ive got the same dilemma
Decided to go with the Sony. Watched a few review's on YouTube, its a close call between these two. However on this instance, Sony is cheaper and I kind of like those lights on Sony. Sound quality is almost similar but sony gives some options like live sound. Hope I have done it right, Best of luck with your purchase.

Not like you are buying some cheap portable speaker that sounds like a potato.
If i were you. If they wanted something. They can buy it themselves. With their own money.
