Good ol JV, you've done it again!

Nuraphone gives me a sore tummy…

        • +4

Make sure you eat first @jv , Nuraphone on an empty stomach can lead to ulcers!

I read the last half in the JB voice over

  • I'm in. Looks like you have diversity well covered, but not tigers!

  • +5

Oh whoa, okay, this is a nice price for these (unless I'm misremembering). I think literally the only drawback of these that anyone's mentioned is that it uses a proprietary connector (charger?). Audio-wise these have gotten basically consensus rave reviews.

Edit: OP you might want to clarify that it's $399 (20% off $499), because I at first read it as 20% off (of) $399 (so $320 final price, with the $499 being the RRP).

    • +2

Yup, agree with all that. Speaking of charging, I've owned my pair for 3 months now and have charged them twice; that's even with regular use, a couple of hours a week - quite amazing!

Only downside is the earpieces, they hurt my ears after a while, so won't recommend if you're into music / gaming all day/night long - other headphones will be more comfy for that

Other than that, theyre probably the last headphones you'll buy, they sound just so good

      • +22

I do not think regular use is defined as "a couple of hours a week"…

        • Wow, you got 5 up votes for that?

Sure, everyones use is different. I get to listen to them in the evenings when the kids are asleep, so I guess that means they get used regularly. For me not to have to charge them very often is impressive, especially compared to other Bluetooth headphones I use like sol republic

          • +2

@Mr Mrrtn: Sony have been doing 30 hour battery life for years now.

      • +3

        quite amazing!

I'm not sure that 24 hours total use with two charges is amazing

    • Also agree with this. Got my pair some time ago before the big firmware update - I was already impressed pre update, but post update (which added noise cancelling and a host of other features) these are my go to commute/travel headphones. Can take a little getting used to putting them on due to the design (in-ear and over ear) and as mentioned can get uncomfortable if being used for extended sessions but other than that very happy with these.

      • +1

How does the NC compared to BOSE and Sony?

        • For me not quite as strong as bose but on par with sony hear ons which I also own

        • Agree with Uberwalrus, it's the best I've tried, but I've only tried a Bose QC15, the newer Bose are better I'm sure. I've also tried the Sony MDR-1000X (first gen), Sony WF-1000X and Sennheiser Momentum Wireless. I think because of the in ear and over ear design of the Nuraphones, it passively does half the job anyway. The active cancellation is good, and there's a mode that you can assign to one of the touch sensitive buttons to let ambient noise in also.

If you're in Melbourne, Nuraphone have a pop-up store in Melbourne Central for you to try it out. Just opposite Gong Cha upstairs.

    • Rep, how long will this pop up be there for? Keen to give them a try.

      • Me too

        • End of year hopefully

          • @nuraHQ: Tried them (2 pairs actually), wouldn't seal properly on my ears and (possibly as a result) the sound profile generated sounded really average to me. Disappointed as I love the idea.

  • +1

Great sound but caused me a lot of pain after an hour of wear - had to return so beware!

    • +3

We have solutions to that. Email our customer support if your nuraphone didn't include the new ear tips.

      • Ear tips like comply foam, or a plastic?

        • Silicon.

          • +10

@nuraHQ: Ouch! No wonder people's ears are hurting. You should try using a softer material… like silicone. ;)

            • +2

@eug: Ahhh busted I was in a rush

      • I got mine as part of the Kickstarter, how can I get these new ear tips?

        • email them and they'll send it out

      • Can you buy replacement ear pads yet?

      • I friggen love you!

I got free eartip and bought an analogue cable while at it, all comfort and fatigue problems all gone!!!!

It's a perfect fit too during the initial setup phase, didn't have to adjust my fit anymore.

I'm using the medium eartip and it's way way more comfortable than the default large one, it can vibrate more freely now.

Sounds great with my LG V30 QUAD DAC :)
Damn I've tried pulling out the cable and ran wireless a few times… Can't anymore :(
It turns into a different beast with analogue.

    • I had to take painkillers on day one. But mine came with smaller tips so when i got home i switched them out and I haven't had an issue with discomfort in the months since

      • Thanks for the feedback!

