The seller finally got some more stock sent to the Amazon Warehouse after the last deal sold out. Have just bought another one for the brother in-law for Christmas.

The code works for

I'd say you're fine with 32GB unless you tend to have a lot of exciting road incidents. 3 minute videos are 268MB (32GB/268MB=119 videos) and after the card is full it will just overwrite the oldest video. Make sure you select FREE Standard Delivery as it defaults to Expedited Delivery. All ship out of the Amazon Australia Warehouse.

The Cam

I'll repeat from last time:

I'm an avid dashcam video watcher. The quality of the videos on Roadcam vary quite a bit however whenever I see a good quality video I note down the dashcam. Unfortunately, YouTube compresses their videos so it's difficult to ascertain if the details are lost by the camera or in the uploaded video. This was the post that sold me on the B1W. The difficult lighting conditions were handled quite well by the B1W although without seeing the raw video hard to tell a comparison of licence plates.

Videos

However, I've taken some test videos and uploaded them uncompressed-ish (I think) so you can have a look.

Side story: I recently noticed neither of my headlights were working. When trying to diagnose the issue I remembered I took this night video. You can see that only 1 headlight is working. So it appears I've been driving with 1 headlight for a long time and finally the other one went. Fortunately, it was just a simple (and cheap) change of the globes instead of a more complex issue (e.g. broken switch, wiring fault). Another added use for a dashcam.

Using the Cam/App

You connect to the cam via Wi-Fi which has the default password of 1234567890. May be worth changing if you don't want to risk others connecting to your cam. You can also turn the wi-fi off permanently by holding down the cam's button. The app itself lets you choose a bunch of options such as stopping the voice notifications. Blinking green light means recording, solid green means on but not recording and I'm guessing different lights for wi-fi off.

So if you see something interesting on the road, you press the button on the side of the camera. By default, the camera records in 1 minute increments. I've changed mine to 3 but I'm not sure that's really useful. In the app, there is a list of videos on the cam called normal which is the loop of videos and Emergency Video which are the videos it takes when you press the button.

The camera comes with a mounting kit. Basically a bunch of 3M double sided stickers with plastic things you can loop the wire in. So you stick them out of sight at the edge of your windshield.

Highlights

  • 1080p resolution at 30fps with a bit rate of 12Mbps.
  • Sony IMX323 sensor.
  • Novatek GM8135S processor
  • No screen or GPS (settings adjusted with app).
  • Uses capacitors instead of Lithium Ion batteries making it better for hot climates (hello Australian summer). Works up to 70c.
  • Need to settle a road argument? Connect to the wi-fi and you can play the videos in seconds on your phone.
  • Parking Mode (Triggered by G-sensor. When an impact is detected by the G-sensor, the camera starts video recording 30 seconds automatically. The hardwire kit needed for Parking Mode is not included in standard package, buyer needs to buy it separately. $26.99 at the same store)

If you are looking for an affordable, discreet, Wifi enabled camera with good video quality, the Blueskysea B1W is a great choice. Since the camera does not have a screen you will need a smartphone to setup the camera using the available app.Overall one of the best bang for your buck cameras for 2018. Better video quality than the previous budget camera, the A118C. Only unknown is long term reliability. - Dashcam Talk -

Another YouTube Review

I believe the Blueskysea B1W is the compromise between the cheap webcams (e.g. Xiaomi 70min/mai $40-$55and the more expensive quality ones (Viofo A119 Pro ~$133)). Ranked #1 in cheap dashcams on Dashcamtalk (Discussion Thread)

Great write up. I'd buy one but recently bought an A118 and a WAZA B03 from other postings here.

  • Is the microsd card high endurance one?

  • Does this capture the car plate number? I saw the video but I can't really read the car plate number driven past. Need something in case of hit and run as I park my car near station.

    • +1

Yes. At the end of the day if someone hits you it will be close enough to capture. At longer distance it all depends on lighting conditions.

For the best quality, try downloading the files I put on Mega as those are the original files. Streamable/Youtube tends to compress videos.

  • Great deal. How do these compare to one of the Xiaomi 70mai cams?

    • hardware seems similar or same.

      • Got one, thanks Neil.

    • +1

Sensor is the same. Video processing I prefer the 70mai's. This one has parking mode. 70mai has better app I think 70mai has voice commands (dubious usefulness). I do like the 70mai's design more though.

  • Don't forget 6% cashback at Cashrewards.

    • Damn forgot that

    • +2

      And Shopback also at 6%.

    • Would it work with the promo code above? I thought that promo codes not approved by them are ineligible for cashback?

      • Not sure. I got a tracking email with the amount right after. Nothing to lose I suppose.

      • Code is not listed on CR. Having said that, you have nothing to lose by trying. If it tracks and gets approved, great. If it tracks (or not) and gets declined you’ll know why. Thanks.

  • Cheers op got 1

  • cheers, was actually looking for one and thanks for the detail info too

  • -4

Damn OP, if you need a dashcam to figure out that your headlights are broken maybe you shouldn't be driving.

    • I knew when both weren't working. Only the parking lights were on. I didn't know that 1 headlight wasn't working. What I couldn't figure out is if they both died at the same time or if one was actually out.

My car is a 97 Ford so not exactly the brightest like modern cars and I almost entirely drive in the day and if at night usually brightly lit city areas.

