I REALLY love Canton's Hifi equipment. I would buy this in a heartbeat if I could afford to! I have owned quite a bit of their stuff over the last 15 years and its such well built, high quality gear. All the stuff I have owned/own is made in Germany. Not sure about this unit. But I can definitely vouch for the quality of the brand. The name brand reminds me of a Chinese restaurant. But their stuff sounds like, looks like, feels like and is built like a Michelin starred restaurant. :)

I feel the passion. But this thing doesn't have HDMI ports?

Why $100 Target unit can but this cannot?

      • Yeah, good point. That might be a question for the OP!
Bit of a shame. It might just be the German way, I remember I used to have a Grundig TV. It had a sensational picture and sensational sound (For the time, anyway) but it didn't have component inputs, it only had a SCART plug, which is very European, but very uncommon with the Japanese brands I think. Maybe they spend all their research money on quality components, and don't focus on connectivity. Who knows. Hard to defend not having HDMI! :)

Yes, unfortunately it doesn't have HDMI connectivity and the reason for that is unknown, however it does still deliver incredible sound (especially for the size of the unit) and the features make it an even greater product to miss out on. The difference you'll find with a $100 Target unit and a Canton unit is the quality of the build and the quality of the sound. It may not have HDMI but it'll definitely give you a lot more than what the other unit can. At the end of the day you want to buy something that is not only going to last, but will perform how you want it to and at a great price, and buying a German made product is definitely going to give you that :)

        • Also on the topic of HDMI connectivity, there is no difference in the sound quality whether it's connected via HDMI or optical. The benefit of connecting via Optical is that rather than plugging your soundbar into the TV via HDMI and then connecting your external devices to the soundbar and selecting the right input for the device, you can simply connect everything to the TV and have your soundbar automatically switch on for your sound. It makes things less complicated for the user when connecting your unit this way :)

Canton is still made in Germany and the quality of the products is definitely still as good as it has always been. This is definitely a great buy :)

Wow. A Canton soundbar? One of the best brand in the Hifi world. I am so tempted but I have so many high quality speakers already. Do I need another one, really?

    • +1

Rio Sound & Vision would very much like you to think that you do! :)

    • +1

Haha I think you do! You honestly cant go past how great of a bargain this is. You know yourself what the quality of Canton is like, so why not add something like this to your collection when you can get it at a price this great? :)

I have the DM50 in gloss white and it is incredible. Get on board if you're after a quality sound base. Pairs beautifully with my Panasonic Remote so never need to pick up the (seriously well built) Canton remote.

  • TruSurround is not surround.

would very much like to hear this but can't see how you wouldn't be better off putting $500 into a 2.0 setup.

    • +1

Well the difference is that $500 2.0 setup isn't Canton! You have to remember that you'd have to find a cheap pair of active speakers to be able to get that set up for that price, or you'd be spending more to get a decent amp to match the speakers bought for $500 a pair, and why do that when you have a unit like this that will give you better sound than a pair of cheap speakers with all the features you'd need, or spending more money when you're on a budget? Canton have a great reputation for having quality product, and you can see that other users share the passion for the brand like we do :)

In saying this, I believe Canton are currently only in Melbourne, so if you're ever down here come in to one of our stores and check it out :)
