Could be 10 x 1500mAh :D
Yep, I'd say so!
Soz, 18650
No brand batteries for sure.
If you want durable and powerful batteries, you should buy Bosch (blue) or Metabo tools, but they cost much more than Ozito and similar.I have a suspicion that this battery pack (can be bought in australia) https://www.festool.com.au/products/accessories-and-consumab…
has 5x Sanyo NCR20700A in them… any one want to risk the cash for a test/tear down
Even if it was, $20 a cell isn't that great a deal?
If this were the case, this would be a pretty good buy!
Edit: oh, not the ozito… nevermind
The maths here doesn't work out at all.
A single cell 18650 is 3.7V. Ah ratings DO NOT add in series. Thus, 2 3000 mAh cells = 7.4V @ 3000 mAh.
18/3.7 = 4.8, so 2 banks of 5 in series makes sense at 3Ah, but would be 18.5V, not 18V.
Come on, the maths make perfect sense. A 18650 is technically 2.5V-4.2V (0%-100%) (nominal voltage 3.7V) so the manufacture could consider any voltage they want within range.
18V is 5S x 3.6V.
20V packs are usually 5S x 4V.What's the difference between 18V and 20V regarding the cell count…sweet f**k all!
Also for everyone else considering this, keep in mind this a 5S 1500mAh cells (these days produced by a lot of Chinese companies with sub-par chemistry and process). These are dirt cheap and kinda rubbish (current, cycle life, etc). It would be better to get a 4AH or above that way you have more chances to get a decent cell. At 2000mAh you start to seeing more S.Korean and Japanese cells (i.e. LG/Samsung/Sony). At 5Ah and above you can be pretty sure it's going a be a Samsung SDI or LG due to the easy of getting cells in that capacity.
I'll take that. Sounds like marketing bullshit though :)
A nominal LiIon voltage is 3.7v and any rated voltage should really be a multiple of that.
They must be still trying to clear older 3.0Ah stock
Would rather buy the 4.0Ah for $39 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/372162 when ALDI have similar in their catalog
Aldi Seven Hills, Sydney had lots of their batteries/chargers on sale the other week.
Either new models are on the way or just clearing excess stock.
Can anyone confirm this please, im after a pair of the aldi 4AH but they are never on sale near me.
Always on sale/discounted at nearby Aldi's whenever they run a promo on their battery power tools. Clearing excess stock.
@MrRevhead: Good to hear. Ive been following the aldi clearance thread and it hasnt popped up in a while. I read they had half price packs in broadway a while back a little too late and assumed they had all gone.
I bought 14 4Ah also battries for $20/EA a few weeks ago. Also the charger for $10.
If anyone's interested they're Samsung cells.
@BlinkyBill: What type of Samsung’s? 20r or 20s.
Our ALDI has heaps but were $29.99 still
@wattstar: I tore an ALDI 4Ah pack down a month or so ago. Pics here and here and as you can see the cells are the 20Q variety.
@SteveAndBelle: +1 for the teardown. As I suspected, at 4Ah, 5S at 2000mAh you would start to see more S.Korean cells. Which is why I always advise to get 4Ah or above.
Do you think A 20Q is worth ~$2.2 a cell…hmm..it is…but why build a battery pack on 20Q, you will always think that you should have use 2500mAh or above to get more juice :-)
@mrhugo: When dealing in decent quality cells I've found it's usually the case of the lower the capacity the more charge/discharge cycles and general abuse they can handle and of course vise-versa for higher capacity cells. Absolutely not gospel in this case, just an assumption. Of course it could purely just be down to cost too which is probably much more like it :)
Ok Aldi wentworthvile have a whole stack of 4Ah for $29.99 if anyone is interested. Granvile and Merrylands NSW dont have any even at full price.
Would have picked up more if a could snag then for $20!BlinkyBill, what does one do with 14 blocks of lipos?
@sleepy120: dates on the box was 072018 for some and 042018 for others
@sleepy120: How about $24? ;-)
@mrhugo: Maybe in the morning i would have got 4 at that price but i feel i earned the 2 i needed this morning chasing these. Any more then i wouldnt have an immediate use for.
Best to buy these things as needed.
Aldi must be having some power tools for sale soon.
Anyone know of a printable adaptor for these to make it compatible with Bosch blue? I've had a look but couldn't find anything.
I hadn't seen any on Thingiverse to match the ALDI or Ozito batteries on either end, so instead I built my own.
Unfortunately my printer is out of action so my build is literally a piece of wood with brackets to hold the battery, and spade connectors drilled in to align with the terminals…
I think I remember seeing something for Bosch…
I'm in the process of adapting some of the existing designs to suit Aldi battery > Ryobi though
How would this work? I mean you could adapt the plastic easily enough, but the terminals would be as custom as the plastic moulding?
Terminals are custom sure, but usually just bodge something up with spade terminals. 90% of tools seem to just use positive + negative terminals and ignore all of the battery management pins anyway (if they're even there on the tool). Saying that, you have to use the original charger that matches the battery in use
Great, thanks OP.
I use these for my cordless drill and vacuum - no issues to date after a year and seem to get decent mileage per charge but only use these for DIY and vacuuming the car.
Thanks OP. Needed another one for the vacuum cleaner (which BTW is a cracker IMO).
overall the Ozito range offers a good low cost alternative. But ever chased a third party battery when originals are not on special? Got some el cheapo's for the Ryobi and they were good now the Milwaukee brand has 3rd party options. Harvesting? I would have thought the other way round, keepen the tools going.
So… What 18660s can you harvest out of this :)
