Is this home assistant compatible with local lan access to control of IOT?

    • its alexa and google home compatible I'm sure the would be skills on each to allow IOT devices

      • +2

        https://www.home-assistant.io/

Yeah not really my cup of tea alexa or google home, I usually have all my smart devices on separated vlan with no internet access apart from initial setup. I still do use google home but it through my home assistant.

        • Whats good about home assistant?

          • +2

@1Kenobi: Not the OP, but I also use home assistant. There's lots of different features, but in short:
            - it's eco system agnostic, and integrates with heaps of products and services (e.g. I can control my lifx lights and Xiaomi lights through a single UI, and I can trigger my Xiaomi smart plug based on the BOM forecast)
            - it allows for far more granular control of automations
            - if you're into geeky details, the UI is highly customisable, including mapping your devices to a floor map.

It's also a massive time sink (in a good way), and a little clunky if you're not overly tech savvy. So it's not for everyone :)

          • +2

@1Kenobi: I have many mix smart devices at my house, Why would i use 3-5 different app to control it when I can control it using one interface. Also almost all of smart devices don't have actual internet connection and are separated VLANs and sometimes don't work so well for device that require internet connection, but yeelight and other smart devices work fine as it support LAN.

It also allow much more customisable automation and scene detection but does take more to learn. (For example, automation triggers can based on many factors such as if a person is home or not, for example vacuum will start when a certain person is out of house and between a certain time frame - because they don't want to hear the noise) It also can toggle away home automation if all home user are outside during night time with random variables.

One main reason is I can use a Ipad/Tablet as control interface with access to security cameras as well.

    • I just got one and it can be made to show up in home assistant using the Tuya component. You still need to register it through the Smart Life App and then you add the following to your configuration.yaml file (substituting in your registration details):

      tuya:
      username: phone or [email protected]
      password: accountpassword
      country_code: 61
      platform: 'smart_life'

I think it is still controlling it via the smart life server and not directly over the LAN so there may be a slight delay compared to local control. Hope it helps!

      • Hmmm thanks! Good to know. Deal is expired now so maybe next time.

  • Appears as can only order one pair at a time at the discounted price. Is this correct? Thanks

    • yes thats correct 1 or more at a time to receive $3 off

      • This is unnecessarily huge and expensive.

Let's just take a moment to appreciate this image.

    • Who turns their fridge on and off?
    • Ovens are generally hard wired and require a higher current connection.
    • Toasters and kettle generally require active power to be able to set the power button or lever to on. If you have a kettle that didn't need this, then ok, you can boil water from bed ready for a morning drink.
    • A toaster oven might work, but you'd have to leave food in it ready to be turned on. Again, you could preheat for breakfast.
    • Microwaves and washing machines can't be activated by simply turning on the power. They have start buttons.
    • And finally the vacuum. Why the hell would you ever need to remotely activate a vacuum??

I have two wifi power switches; one for a lamp and one for an electric blanket.

    • ahaha ok, there are ways to remotely turn on and off kettles and toasters .. this image just provides examples of what can be done with the technology not practically ;)

Just wondering if anyone knows of a smart switch (google home compatible), that accepts Australian 15A?

Every one i've come across is standard 10A. Reason I need a 15A is I have a commercial coffee machine that is 15A and would like it to be turned on remotely on a schedule so its not on all the time.

  • Showing as $21.99 for me

    • price updates at checkout

  • Rep, does this work with homebridge?

    • its alexa and google home compatible not home bridge compatible natively

  • Should really advertise these things as piece of mind with regards to appliances like irons.

  • “You can schedule the air conditioner”

    How?

    • +1

if your air conditioner has a plug you can schedule using this, (this is usually with older units)

      • Let me know of any A/Cs which will start up automatically once they're turned on, at the wall.

        • I'd imagine ones that work via a set dial (no remote) like this Kelvinator one https://www.airwaresales.com.au/product/1-6kw-cool-only-2/

I was actually going to avoid this aircon due to the lack of remote / IR as I wanted to be able to control it… but looks like I can now with this!

        • have a look on free standing aircons … pretty sure some of them do

        • +1

I've got an old Kelvinator that will do exactly this if you leave the dial on high or low instead of off. I've been looking at options to turn it on when I'm on the way home, but it's 15A, I've only found these style plus rated to 10A.

          • @ashanrath: Yeah that's why I'd be limited to a small unit, most of the 2.2kw and above (or old units) declare a minimum of 15A (though apparently based on reviews, most units under 4kw in size only draw about 8.5A max…)

  • Are the USB sockets controlled remotely as well?

    • +1

According to a review on Amazon. USB stay on 24/7

      • Then its surely not for me :(

  • Price is showing $21.99. Is it back to normal already?

    • Ordered one. Got $3.00 discount at checkout.

  • I have never heard about this brand before. Anyone has any review link that is not Amazon review (I tried googling it and can't find any)

    • I bought this, which is a slightly different model and also this, which is without the USB ports.

Both work great via the Smart Life app and also when linked to Google Home.

      • Are they certified for Australian use?

    • +1

I bought this last week for $32 to use with my coffee machine so it can be turned on/off on a schedule and remotely.

      https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07D4921DX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i…

I can confirm the setup is really easy and smartlife app is actually very intuitive. Google Home integration was flawless too so now I can command my coffee machine to turn on/off!

  • +1

I want to buy two of these ..is there any offer on two ?

  • Happy with sonoff plug that i bought under $12 last year. Working great for my garage door.

  • +1

    Hi there OP,

Can I just confirm if these comply with Australian Electrical Standards?

  • +1

Can anyone reccommend a smart socket that can be used with Apple HomeKit?

  • I assume you can only control when within your home network, not from outside the house?

    • +1

It works over the internet. So yes you can. I have the other smart plug from Topersun.

  • +1

A decent use case for these is to always have it plugged into a hair straightener and steam iron. Never have to worry again when you've left the house whether either of those are left on.
