Incredible price for a FURminator large, long hair. I shopped for one last month and the cheapest I found was an ebay "backyard seller" offering it for $40 + $10 shipping.
Knockoffs are available on ebay for $10+ and may be ok but the quality does not look up to par.
Amazon Prime is required for free shipping.
Shopback and Cashrewards(currently) offer 6% back at Amazon AU.
This is listed as a new seller, and there is no indication for how long the price will last. I have one due for delivery tomorrow.

A comb is also a must for proper grooming of dogs with an undercoat. I bought one from ebay recently and this Amazon AU product is 40 cents cheaper.

I know i'm going to be Negged for saying this, but as a professional groomer.. DO NOT USE THESE.

It cuts the hair, and will make your dog actually grow back fluffier (Golden / Lab / Husky / / / etc) use a Rake / comb / slicker only for longer hair dogs, and rubber brush for short hair.

    • Hey keen to hear your side ive been using this for the last 6 months and it has worked really well. Do you have any videos or reading material so i can educate myself? Cheers

Furminator uses an old style of what is called Carding, basically a 40blade at an angle, you have to have it positioned correctly or you cut too much hair, with the handle on this, you do not have the correct angle so you end up actually Cutting the guard coat and under coat, producing a longer much thicker coat in the end because the dog's coat thinks it doesn't have enough protection.

Short term, it looks nice, I give it that, but if used over 1-2 years, your dog's coat will end up ruined, and overly fluffy.

        • Do you have a recommendation for what should be used at home that is as effective as this? i also have a "FURminator Soft Grooming Slicker Brush, Dogs, Small or Large" (google for an image) but it just doesnt de-shed like the other tool

        • @lamodeez
I don't get any noticeable under coat at all with our german shepherds, and the top coat is always full length.
Edit: thinking about it, there probably is some fluff, but I would have already removed most of the loose/matted undercoat with a comb before hand. But the topcoat definitely shows no sign of cutting.

    • If it was actually cutting the hair you would not expect hair to be protruding from the front of the comb after a stroke. Years ago my fear was that it was pulling hair that was not properly loose. I am not sure that any pulling actually happens. If you keep using it, it will continue to get hair, but after any conventional brushing of a dog like a German Shepherd, even rubbing your hand over the fur will reveal more loose hair. I suspect you could over do it(but again it doesn't actually seem to pluck the hair), and I use it as a finishing after the other grooming and only do several passes. Having German Shepherds they are just going to keep revealing hair no matter what method you use, and endless passes get pointless.

Do you have any microscope references to show that any hair is being cut?

You can see it, it both pulls from the root, and cuts (hair has burnt looking end).

If you compare a proper undercoat rake and this. You can visually see the difference in what it pulls out.

You're better off flat combing with a 2 dollar stainless steel comb (18cm) from eBay.

Flat comb is as it sounds, lay the comb flat and move along with the hair growth. If you hit a snag, stop, take a slicker bush, part the hair above where it snagged then line brush.

Repeat until dog is able to completely comb through.

    • Thankyou!!! Agree with everything you have said - these combs are horrendous! I’m involved with a double coated breed and the amount of people who recommend these is insane. A good undercoat take and a slicker brush is all you really need.

    • This guy grooms.

      • hey I'm a groom and this brush didn't help make anything FURminator…

    • As a matter of interest what do you recommend for getting knots out of fur. Should we use the blunt scissors or is there a better method. Thanks.

Look at a dematting tool, Its basically blades so be extremely careful if it is close to skin, a good sturdy comb, and slicker brush..

There is many many tools that actually do the job, this one is a quick solution that actually causes more harm than good.

If it matted to the skin, seek the help of a professional.

    • Was told the exact same thing by our groomer. We had a furminator but switched to a slicker. It’s a lot easier to brush with and it doesn’t seem to bother our fluff monster as much

    • I use one on my Husky and unfortunately I haven't noticed her getting fluffy.. it doesn't cut the top coat either? But after reading what you said I'm not sure if I should continue to use it or not

      • Apologies, I should have said thicker, not fluffier.

It ends up sending the wrong signal to the coat, I have seen people use them on Golden retrievers, and a few other breeds, and it is about the same as clipping one, completely ruins their coat and it is almost unrepairable.

There is a right way to use this tool, but it is only for one part of the animal, and very small use, the Hock/front of legs and at a 45 degree angle.

Slicker brush, undercoat rake, comb, rubber brush(Kong). Technique called line brushing.

Please do not use this tool, talk to a good groomer, because if they recommend this, they are not knowledgeable.

  • any idea as to where it is actually made?
I know the company is based in the US, but a quick boy look on the website and I could not find this info

  • Good price if it's genuine Furminator! They retail for double the price, good bargain.
The combs are sold by an Auto part company though.."GUANGZHOU ONST AUTOPARTS INDUSTRIES LIMITED"

  • Anyone able to find a Large 'Short' haired version. Need it sooooo bad for my Labrador atm.

  • Some more sizes can be found here with similar pricing: https://www.clipperworld.com.au/CLEARANCE-SALE/FURminator/FU…

  • I have both the Furminator and the Zenify Glove. The glove is far superior at a much cheaper price.

  • We use one of these, the cat seems to be pretty good with it. We got ours from catch of the day.

Item arrived and appears to be counterfeit. Amazon appear to have become aware and the seller had been removed before my contact and they had the genuine item added as an actual Amazon sold product.

It was cosmetically pretty much identical apart from the corners of the comb being ever so slightly rounded differently. Packaging had a hologram and included a comb cover which I did not get with the one I bought last month. The comb was loose, spring weaker, and the FURminator branding on the comb itself was not perfect. There was also tooling marks near the this branding on the comb. Until others can verify I suppose there is a chance I received a defective item. I might weigh them to see if there is any difference, but that to could I suppose be a revision issue etc.

Contacted chat and they offered to refund and a $35 credit to cover the difference in price to purchase a genuine item direct from Amazon AU. Contact recommended anyone else who purchase ask for the same. He initially mentioned returning the item, but halfway through the chat he received an update from the "concerned team" and told me not to worry about the return and had credited my account.

Crap that it happened but they seem to have dealt with the issue appropriately.

I also filled out a "Stop the Fakes" form on the FURminator USA site.
