  • And no restrictions on current subscribers!

  • Good deal. Just running out of the last of the Porter St blend I got free with my Breville machine. Wouldn't pay full price but at this rate it's very good.

    • What would you be getting normally then?

      • I'd go to local roasters or Manna beans if they had a special.

  • I'm having trouble deciding which one to get. I'm using a drip filter. The last batch I'm still working through is Bay Beans Forte blend and I find it kinda ashy.

The At Work 1kg seems much better value. Cheaper than the three or so other roasteries I've looked at.

Trailblazer is pretty good if you like your coffee a bit more acidic/fruity

      • The more expensive one :) Thanks I'll give it a go.

      • +1 for trailblazer blend, very tasty!

      • +1 very nice I prefer this than Porter house.

What’s with all these boutique roasters thinking their coffee should taste like an ashtray? Or maybe I’d like the blend that tastes sour? At this point I’m back to supermarket beans as they’re generally smoother and consistent and, if you buy carefully, just as fresh.

Yeah to be honest, the Lazzio (I think - black bag) dark roast at Aldi is pretty good. Blend of both arabica and robusta and doesn't taste like ashtray. Considerably cheaper too.

        • I guess when people think of supermarket beans they think of something that has spent the last 12 months in warehouses and on a boat ride from Italy. The advantage of Aldi is it is roasted in Melbourne and with their very lean supply chain it’s on the shelf within a day or two. Similar logic applies to Harris as well as local beans in each city. I know in Adelaide there are several brands of local beans on sale at woolworths. Some stores have terrible stock management but you can easily decode the use by dates.

      • I like supermarket beans, I just think boutique places can offer a unique taste which is a nice way to switch things up at home. Not saying that boutique places aren't immune from being shit, because I've definitely had shit ones/poor batches

Haven’t tried this brand, but I have been a regular with Sweet Yarra coffee which posts the occasional bargain here.

They offer 2kgs for $59 delivered - and I am very happy with the Indian Malabar beans. They also do a subscription service but at higher cost.

Either way - I can’t agree with JVs tattered socks about supermarket beans. With this deal or Sweet Yarra I can get beans that have been roasted in the past week or so. Most supermarket beans are months old (or a year) and don’t show the roasting date. If you have a good coffee machine, the difference is very obvious in look and taste.

But it’s all in the taste and if supermarket beans are your thing, go for it. I have a relative who prefers International Roast - black!

    • A week or so is too old once they’re sitting in the cupboard/hopper for another week or two.

I haven’t tried these beans and am considering trying them to be honest.

My problem is with almost all “start up” roasters who somehow decided that darker = better, then listen to their polite friends who describe the overcooked burned ash taste as so “fresh” and “complex”.

  • Anyone know if this stacks with the last 50% voucher or overrides it?
