Tefal Avanti Kettle - $35 (RRP $150) @ Spotlight

910

Bought a new kettle for work as it died, went into Spotlight in South Melbourne that had this out for $50 but scanned at $35. Pretty good deal considering its $110 at Amazon!

Gets good reviews, sure it's just a kettle but I love me a good bargain!

A couple of other bargains -
    Tefal Avanti toaster - $35 (Amazon $129.95)
    Tefal egg & toast - $35 (Amazon $77)

    • Thanks. Got the egg & toast.

Thanks, I'll make sure to time travel to be able to get those prices.

ML11 - Thanks for the info, good to know it's historic price. It puts current deal into perspective. Don't know why you got voted down for providing relevant information.

      • +3

He got downvoted because he negged a deal over prices that are no longer available.

The downvotes were because of the neg and not the comment itself.

I won't buy Tefal again. Had our Optigrill die a couple of months out of warranty with no help from the manufacturer or the Goodguys.

    • +5

How long was the warranty period? If the thing died much sooner than you reasonably expected it to, warranty or not, you have a case for a refund/replacement/repair under Australian consumer law.

    • I agree with asubtleviolence, if the grill should have reasonably lasted longer I would contact the ACCC.

      • +2

I agree with both the above - the good guys do this all the time - and tefal are useless within warranty let alone days out. I prefer to look elsewhere for pans as a result and avoid game over as much as I can but hey Australia's love of monopoly has crippled consumers.

    • Sometimes you have to get really firm with GG for them to help you. I had them claiming that an expensive iron whose handle got burning hot when used wasn't "unsafe". I forced the CS to go his manager until he'd back down.

I bought this kettle and the toaster chibot mentioned above a few months ago from Amazon and would recommend both.

If you have a Xiaomi wifi plug, use it with the kettle and you can turn it on while still in bed in the morning!

    • +1

How does that work? Do you have to turn the kettle's switch to 'on' before going to bed?

      • +2

Yeah, you turn the kettle on and the Xiaomi wifi plug off. I am still getting in the habit of doing this after I make a coffee.

As a bonus, if you have a Google Home, you can use the Xiaomi Wifi (not ZigBee) plug with it and tell it to 'turn the kettle on'.

        I'm living the dream :)

        • I still don't see the utility.
Good kettles take 30 to 90 secs to heat three glasses of water, where's the efficiency in having Google turn on the kettle.

          • @dealman: It so that by the time you have gone to the loo in the morning the kettle is already boiled.

It's also good for showing off to visitors.

    • just to ensure you are talking about Tefal Avanti Kettle(KI260860) which is compatible with the Xiaomi wifi? I somehow could not find it under Tech Specs on good guys site:

      https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/tefal-avanti-kettle-ki260860

      • Hey mate, the Xiamoi Wifi plug is a separate item that I use with my kettle and can be used with most kettles.

It is just so convenient that I thought I would mention it, lots of OzBargainers have bought the plug in the past.

    • +2

Why not just buy a xiaomi kettle? Then you don't need to remember to turn the kettle switch on.

      • haha, I will as soon as they release a stainless steel one.

I bought the plug for around $10, it's a cheaper option.

        • +2

xiaomi kettle has all stainless steel inside and with plastic cover outside to prevent hot surface.

      • FYI the Xiaomi kettle only supports bluetooth, not wifi, so this wouldn;t work anyway.

$110 for a kettle, what does it do?

    • +20

Apparently it can heat up water to boiling point.

    • +2

      Boil water apparently.

Something our predecessors used to be able to do in a $2 saucepan (or so my history teacher told me).

      • +1

        Pfff primitives

I bought the kmart temp control kettle for $59 about 2 weeks ago, did lots and research, and love it …it's a breville copy,

    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/1.7l-kettle-with-variable-t…

if you break the glass, its the same size as the $35 kettle if handy to swap glass….

I use 90c for my tea,

and 80c for water for poaching eggs like Heston does on masterchef ….don't need thermometer.

    • looks like a great deal.

Similar kettle at Target for $49

Temperature kettles are the best. Don’t know how anyone could think an RRP of $150 for a standard boiling kettle is reasonable.

  • +3

for $110 this kettle better include a high-power blender, smart speaker, and playable JRPG.

    • +1

      … and support playing Doom.

      • DOOM!!!! omg. now thats showing your age. start of serious FPS that was

        • +4

Doom aint got nothin on wolf3d

  • does this kettle consume less electricity than a $10 cheapo?
if so that would translate to long term savings
otherwise at RRP what is the advantage over a simpler kettle?

    • +1

Can't imagine there would be difference in power consumption. So no savings.

Style & materials would be main difference with a cheapie.

Using a $7.50 Kmart kettle for years. Boiling water in that plastic container would put a lot of people off. But as am not using water for drinks or consumption, not an issue. Had 1 fail & Kmart swapped it for a new one.

  • RRP…what is that?

RRP is, whatever price we want to tell you it is worth. This isn't what you can probably get it for everywhere else.

The almost need a 3rd price structure. ARP (Average retail price) so the price, on average, that you can get a product for based on everyone elses price.

I fail to see how this kettle would be worth $150, even if I didn't see it for under $70 just about everywhere on the internet in other places

    • Recommended ridiculous price

  • +1

    RRP…what is that?

It's a device which causes the anchoring effect to occur which leads to a percentage of the readers thinking it's a good deal when they would not have if the RRP was not listed.

While we experience value, or what you call worth, as a fixed quantity in reality it can be easily changed using the RRP.

  • Just had a look and closes I've found is $79.95 at Harris Scarf marked down from $129.95.
So OP got a decent deal considering this.

    https://www.harrisscarfe.com.au/electrical/kitchen-appliance…

  • What so special about this that commands $150 RRP?

This kind of multi-function digital kettle is less than $30: https://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?id=572837069789

  • That $110 must be an error?

They were $29 in the Mothers day sale, discounted from $59.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/375617

    good kettle.

    • So the fanciful figure of $110 is a deliberate consequence of active price jacking

  • +1

I do enjoy putting in the RRP it’s like giving vultures meat to snack on! Love me a good pan and cookware RRP price!

  • +4

How is that thing $150? Looks like a 25 dollar kettle lol

  • +1

Looks just like the $25 Target stainless one I just picked up. Boils water, 360 degree base, doesn't leak = good enough.

  • Great deal OP, thanks! I picked up last one on the shelf at Capalaba. $50 on the tag marked down to the $35 at the counter.

  • Spewing, my kettle broke this morning & closest with stock to Sydney is Bathurst :(
