmetered but I can't add that app to the Fetch box and the windows store cricket app doesnt work this season. I used cricket.com.au for the last odi but it used me data. Tried casting my phone to PC but said not supported on the app. Whatever I'm happy with unlimited Netflix and iView with my $30 phone plan being my only internet. Bargain

      • how does this work? i have the same fetch box

        • Just set your phones hot spot as the Fetch Box internet. Ensure your plan has mobile TV streaming active and you're good to go. I watch Netflix, iView and Fetch TV all unmetered. Last month my phone handset said I used over 140gb while my Optus account remained under 30GB

  • Will this have sports shows eg matty johns? Or is this just for live sport only

  • Hey all I just want to watch the one day and T20 cricket. Is this what I need or would Foxtel Now be better? I dont have any foxtel at home and I would like to stream to chromecast.

    • +1

This would be better imo, cheaper and more features

      • +1

Thanks - signed up, quick and painless and currently streaming Aus vs SA one dayer! Woohoo

  • anyone know how the cancellation works? do you keep the service until the end of your billing period?

    • Also, how will this go with account sharing between 2 people?

      • To account share give it out your username and password to people you trust ;), there is no actually account sharing, just smart Ozbargainers splitting with their mates.

    • As usual with all trials, they are hoping you forget and they can charge you. They even automatically sign you up to the $35 plan, and you have to downgrade to $25. Make sure you set a reminder to cancel in 14 days, or click cancel now straight after signing up and it will work for 14 days.

  • Anyone else got stuck at the "code sent to mobile" page? I kept pressing the "resent code" button but received no sms on my mobile. Pretty sure that the phone number I entered is correct and my phone is working correctly.

  • Is there Rugby Union?

  • +1

$25 for two simultaneous streams, does that mean I can go halves in an account with someone Netflix style?

    • Yep that's correct - or even more people, if you can co-ordinate such that not more than 2 of you are streaming at the same time (might be possible in particular if you and you friends follow different sports)

  • +5

As much as I dislike Foxtel - good on them for listening to the people who say they don't want Foxtel they just want the sport.

Going halves or thirds with someone makes this quite affordable.

Hopefully Telstra can come to the party and make it unmetered streaming.

  • Hopefully this is a step in the right direction. If it had tennis, EPL (I believe currently owned by Optus?) and all NBA games then I'd get it in a heartbeat. Especially if there was anytime replays and 'spoiler free' settings. It would be great to have special sports events (eg olympics), world cups etc.

    • I thought I saw tennis listed on the page ? Wimbledon and The French Open at least ? Plus ESPN normally show some of the US open.

  • Chromecast not working for me. The TV shows up with "Kayo sports" logo on the screen but the video shows in my browser tab.

    • +2

Scrap that, need to disable adblocker for casting to work.

      • Or you can choose "cast tab" instead of "kayosports.com.au".
Good to know disabling adblocker works. I was having same issues as well haha!

Only voucher active at the moment is LAUNCH which enables the 14-day free trial.

  • This is actually a really good move by them, it's a bit of a double edged sword, because it will have people dropping their foxtel subscription for this, but on the other hand there will be people like me who couldn't justify all the extra cost for all the random crap you didn't want who will be jumping on this. I think the price is fair.

  • Unless I missed it the only golf being shown is the Masters, yet it will be free to air anyway??

  • +1

anyone have a 'voucher' code for LONGER than the 14 days free trial?

    • +4

Use ur friend of friend of friend of friend’s email address? Maybe something with a “.”?

  • I know this has spiltview but can you log into 2 computers at once for example? Or only the 1 account logged in at once?

    • You can, with the $25, two people logged in and if $35, three people.

  • Was casting to a Vodafone TV from an Android phone that was running Kayo in the Chrome browser for a few hours last night - worked surprisingly well :)

  • Shame I can't just have the sports channels and nothing else run through the foxtel box at home for $25 per month. Internet isn't reliable enough to stream.

  • Looks good. I like too how they have shows like First Take and Get Up! which were never available on either WatchESPN or Foxtel Go on demand services. Shame it's still in 25/30 fps and not 50/60, so it will probably look a bit framey on larger screens, but still good enough I guess. Not a direct replacement from the decoder though unfortunately.

Splitting the screens is amazing though. Would be great to have a huge 4K TV, and watch 4 sports in a Grid at the one time.