  • +1

Already got a Xiaomi 70 for the front dash cam. Would this be any good in the rear windscreen of a Mazda 6 station wagon and would the cable reach the USB point in the centre console or the cigarette lighter in the front?

  • +1 for the bargain , +1 for the description

  • Awesome OP - Thank you for the post bought one.

  • +1

thanks just got one, anyone know if a 2.4A cigarette charger like the roid mi can power this?

  • better than the 70mai from xiaomi?

    • +1

Overall slightly better imo, but they have slightly varying strengths and weaknesses.

      • Cheers 😊

        • +1

Haha no worries. If you're choosing between the two, I had a short summary of the differences below but mainly:

          Both have the same sensor.

I like the 70mai's image processing better than (the videos I've seen of) this B1W.

70mai also seems to have the better app, and voice controls (make sure you get an english version).

70mai's microphone and audio recording is also better (but legally risky - I don't use it).

This B1W has parking mode (but only records after impact so questionable usefulness).

The B1W uses super-capacitors, 70mai uses batteries. Capacitors better for hot weather.

And completely subjectively, the 70mai looks better/more expensive.

  • Great OP - bought! Been looking for a dashcam that isn't so bulky and good quality. Couldn't get an idea of how long the battery lasts though?

    • There is no battery. It uses capacitors which is better for hotter climates.

  • But the video reviews of this dash cam on YouTube show average or below average image quality though. How come it's this popular here?

    • YouTube downgrades the quality not heaps like Facebook but enough to be able to see a numberplate or not which is pretty big when deciding on dashcams

Great little cam for my needs, so I have ordered another either as backup or place it in my rear. Clear night and day capture (nice wide angle cam view), and discreet-mounted behind my rear view mirror. Nice little tool to work the cabling behind the trim, and some cable mounting clasps provided too. Nice little package overall.

The 360 degree swivel is awesome. Found it more meaningful to view the file captures on my laptop vs mobile. Reasonable WiFi connect via an App with my LGV30+ to set camera perimeters and view files. I have set my file capture at 5 minutes with audio off.

stick to the cheap endoscopes ;)

  • Err….none left?

  • Newb question - will this automatically start recording when the car starts up (and stop when you stop the engine), so essentially no need to touch it once it's been setup?

Looking at the user manual, it appears it does?

"Camera will start recording automatically when plugged into the car cigarette lighter socket, no need extra operation."

      • Great - thanks ;)

And not only that, it provides a voice notification upon turning the key and powering up (assuming you have it plugged in) within 12 seconds.. And when you turn the ignition off - you get a little sound notification too. I did have a small issue with my 64GB card initially (would not recognise the card) so I formatted it on my laptop (FAT32) and bingo it all fired up.

Upon each startup it checks the status of your SD card as well and provides a notification that it has been detected - which is reassuring. Once you are all powered up you will see the green light on it blink to indicate it is now automatically recording… An adequate manual is provided that explains the ins and outs.

          I like this little bugger…

          • @aussea: Cheers for the extra info :)

          • @aussea: Does it need to be hardwired for park mode to work?

Looking for a dash cam and should really get one soon but there is so much information and it gets very confusing tbh.

            • @Mrs W: The dashcam would need a power supply. When you switch the car off, the power to the cigarette lighter switches off. That leaves hardwiring or alternatively connecting it to a power bank.

              • @neil: Thanks.

Quick follow up question, is the power cord that comes with the cam able to be plugged into a USB port? Not interested in hardwiring at this point but definitely could just hook it up to a power bank.

I'd really appreciate if you'd all stop posting great deals for items I'm actively in the market for. This was going to be my savings month… it absolutely was. I swear giving up Ozbargain is harder than cigarettes.

  • Code doesn't work, presume all gone.

    • Still works on my side

      • just tried didnt work

    • Camera is out of stock and Amazon puts the next seller as default (AUEyoyo). The cams with 32GB and 64GB card are still in stock.

      • Currently back in stock as at 11:43am today.

Just ordered two and the code worked, Sold by AUBaiklov - Fulfilled by Amazon:

        Order Summary
        Item(s) Subtotal: $159.98
        Delivery: $5.99
        Total: $165.97
        Promotion(s) Applied: -$45.99
        Grand Total: $119.98

    • Scratch that I had the wrong seller.

Bit strange though, I changed it to baiklov, the code worked but only brought the price to $65 for camera only with standard shipping.

Then when I look at my order it looks like it was actually sold by Blueskysea. I dunno.

      Pulled the trigger anyway.

      • The stock quantities seem to go in and out. Just make sure you get the fulfilled by Amazon otherwise you'll have to wait to get it shipped from China.

        • Oh dammit mine is coming from China.

The code doesn't work on any seller fulfilled from Amazon, as far as I can tell. All a bit of a mess really.

  • Code doesn’t work anymore and I had been waiting for this 😑

  • Doesn't seem to work now.

"The promotional code you entered cannot be applied to your purchase."

    • Out of stock except the 64GB now.

  • Code worked but with 32GB card price is $78.99 after $26 promotional credit?

  • This or Viofo that recently came on Ozbargain?

    • Not in the same level. This is a budget dashcam whereas viofo one is much better in quailty and spec, of course price is higher too.

All gone, I think the 64GB is still in stock. I'm guessing the seller will have more in-stock but perhaps will take a couple of months to get them to Amazon. Just let me know if you want one in the comments below and I'll PM you the day before like I did with those in the last deal who asked.
