Isn't the '7 Day Free Trial' always free?

    • +1

It says at launch, they could get rid of it after and then if you want to play the games officially on Switch you'll have to pay.

      • they could get rid of it

        or not…

What a joke of a service. Can't even cloud save some of the biggest titles.

    • +3

      Yep, this is sad.

    • Can't even send a message to people on your friends list

    • Yet it's still better than psn

  • With online membership, is it possible to play the games mentioned above without game card?

    • +2

      Their NES games, so yes.

      • Not for the Switch games?

    • +7

I hope so, might be hard to fit a NES cart in the Switch.

Its amazing that in 2018 Nintendos on-line service wouldn't even compete to what xbox live had 15 years ago.

    • The only metric I care about comparing is that it allows for online play, which is cheaper on switch so as far as I'm concerned switch is a better deal

  • Seems to me that Nintendo are saving up all the retro 1st party titles for their mini console releases. We won't see any SNES or 64 or even Wii games on the switch for a few years until they feel they've ridden out the mini consoles. I for one won't be paying for this service with its current paltry offerings.

I've been enjoying this free online trial for over a year and a half. Amazing it took them this long to limit it to only a week for the trial.

Do you need this subscription to play mario kart or splatoon online?

    • Yes you will.

  • +2

$54.95 a year???????????????? what a rip-off. other than 20 games that i can download off the internet, does this service actually give any benefits?

    • Meant to get extra discounts, full details should be tomorrow morning though.

Also they're meant to increase the amount of games over time.

      • +1

i dont really care about games that were released like 20 years ago though and it seems like you'd better off not spending money and purchasing games at normal price rather than paying much more and getting discounts that are probably gonna be pretty minimal considering it's nintendo.

Btw, if you don't need family membership it's only $29.95 a year, and if you do might hope the rest of the family will/can pay some of it.

        • @sss333:
So can someone adopt me to be part of their family? Works out like $7.50 a year right?

  • Free multiplayer is now paid for..

And there's no excuse for not having cloud save to all non Online subscribers.

    Nintendo.. you suck.

    • Nintendo announced from day one that this was coming.

It was meant to arrive in March 2018, so you've got the best part of a year of extra free online play.

Now you have to pay $30/year to keep playing online. Wow. I'll extend my mortgage then to cover that astronomical amount.

  • Who's keen in being part of my Nintendo Family?
