  • looked into this a while back and it's good for what it is, but the Hub doesn't see it as 'wired' so you are still on limited battery features.

    • I doubt the arlo can last 16 hours on battery with wired features.

So I'm not sure why you'd want it.

      • +1

You're not an Arlo user I'm guessing. They're not designed as 24/7 CCTV devices. Their primary use is for recording on activation i.e. motion or sound and then sending push notifications. Having the Solar panel means you can up the sensitivity and recording times without having to constantly remove them and charge the in the house.

        • No I'm not an Arlo user, but my understanding is that in wired mode it can do 24/7 recording… which is what I'm saying won't last 16 hours.

Thats why it can't do what andrgram is asking correct?

          @samfisher5986:

No idea, ill tell you if I ever start recording 24/7

CCTV = record 24/7 and get home to find your house has been robbed and you have pictures of the culprits
Arlo = record on activation, ID. the culprit via push notifications and call police to return to your house in 1 piece.

        • @samfisher5986: No….Arlo work off 2 settings, battery (limited features) and plugged back into a powerpoint (full features). theres heaps of benefit to having it plugged in, but in the same respect theres many positives to having it run on battery and completely wireless.

I think both you and @relliksalta are right in your respective comments, but i think @relliksalta may have misunderstood where you were coming from.

So just to clarify, im talking about Arlo Battery vs Arlo Powered, not Arlo vs PPoE

        • @samfisher5986: having it externally powered is good for what @joshuah mentioned below, but it's also handy in that it records several frames prior to the main 'alert' so you can see the person/people/thing coming up to the hotspot of specified 'zones'.

        • @andrgram:

But anyway the original point was

If you can't get 16 hours out of the battery, there is no point to the solar panel when running on wired mode, if you could anyway….

      • +1

You can setup zoned areas, so if you have a full footpath in view or road, it would constantly pickup motion.. however, with the zone mode enabled (or whatever it's called) you can create the zone(?) to only show alerts within the 'zone'?

  • interested but arlo dont work with synology.

    • You can plug a USB HDD into the station.

      • what do you mean plug usb HDD?

  • I've bought one but yet to test it. Would it be suitable for a mobile phone charging device i.e. camping? It's a micro USB connection.

  • Can these be used for the Arlo Pro 2 camera?

    • Yes

  • I am wondering how long sunlight for a full charge 2440mAh rating 7.2V 17.57Wh

    • I plugged mine in when my Arlo Pro 1 was around 75%, I don't have the best position for the solar panel because the cable isn't long enough for me to avoid shadows from a tree but it charged to 100% after about a week and has been sitting at 95-100% ever since.

If I had a clear spot in a full day of sun with no trees waving around, I'm pretty sure it could've charged from 75% to full within a day or so.

  • Thanks OP, been weighing up on buying one from eBay for $115, just got pricemached at Officeworks and free delivery as they didn't have any in store.

  • Thanks OP just bought 2
