Sooo…are these speakers or headlights or both

    • The brand is JW Speaker, these are LED lights.

  • +2

Wouldn't these get you a defect notice?

    • Sadly I believe so. Not ADR approved. Been keeping an eye on retrofits for a while and haven't come across any that are. Would love to be proven wrong!

      • They don't have to be ADR approved (this implies that you have to submit them for some form of testing, approval and certification. They have to comply with the ADRs. So in what aspects do these LED bulbs not comply with the relevant ADRs?

Edit: wait - got it now. Lumens exceed 2000 therefore headlight cleaning device and self levelling required?

  • Considering non cree certified leds, are "just leds" like any other, im voting no deal.

I can get same results for $50 from ebay.

  • These are not street legal.

    • +1

Negged until the site owner adds "not street legal" to their page

    • In what specific way?

edit: got it - Lumens exceed 2000 therefore headlight cleaning and self levelling required

      • +1

As far as I know, all retrofit are illegal. Where did you read about the 2000 Lumens?

In this case, the colour, being near blue, will undoubtedly also get you pulled over.

        • No, retrofits aren't illegal providing they are under 2000lm. If they are over you have to fit auto levelling and washers and have a defined beam cut off.

          Look in ADR46

Plenty of ex-factory, legal cars out there with 6000k lights. The ADR doesn't mention colour in a quantifiable scale - it just say blue & red lights are naughty.

          Also relevant
          ADR13
          ADR51
          ADR77
          ADR78
NB: L group vehicles (motorcycles) appear to be exempt from some of the ADRs.

Legal or not, I've run aftermarket HIDs in projector housings since 2010 (4000k 2010-2016; 6000k 2016-present) without any issues but my cut off is more defined than a filament bulb and they are adjusted properly. Given how crap the OEM halogen projectors are, it's a risk I'm happy to take.

          • @brad1-8tsi: Thanks, that's useful.
It can be quite confusing. Yes, it says up to 2,000 lumens, but I also read legislation (for WA I think) that they must be "white" (as you said, not quantifyable). Many bulbs, including 5,000K Phillips bulbs, are marked as not road legal.

I have looked into LED replacements because my car needs new Halogens every 10 months, but am worried about voiding my insurance if it is considered illegal. The Phillips Ultinon ones appear to be designed for reflector units, but when asking Phillips whether they are road legal they gave me the runaround ("Talk to Signify, who do our lighting products", who told me "talk to Lumiled, who do our automotive lighting").

Don't need anymore Hilux's with aftermarket HID conversion kits on the road.

    • They aren't HID. They are LEDs.

  • +4

Anyone who uses these in reflective housings needs to get kicked in the nuggets. The glare for oncoming traffic is outrageous!

    • +3

High beam them and toss a few stones as they approach

  • +1

Not street legal, not a bargain price and not much stock :/

    • -8

      RRP $199.00+

      • +2

Meanwhile, does not address the street legal aspect.

        Classy.

$150 to make my car no longer roadworthy? Hmmm nah.

Why the post to promote illegal mods anyway?

    • Cos $$$

FWIW these do not exceed 2000 lumen, they are 2000 lumen per bulb, total 4000 … given that these are some off brand chinese non-sense id be surprised if they even output that … any of these leds ive used have very narrow beams and often weird drop off (i admit i havent used these specific ones).

    might be useful in spotlights.