    • Just take neurofen for the pain

      • +2

Apparently the combo of Panadol and Nuraphone works great.

  • Thanks OP, been waiting on a deal for these for a while now.
Had to grab a pair myself

    • Email us any time during shipping or calibration. We have a local support team :)

Finally bought a pair of these things … I need to get rid of some headphones, currently have AKG 712 Pro for home, Sennheiser CX Sport for workouts, Monoprice DJ Headphones for Switch, now another pair.

OP: the Nuraphones are basically unsuitable for workouts right? (I see that they're sweat resistant but I mean consistent exposure to moisture like working out everyday).

    • I have a pair. Love them but they're much too heavy for a workout

    • Can you compare them with 712's?

  • Perfect for the NipAlert app.

  • So how are these VS the Sony WH-1000XM3's as those have also gotten rave reviews/best headphones out tag at the moment?

Would be great to have a comparison between the two, especially as the Sony's are a bit cheaper atm

    • These calibrate the sound using sonar to identify the channel characteristics of your ear. They then change the sound to match your hearing. Reviews rave about the sound quality. This is a truly novel idea.

How good the active noise cancellation is is hard to tell, as they also have an in-ear component, which will provide extra passive noise attenuation. They do not provide any numbers or graphs to compare with the Sony or Bose. If they wont show any numbers then they probably don't have as good sound isolation and don't want to publish it to be compared with Sony or Bose.

Another issue is the self-noise (hiss) the ANC produces.

    From the amazon reviews:

"Putting on the nuraphone feels a bit like mounting Mr Garrisons Monowheel bicycle but the ear penetration is quickly forgotten once in place."

    • I forgot I posted that!

  • Damnit, I just bought the Sony WH-1000M3

  • +1

My boss has a pair and I have to say, they are pretty nice. Since you have in the ear and over the ear, the bass is isolated from the mids and highs. I think the "its a prescription for your ears" is a bit of a gimmick but does seem to do something. Probably about as much as someone who knows their way around an equaliser could do. Perhaps the best Kickstart project to net a product and even better that it is out of Aus. The kids Carlton Connect Initiative have winner on their hands.

  • 399 still at bit too excy aye. 299 would be awesome!

  • Been looking at these for a while. Waiting super patiently to (hopefully) nab one off Spotify.

    • +2

How do you get headphones from Spotify?

      • If you're a student you can enter a competition to win one.

        • Any more info on this? Tried googling but only led back to this thread

  • No reason to not go through referral link if it's the same 20% off? Gets something to the referrer

    • +2

      This is free shipping :)

  • So this deal ends tomorrow night?

    • Or a referral code gets you the same price anytime, not sure you can combine the two but if not then no rush.

      • Thanks. Combining not poss.

        • In that case the referral method is better value as it gives back.

        • This includes free shipping :)

    • Tomorrow midday.

  • The lightning cable costs $49.95? Seriously?

    https://www.amazon.com.au/nura-Lightning-Accessory-Nuraphone…

  • What's the mic like for calls? I know it's not the main focus, but reviews don't look great for that.

My phone mic has gone wonky recently so I use a headset for calls alot and if the quality of the microphone isn't great, this may not be for me, even though I want it.

    • We released a firmware update a couple months back that addressed this issue. There is another comment below saying he uses it for calls every day.

  • +3

I have had these since Amazon Prime day. I use them up to 5 days a week for 8 hours per day.

I have sennheiser pxc550, audio technica m50x (which is my best pick <$200) and many more headphones.

These are my favourite by far. Yes the tips were a little uncomfortable at first, but you get used to them. They also will send you a smaller softer set for free if you email them, and I find them a lot more comfortable.

If you've never tried tailored audio before, you're in for a treat! You hear music how it's meant to sound!

The social mode is awesome, and the microphone is decent enough to make calls (I make like 20-30 per day).

Suppoet this Australian company and treat yourself with some quality audio.

Happy to answer any questions if you have any :)

  • Damnit, really tempted but have a good portable setup with a mojo chord and noble kaiser 10.
    But personalised audio…

    • If you have a good setup you could get the Aumeo to add the tailored audio?