  • Could someone please tell me what payment methods they accept? do they take PayPal? I looked around for an answer on the site, and you need to verify via your mobile before you get to see the payment screen. Cheers.

cc only by the looks of it

The question is, is this promo pricing?

At least they're not drip feed pricing like +$10 HD

    • yup if they put 1080p in the $35 package I wouldn't bother.

  • +1

How would one use this on an XBOX… or they wouldn’t?

  • THIS IS GREAT.

i have never purchased foxtel, or any sports packages, but always been disappointed i couldn't affordably watch sports. just pulled the trigger on the basic and sharing it with my dad. $12.50 a month for all this sport is certainly something that I can do.

  • Anyone else finding the player absolutely hogging resources on Windows + Chrome?

  • .d

  • This sounds pretty good - might replace my foxtel sports when it runs out in March. Interestingly they haven't guaranteed ALL 'AFL' games "live in HD" like other sports. Hopefully it takes off and this changes!

  • Casting on telly is stuttering for me.

    Streams really well on computer.

you might need a Chromecast Ultra

One of the guys on Whirlpool, had the same issue with Chromecast Gen2, bought an Ultra & it's working
      https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2763582&…

      • Yeah I see. I also did a chat with kayo and they said currently it works with ultra. Given its beta I reckon its only time before my 2nd gen CC works..

  • seems okay whilst browsing it, definitely not 50 sports.

  • finally! first test looked good and usable. Watching A-League tonight will be a proper test.

    • How'd it go?

  • Darn no epl. Thought I could use free trial to watch the Sunday Manchester derby.

    • EPL is owned by Optus, not Foxtel unfortunately.

  • Very timely for me. After refusing to pay for foxtel now account and not bothering with all the league pass style subscriptions. I just went with a dodgy iptv subscription. (Which has been amazing btw)

This service sounds promising now just waiting for evil corp to screw it up.

  • Unfortunately they don't have any sports that are on Eurosport. Still need Foxtel for that

    • dont they have Bundassliga?

      • It does. Bundesliga is on Bein sports. Also has the other 4 top euro leagues (la liga, serie A etc.)

  • Isn't the Foxtel sport available for $29 total as part of the entertainment and sport package through Foxtel by Telstra? Wouldn't this be better value as you get more than just the sport and also can record it.

    • +1

Kayo Sports offers match replays, with the added feature of skipping to key moments (e.g. in cricket, that would be wickets, sixes etc.)

      • yeah this is way better with the replays….they jsut need mobile apps and and app for xbox one, ps4

  • Anyone keen to do this one combined together "$35 per month for three streams" if i can get 2 more people can get it done and will cost less than $12 each per month

    • Keen. PM me if you find another person :)

    • Very interested if still available

      • all spots are taken , ill keep u posted if things change thanks

  • How long do the replays/on demand replays stay on there for?

    • Not sure, but a few examples: for the cricket, the earliest replay they have is for a JLT cup match from 26 September. For football, it is a La Liga match from 29 October. For tennis, it is a ATP Tour Stockholm Quarter Finals replay from 19 October.

Would be really easy for someone to make a Kodi app or something for this, to get the HLS-TS stream just play the stream and look for the https://vmndplay.kayosports.com.au/api/v1/asset/{ASSET_ID}/play.json?fields=alternativeStreams request response in network tools. There are multiple streams there from including DASH, HLS-MP4 and HLS-TS (which is the most widely supported) hosted by Akamai and Cloudfront.

    iOS/tvOS/Android apps now available.

    • Oooh thanks bud!

  • Is there 5.1/surround sound support? Just for the trial going for the T20 versus Indie and doesn't seem to be 5.1 via web browser. Insane amount of ads for a paid service! Really wish you could choose a single sport and pay a smallerfee. Only interested in the cricket and $25 a month is too rich for my blood. Still, its a step forward for Fox!

Now if optus could add to the free streaming services list…

It's just a glorified Foxtel division run by millennial hipsters to promote and throw this around and make money for the masters. Same old dinosaur behind it. Nice try Rupert.

  • Read here on whirlpool for the trials and errors and lots of other chatter about kayo.

  • Anyone wanting to share the cost of a kayo Sports subscription??? Let me know if are wanting to share existing or share a new account. Thanks

  • Anyone interested in sharing a kayo account together?

  • Anyone keen to go half with a new kayo account?

  • will you lose access if you cancel before trial ends?

    • To answer my own question, if you have 3 months trial, best to cancel in the 3rd month.
If you cancel in the first month, then you will lose the 2 trial months.
