Garmin Forerunner 935 $399 Delivered (Was $699) @ rebel

290

Just saw the price drop on the Garmin Forerunner 935.

One of the best fitness watches from Garmin. A lighter, sportier version of the Fenix 5 range.

I think it's the lowest it's ever been.

I wish I liked Garmin's software. I had a Vivoactive HR for ages and I loved the device and the ability to pair it to a HRM, but their software was just no intuitive.
Switched to an Ionic, and Fitbit's software is a lot better. Not perfect, I still think the MS Band was the best, but this is better than Garmin IMO.

    • You can't store music on this can you?

      • Why you wanna store music on a watch?

        • +8

so you can run and listen to music without having to carry a phone.

@boomramada: I don't like running with the phone in my shorts so i have it on a arm-band. that can be annoying especially with big phones today.

            • +3

@boomramada: If that's what someone wants to do why should it concern you?

@shbshb: I'm just wondering the benefit of it, why I can't ask questions?
@aldudeau got the fair point, but or me, watch without internet is not a smart watch. Just a watch, activity tracker and mp3 player.

                • @boomramada: i think the fact that it's not a smartwatch is the appeal to me. don't need notifications or all that jazz, just some good start for exercise in something bigger than a wristband. :)

@aldudeau: And for me smart bits are important than activity tracking, I know my activities, nothing there to track ;)

          • @aldudeau: An option if you have Spotify Premium is the Mighty (https://bemighty.com/products/mighty) which run to about $120-130 delivered to Australia. It's about the size of the 6th gen iPod Nano with a clip on the back, you pre-load Spotify playlists to it. Perfect for running as it weighs next to nothing.

        • So I don't have to carry my phone when I go for a jog or to the gym

Not that I'm aware of, no.

You can always get the Sony Walkman earphones that have a built-in MP3 player. Bonus is they're also waterproof so you can swim with them. I used to use them a while back paired with my MS Band.

    • Does fibit sync with strava? Last I checked they don't.

  • Great price for one of Garmin's best watches for running and triathlon/multisport

  • I'm really torn right now. I like the look and software of the new Samsung Galaxy watch - but the step counting and general fitness stuff seems really lacking. I like the Fitbit Versa look and software for health - but would rather more of an Android OS on the watch - plus no GPS and a huge bezle (and the Fitbit with GPS watch presents poorly). Garmin is good with its battery and GPS and steps - but is limited in every other way :/
I have an old fitbit surge so I'm kind of in the Fitbit eco system already.

    • Have you considered the new Polar Vantage M? as it's the same price as the 935?
      https://www.polar.com/au-en/vantage/m

      • that looks cool.

    • From my experience; the galaxy watch is great for smart phone features, but missing many apps (eg strava).

      Battery life is solid.

Steps are meant to be inaccurate (tbh I wouldnt know personally, as its not something I track rigorously)

Heart rate monitor is meant to be inaccurate, but additionally to this, often once you are sweaty it struggles to read your HR.

With this said, it is fine for me. As I want the smart watch function, music, and gps tracking for runs. I am very happy with it, but people who track more aggressively may be disappointed.

    • HRM is terrible for me with the Galaxy Watch. I got it for 50% smart watch, 50% fitness tracker, but I can't even get a Heart Rate reading when I exercise, anything more than a light walk and it stops tracking. It's all over samsung's forum. I've taken it to their service centre but I doubt they can do much.

been reading up on the fenix and I regret buying the Galaxy Watch. Even my Gear Fit2Pro is better at HR tracking.

  • Bought one from there last week, price matched to DickSmith for $599. Happy to say they refunded the difference this morning with no probs!

  • how is the screen size, is it too small ?

    • That's pretty subjective. I had a 910xt prior and the same 4 field layout is on the 935 although best done with a 1-2-1 from top to bottom. Naturally the round shape isn't as useful for that kind of boxed layout as the square ones, but for the watch faces etc.. it looks just the right size too me. The display doesn't go to the edge of the glass though, so be aware of that if looking at one that isn't turned on. I would say the only problem I have had is the screen is hard to see in medium to low light conditions, so don't expect it to be as bright as the picture above most of time.

  • Just got the heavier Fenix 5 a month ago when I really wanted this. Should have been patient.

  • Thanks OP, I have been looking at this watch for months now and almost pulled the trigger on it early this week when Dick Smith had it on sale for $529. Picked it up last night. Thanks again OP great work.

    • Are you glad you got it? I have a 235 currently & wondering if I should also pull the trigger even though I'd only use a quarter of the features I'm guessing. Do my Parkrun every week & a couple of runs during the week too but also wondering about the golf activity & what it can do

  • Just sold my Fenix 5 for what I paid for it and switched to the 935, the weight difference is really noticeable.

I see the Fenix 5 is reduced again at JB HI FI, but $499 instead of $399.
