Heat travels upwards while gravity pulls water downwards, so the rails will only dry that little bit of clothes that loop around them. Unless you lay the clothes flat on an entire section for 1-2 items, the majority of clothes that hang below the rails will simply be air-dried as normal.

Or you can try wrapping your clothes around the dryer like this, with a reported 2 days drying time for a 7kg load: https://imgur.com/a/VrqFGdv

    • Won't they smell by then?

    • I bring this point up every time this shit product is posted. Don't know why this crap even exists to be honest.

This is not entirely correct - yes the top of the clothes/other item will dry the quickest and for a given time period be the driest part, but there will still be an increased drying effect on the rest of the surface area of the clothes/items than for a non-heated airer.

Heat does indeed move upwards - but it isn't heat that rises so much as hot air (heated by the heat) - hot air is less dense hence it moves up relative to cold air. Cold air is "drawn in" to fill the space that the hot air has vacated - i.e. more airflow around the clothes. This is natural convection. A very small amount of heat will conduct through the rest of the clothes (emphasis on very) - how much of an increased drying effect this has in practice idk and i'm too lazy to calculate it - but for $10 I reckon this could be worth a punt.

      • airflow around the clothes; convection

A fan blowing at the hanging clothes will dry them significantly faster and saves more electricity than relying on the miniscule convection current created by this heated airer. This is called evaporation.

        https://blog.metservice.com/washingweather

Wind is also very useful. On a still day, the air around your clothes can saturate, slowing down or even stopping evaporation. On a windy day, the humid air is transported away, and fresh air below saturation brought in.

        • Considering this thing has more hanging space than the other airers priced around it at kmart ($6 and $13) it's a decent value proposition at $10 as it also looks a lot sturdier. Not everyone has a yard or a big clothes line, rain and high humidity are things also.

Blowing a fan at an airer is also a thing, but you also need to buy a pedestal fan for what, another $13 (kmart) (often $9 around the place, and the fan uses power as well.

If you want to dry clothes as quickly as possible - buy a clothes dryer, use a lot more power and capital outlay.

If you want to dry clothes as cheaply as possible - use an outdoor line or even better - don't wash your clothes at all like a feral and save the most money (no water, no power, no detergent!).

All I'm saying is for the price this thing definitely has a genuine use case for some people - namely folks in apartments. Its decent even if you don't plug it in at this price.

Yeah you're a power user but you're not making it easy for new users to the community are you? Its their first post, cheapest price and you've just torn it apart.

This thing exists for the same reason heated towel rails exist - to dry shit a bit faster without an ungainly fan pointed at it.

        • @Wilburre:

Stop right there Wilburre. I have issue with the effectiveness of the product. Am I not allowed to write negatively just because this is OP's first post? I did not write anything remotely about the OP and I made no comment about the price. I did not vote negative on the deal. Contrarily, I quoted another user's positive experience to give balance.

What did I being a PU have to do with this deal? I had not misused my editing power to sabotage the deal, I had not mentioned I am a PU, and I have not abused my status to make the OP feel unwelcome. Do not slander me as a bully.

        • @alvian: thank you Alvian and Wilburre. : ) it’s just a post to share love in ozbargain with all the ozbargainers. I have benefited heaps from this awesome community, it’s my turn to give :) none of us have bad intentions a ^_*

        • @yefranky: Thank you for posting the deal, yefranky. For 10 minutes I seriously considered driving to Burwood to buying one for myself, until I viewed that YouTube video advertisement and saw the ridiculous configuration of the heating rails.

It was on clearance at $5 last month. I returned mine which bought for $19, and get 2 of them for a total of $10 and extra $9 back in my pocket.

    • 👍well done: )

    • That's good Ozbargaining!

What is your opinion of the effectiveness of these heated clothes racks, having used them?

  • Can confirm they had two left at North Rocks, NSW at this price yesterday.
