Why does it say 18W and 30W …

Is this no good for fast charging the latest iPhones ?

As per Apple website, min 30W USB-PD is required for fast charging iPhone 8 and later

    https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT208137

    • Why does it say 18W and 30W …

30W is the total output of the charger (18W USB-C PD or QC + 12W Standard Charge)

      • +1

        Aah !
So no good for fast charging iPhone X/XR/XS because they need 30W from the USB-PD alone !

        • +3

The one you're after is the BlitzWolf BW-S10 that does USB-C PD 30W. (Note, it only has a single USB-C Port)

          • +1

            @RichardL: Yeah, thats what I mean …
But what would be even better if it had a normal USB-A port as well ….

Buying a charger which charges only one phone at a time is a bit silly these days IMO.

Edit: Checked the Blitzwolf website, and they dont seem to have any such model which has dual USB ports, with one of them 30W USB-PD.

Looks like 18W USB-PD tested at the same fast charging rate so the 29W/30W official Apple adapters are probably overkill for iPhones.

iPhone X/XR/XS will take 18W max, only iPad Pro can take 30W, so you should be OK getting this one.

          • @Mostly Melbourne: Apple website has these specifications though

            https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT208137

            • +4

@51ngh: Yep, because Apple doesn't have an 18W charger yet (maybe release one this Tuesday, maybe not). Their chargers come in these levels:

              • 5W iPhone stock charger (USB-A 5V1A)
              • 12W iPad stock charger (USB-A 5V 2.4A Apple protocol)
              • 29W/30W charger (USB-C PD) for iPad Pro and new Macbook, downward compatible with iPhones
              • 61W, 87W USB-PD charger (USB-C PD) for Macbook Pro, downward compatible with iPad Pro and iPhones
            • +2

@51ngh: I think because they don't have a <29W adapter of their own. They just listed all of the Apple branded ones.
If you look at the articles that have tested 18W PD charging bricks, they've all been equal speed to the 29W and above.

              Here's another one.

            • +1

@51ngh: i cant find anywhere it says need "minimum 30W" to charge max

        • max can accept 30w input ???

  • Bought one. Thanks OP.

  • Reminder to set price to US.

What if I disagree with an US and THEM mentality?

    • What does this do? I've only just signed up with banggood.

      • +1

It's cheaper, do your own conversions to work it out.

  • yaaay finally.

    • Was gonna say it too.finally a pd charger! Let's see how these compares to my Mcdodo chargers.

  • +1

Rats, bought a couple of these last week for a few bucks more ($19.32).

Although by no means a bargain as such, if you are looking for usb-c pd chargers, I found the Xpower DCPD2 is one of the only ones with 2 usb-c pd ports (60w + 18w) and 2 usb-a (5V/2.4A). Handy for households with multiple usb-c phones / powerbanks etc.

    • got a link to buy these from?

      • I just bought one from eBay. Search DCPD2. BYO figure 8 IEC-C7 Power Cable.

        • oh … they're $79. a bit much

          • +1

@bogak: Yep didn't tell the wife about this one

    • +1

I've got an Xpower travel charger and the USB-C port does a great job on my Macbook pro. I got mine from eBay too.

My main USB-C charger at home is the Coosa PDS75. I don't even use the apple charger any more.

      • Looking for a good charger for my Macbook - the Apple USB-C Charger is not great. The Coosa looks nice … but sold out :-(

now i just need a C to lighting cable to charge my phone.

      Any deals on this?

  • I'm not used to seeing QC on USB-C, USB A. Are there phones/devices that come with QC on USB-C?

    • Samsung? I meant it's 2018, most QC 3.0 are on USB-C.

I'm more confused when the USB-C supports both QC and PD. To my knowledge brands like Anker never do this. Isn't there some soft of restrictions?

    • An interesting read from Benson L in 2015 Can Qualcomm QC and USB Type-C coexist on the same connector?

However, as USB-C standards evolve, USB-IF's PD3.0 introduces PPS which is aimed to be make all the proprietary fast charging protocols compatible including Huawei, Samsung, Qualcomm etc., there have been a few new chargers made that support this standard, e.g. AUKEY PA-Y12

      • I ordered one but honestly I couldn't find any mention of PD 3.0 on the page. Let's hope it doesn't blow up, I have Kogan USB-C PD bank to sacrifice.

  • Will this work for MBP 2018 and iPhone 7?

  • What about pixels? They need 3A, 5W. Doesn't appear to be in the pd specs

    • 3A is USB-C at its most basic and will charge at that for the Pixel fine.

    • Spec states PD/QC: 5V/3A 9V/2A 12V/1.5A (Max)
I have a Pixel 2 so the 5A/3A is the max it will handle if those specs are correct for the charger.
Only worry is that the feature section does not state 5V/3A so I'm slightly worried about that part.

      • Actually Pixel 2 takes 18W not 15W (5V/3A) like Pixel 1.

        • true that, apparently 9V/2A though i've never seen it that high.
          https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel2/comments/7jkmsw/pixel_…
          Let's hope it can really d 9V/2A

          • +1

@bogak: As with all fast charging voltage and ampere are adaptive. It will take more when you are lower on battery, by 50%-60% you might as well use a normal 5V/2.4A USB A charging. If you want to test should test when battery at 0%.

            • @Bigboomboom: I guess what I've noticed is that every other charger I've used is never as fast as the original Google charger. They get close but never as fast.

              • @bogak: I seems to get (without much test) same speed from my Anker Powerdrive II+ PD car charger as with my Google charger.

  • +2

Damn shame. I thought the usb-c was 30w. Would have replaced the laptop charger.

  • Work just got me a Samsung S9 yesterday. Will this charge the phone any faster than the standard charger it comes with?
A quick Google tells me this may be over kill for my needs but I'm not exactly an expert on fast chargers so appreciate any advice.

    • Samsung ship their phones with fast (QC) chargers. If you try it with the Samsung charged and compare it to a standard usb charger, the charging icon is usually different, and the settings/battery page will identify fast charging.

So this is really just the same as your Samsung charger, handy for traveling etc or a spare.

      • Cheers. Got a few blitzwolf chargers similar to this one but probably not as quick(paid a lot less)Will just keep using them for slow charging over night and that should work out fine for the moment.
Just need to pickup a decent quick car charger.

  • Oh… seems to come with an Au adapter. Is there a model with an Au plug?

    • It's just a bad translation. It definitely comes with AU plug
      (no adapter included)

  • -1

My blitzwolf cable doesn't work after 9 months and I have contacted Banggood customer service and they agree to make a refund to my PayPal. But I haven't received refund for week already. Normally it only took 2 business days with other sellers (Gearbest or Geekbuying) and I am worried now.

I send mail again to Banggood and Danica told me to wait patiently for a while. How long is for a while?

Rep, can you please advise what is going on?

Nintendo switch requires more than 30 for docked mode in case anyone wasn’t sure.
