  • Not sure the point of the gift card when the cover includes optical, aka, glasses…

Glasses can be expensive, they might cover $150 or $200 per year.

    • Because sunglasses and normal glasses are handy and won't be 100% subsidised by them.

  • what's the cheapest policy they'll let you on to still get this voucher, anyone know?

Wow, this will be great to offset the 12% increase they are predicting for their 2019 price rises for this type of plan.

Id much rather be able to have a government run health cover which contributes to the greater good of the people but gives me priority when I need it - my almost 4k per year is going to their profit margins, not to the long term benefit of the health system.

That's not true, as easy as it seems to believe. The reason why the government provides medicare rebates for people who get private health insurance is so that the government can use your taxpayer money to fund other initiatives. While I understand that corporates can be greedy, they're essentially providing the same service as the government, but allowing the government to spend taxpayer money elsewhere (eg roads, parks, education, etc).

If you're so against it, then why buy health insurance in the first place? Why not remain on the Govt scheme?
