Target has a 42" LCD full HD with 100hz, it's Rank Arena, for 799, I think for a cheap/no brand tv, that might be a better deal.

    • Sanyo is a better big brand in Japan.

      • +1

Sanyo in Australia is not equal to Sanyo in Japan. I don't know when, but for most CE in Australia the name was bought from Sanyo and all TVs are Chinese units rebadged.

        • I don't think so.

If you go to Sanyo.com it can still link you to Sanyo Australia.

          http://ap.sanyo.com/contact/index.html#Australia

But cannot see this model on sanyo.com but on sanyo.com.au.

          Very strange.

        • From the Sanyo Australia website http://www.sanyo.com.au/about/sanyo
SANYO Electric Co. Ltd is a Japanese manufacturer

It's still possible that Sanyo licensed their name to a third party consumer electronics company (affiliate) to sell in Australia but I don't see any evidence of that.

Agreed, id buy this over the rank arena
        nice deal

  • I'm in the market for a good but cheapo/no brand lcd tv…preferably around this size. Will shop around on Thursday late night shopping…good point brought up by ranma. Is this one 100hz as well?

I'm thinking of getting a Kogan.
      http://www.cnet.com.au/kogan-42-inch-1080p-lcd-tv_buy-339293…

Ok for what I want. Get it off their ebay store (cheaper) if you are considering it. They have 40" as well.

      • +4

I wouldn't get a Kogan. I went down that path a few months ago (22inch) and it was really cheaply made with pointless features such as toilet/cave sound modes but missing the useful basic stuff. The menu and OSD is pretty rubbish as well. Also had one red pixel which they wouldn't exchange as per their policy so at the end I just returned it and wore the postage costs. Ended up getting a Viera instead which was cheaper and much better. Kogan never again.

    Sanyo in Australia is "Sanyo".
They may be made in china but so are most Panasonic TVs and they are reknown for quality.
For a solid quality unit you would be going hard to beat Sanyo.
    Top post Mehow !!!

That Target one is junk, real junk.

so which is better guys 'Sanyo' or 'Kogan'?

sanyo its for people in the know! sanyo!!

Good thing is big W accept Amex and you also earn everyday rewards points for this, giving you another percentage or three off on top as well.

  • Sanyo is still a shit brand aint it? I bought a Hisense 42" 1080p lcd tv….and it was complete crap. Comparing to our 50" Panasonic plasma, you would spit on the hisense. Can anybody comment on the quality of this Sanyo? Looking for a LCD for the xbox and PC..

    • +1

If really from Sanyo Japan it is a lot better than Hisense or Kogan.

    • Hisense is some Chinese brand (just looked up then), so what do you expect. Sanyo is a Japanese company and is now a subsidiary of Panasonic. Whether it's a rebadge, I don't know, but I'm certain the quality would be better than Hisense or Kogan, even if it is still made in China.

  • I might be going today to buy its smaller brother..

    http://www.bigw.com.au/electronics/televisions/LCDTV/bpnBIGW…

and probably from DSE as they will price match it hopefully (both Woolies)

  • What's the refresh rate?

  • Seems this is 60Hz - Can this provide 'true' HD resolution?

    • yes, 60hz is fine for blu ray, 1080p etc, 100hz is all a bit of marketing gimmick really.

  • This let me down…

Sanyo is a much better brand compared to those "Hisense" and "Kogan".

    • how about VIVO?

      • VIVO is an inhouse brand of Dick Smith. I'd say the Sanyo is better than that

look at this if you are looking for something smaller

better energy rating and won an award recently as well.. seems to have good review on every website.. DSE / BigW and others..

  • not bad… +

  • +1

went to BigW its not a bad TV but it only has 1 yr warranty and there is no extended warranty available..

  • I am half tempted to get one of these tonight just to plug my PS3 into hmmmmm

    • I wouldn't bother. The 6.5ms refresh rate on these is horrible for gaming or watching sports.

      • Went and had a look tonight and I must say the picture quality was equal to the Samsung next to it. But I did read somewhere that the screen smoothness wasnt great for gaming so I passed on it. Great TV for someone wanting a cheap TV that doesnt watch mainly sports

  • Good deal, but I bought a 40" 1080p lcd for $598 from JB Hifi a couple weeks ago

    • Sounds better. What brand/model no. was that?

      • damn.. just found out its 37" when I looked for the model number. senzu ld3700

  • .

  • does this tv have built in blu ray?? i thought i read that in the catalogue..

    • If it did it'd be at least $200 more. But you sure can hook your BD player to it via the HDMI ports
