Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy it at a JB outside of the airport ($399) and claim the TRS?

    • +1

      Just a few dollars difference.

    • By $4.27, yes I suppose

      • not really, massive $50 difference. check my post above.

        • Well I was comparing it with the $399 price quoted in the parent post, but sure.

and then there's having to line up in TRS…

OMG….. the pain of waiting… seeing others with their bags of goods, handbags, UGG boots….. not understanding English and joining the wrong line…

bugger - gotta do that on Sunday morning :(

I use the trs app. Done this a few times and the queue was virtually non existent. Meanwhile the queue for those that didn't use the app was out the door of the trs desk.

I didn’t even know that was a thing. Thanks, you’ve saved me a ton of time!

          App Store Google Play

        • I once used the trs app, and the line was longer for the trs app then it was for the normal line. This was Melbourne.

Best part about using the app, is you can pick and choose which line to go to (the one that is shorter)

          • @eltito: Sydney airport gives priority to passengers with QR code.
During peak time 3-4 TRS officers could be serving passengers with TRS app/QR code whilst only 1 officer serving others.

From my past experience TRS app was still quicker with a queue 5 times longer. Also passengers without TRS app are likely to have no clue about the claim procedure, potentially a very long wait.

TRS is really intended for goods going overseas only. So generally tourists, thus it is normal for users to be not fluent in English/doesn’t really know English.

Be thankful that AU residents are even allowed to take advantage of it.

        • .. and not pay the gst once is back to the country haha

So these are refurbished, used, and demo stock?

    • +1

These are new stock! Nothing wrong with them!

So why would i pay $367 duty free. When i can buy $376.20 at addicted to audio and still claim trs on it.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/408661

Thats a further 30 odd dollars off.

A good option for the people coming back to Australia.

    • You can still bring it back in if it's valued under $900 and not pay back the GST.

I have a separate question for TRS experts: The item has to be $300 and above. I am buying an item that's priced at $299.99. Am I still eligible for TRS?

      • +1

I think.you answered the question your self.

Just buy another cheap item from the same vendor. It doesn’t all have to be on the one receipt. As long as you’ve bought $300 or more from the same vendor you’re gold.

        • I thought they'd use common sense and recognize that retailers always drop the price by 1c or 5c in order to make the price look smaller and just make an exception. There's nothing else they sell that's cheap that I want.

            @lostn: you thought wrong.
it's no, no matter how you want to look at it

          • @lostn: Their computer system won’t let you and TRS officers can’t do much about it.

Perhaps ask vendor to charge you $300 instead. Just make sure that your receipt shows $300 or more.

Can you price match Sony online store $349?

  • +2

How about $399 at Sony store with bonus hey you voucher

    https://store.sony.com.au/heyyou?src=heyyou&utm_campaign=Hey…

Gets you $50 vocuher for coffee and lunch from popular cafes

That's good value if you anyways drink ton of caffeine, claim GST refund in case traveling.

Potential Saving of $36 in GST + $17 roughly in tax paid to earn 50 + $50 in coffee/ lunch .

FYI if anyone has a corporate jb discount (jbhifi solutions) through their company, they are 347.89 on there

    • Can you purchase items with jbhifi gift cards?

      • I don't think so unfortunately

  • Gift cards are not acceptable on the corporate website.
