  • can it be used as / converted to wireless bridge? :)

    • Sorry! I didnt quite understand your question. Do you want to use it as a wireless bridge coupled with another wireless router? You might want to try http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/tutorials/article.php/3639271 . It doesn't support bridge mode but it could be your primary router(as per the setup in the link).

EDIT : If you do use it as a primary router, you can get another router which support bridge mode and set that up as a secondary router. But as I said above, to the best of my knowledge(you can contact mynetfone) the locked firmware on it doesnt support bridge mode, hence it cannot be used as a secondary router for a bridge setup.

  • So it can operate as Access Point or am I missing smt here? Why is it so cheap? $19.90 include express postage? Too good too be true

  • How do they lock the router?? What does it do??

  • i think you have to get in 6 month contact with a minimun spend of $20 per month or something like that….so its basically not that cheap if you dont use the voip service from mynetphone

    • no. there's no minimum spend. you just need keep the minimum balance of $20 for 6 months. also, if you buy this unit via this link https://www.mynetfone.com.au/shop/order/device/228/ you can 1) get $20 credit instead of $10; 2) sign up much better voip plans, say whirlpool saver

    1. They are out of stock until end of April - BUT still supplying - sorta raincheck
    2. You can get this on the Whirlpool plan which is no monthly fee and you get $20 worth of credits for $20 purchase

    https://www.mynetfone.com.au/offers/whirlpool/netgear-page-3…

If you dont understand what the whirlpool deal is - which is the best way to sign up to MNF

    See

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/2960

Sajib - As for the 6 month contract it works this way. Its prepaid - if you make $1 worth of calls in a month, then you have to top up your account by $1 - this is done by an automatic charge to your credit card. After 6 months you can cancel the automatic update, then run down the $20 credit. I have cancelled my auto update and you can do this on line. So you can not use the service for 6 months then cancel the direct debit and use up the $20. But their service is good and the rates competitive. And this is a very cheap way to try it out. This does assume you signup for the Whirlpool plan as that has no monthly fee to eat up your credit.

If you already have a MNF account and another adapter you can transfer the account to this device, you will get the $20 credited to that account AND get the new box

Press711 - do you want to update post to the Whirlpool link which is a better deal?

    • It is a much better plan I am just worried coz there is no mention of $20 credit on that page

      • ?????? it says ….. on the link page I posted

Normally $129; special online price of ONLY $19.95* when you register a credit card for direct debit^
        BONUS CREDIT INCLUDED: $20.00 | COST: $19.95

which when you click on "buy now", it takes you to the page link you posted

        • done. thanks.

  • So to make this clear:

Pay $19.95 for the router inc delivery. Then once you have registered CC details, if you dont even use the service, what is the minimum you will have to pay?

Also, can it be used normally as a WIFI access point?

    Is there any other catches?

    • $19.95, but in 6 months time you can use this all up.

However thats the "backup" situation. You are best at least trying the service. I will make at least 95% of my calls via mynetfone, and thats obviously what they are banking on. But thats not really a catch its a benefit.

Living outside a capital city I could call that city using the Telstra community call rate of 25c untimed, but that meant being on the $30 a month plan. After using mynetfone for a year I found i was confident enough to drop to the Homeline basic at $20 a month and make all my capital city calls at 10c untimed

As for wireless access point - I dont know as i havent got my unit yet. On the web they say you can set up a point to point bridge with this unit, but this will be the "slave" unit not the master. Hope that helps ypu.