      • Hmmm looks very interesting and not to exx. But would mean I have to drop the portable DAC. Will look into this, thanks

    • +1

thats my concerns too, if you compare with hifi headphones, i m not so confident if they still would be outstanding…
      Plus 399 still not cheap,
Amazon was selling for 375 few month back.

  • Discount not also applicable on accessories?

    • +1

Agreed, may be the have plenty old stock need to be cleared before nurofen plus 2.0 released, still usb A charging while sony is usb C, I just bought it earlier this week

      • +1

The proprietary cable irks me, silly choice in this day and age. Reminds me of Sony with their memory stick.

        • +1

Yes I'm holding back from getting a pair until this gets changed. Hopefully in a future model.

    • I brought a pair of Audio technica MSR7NC's and only used them for a few weeks before getting a pair of Nuraphones and since getting the nura's i have not touched the Audio technicas or any of my other over ear headphones for that fact these feel and sound like a $500 pair of headphones if not more and are hard to compare to regular headphones as the sound they produce is more like a good quality speaker setup with clear vocals while still maintaining deep bass. If you get a chance to try a pair out it's definitely worth it

    • Yes you can get really good cans… these! What makes you think these aren't really great?

        • If I'm using IEM, I get less bulk, more portability and great long lasting isolation with comply tips.

But you might not get the same sound. I have a really expensive pair of IEMs but prefer the sound of the ATH-M50X when connected to a specific amp/dac combo. The lows just don't sound as smooth. Maybe it's the difference between tiny BA drivers vs a 45mm voice coil driver.

Dunno how these sound, but lots of people say they sound better than all their other headphones, so …

            • @Musique34:

I feel like you could have a great time if you have big ears and like to listen to pop music and like to spend money.

Without having tried these I really can't say how good or bad they are, but based on all the other headphones and IEMs I've tried vs the reviews I've read about them, I've come to the very obvious conclusion that… sound is very subjective.

After reading soooo many positive comments on different headphones, I bought them and got disappointed. What sounds fantastic to some people might not suit my preferences.

Perfect for yuppie Richmond dweller that dreamed of wearing Beats Headphones through high school and now that they are older and can afford them but don't want to seem lame, they can buy this new revolutionary EQ mapper and support local business.

You could say the same about any headphone really. $399 isn't a big amount in the headphone/IEM world. It's cheaper than the IE80 and has far more technology built in - it makes the IE80s look like an overpriced earphone that only yuppie Richmond dwellers would pay for. ;)

                • @Musique34:

As an ozbargainer, I got my IE80 for $300 which is way cheaper than nuraphone,

$399 for wireless Bluetooth noise-cancelling headphones with auto-customizing EQ, vs $300 for wired earphones with no electronics built in… pretty sure one of them has a much larger markup than the other.

I have also tried the equivalent SHURE SE535 which is also fantastic at a similar price point.

I wasn't particularly impressed by the SE535 honestly.

but as a product it's not a great bargain.

As I mentioned earlier, sound is subjective. You didn't like the sound so to you, it isn't a great bargain which is fair enough. But clearly lots of people really like the sound of these, so putting subjective sound preferences aside, if we compared your zero-electronics single-dynamic-driver IE80 to the wireless Bluetooth noise-cancelling self-EQing Nuraphone, your earphones definitely don't look like a great bargain.

I hope Nuraphone improves their design and fixes some of the common issues found after a quick google and confirmed upon trying them.

Beware of confirmation bias. If you googled an issue online, you will find people complaining about it.
e.g. if you search for IE80 muffled, you'll find lots of people complaining that their IE80 sounds muffled. Or uncomfortable.

  • Is there a newer version coming out?

    • No but there may be future firmware updates.

      • Alright, I'll bite.

Anyone want to buy a pair of Sony WH-1003XM3 :D

  • Missed it! OP, hopefully you'll run this again after your Sydney tour. Even though you offer 30-day satisfaction guarantee returns, keen to try on before to save on potentially wasting products (save the planet and all that!).

  • Damn just missed out on this.
