  and we'll not sure if we need 100hz we had it on the old one CRT.

  but I think flat panels are different.

  40inch plus will be good.

  had a 76cm CRT panasonic with widescreen and 100z.

  100hz it looked brilliant.

  Tv is a must for our house

  We like the Panasonic Brand

  Definiety want 37" up.

  If OP liked the picture/colour that the CRT gave, then stick with the plasma. Of the current bunch, plasma is the closest equivalent picture-wise to the CRTs - LCDs/LEDs are downgrades in picture quality.

  You might be able to pick it up for around $700.

  It's not their most advanced panel (that's in the V20A and the VT series) but it's a good TV for the price.

  I purchased a 50" LG Plasma 600Hz for $700 from Harvey Norman Factory Outlet in Auburn, Sydney (not sure where you are located).
  You can pick a Samsung up with the same specs (a little thicker at the back) for about the same price from Harvey Norman - or you could about 2 weeks ago.
  JB HI-FI are having a 10% off sale this weekend as well I've read.

  bought the u series $696 plasma. $80+ with additional 4 year warranty.
