    • Updated, thanks mate

    • This deserves it's own post imo.

    • Thanks, I ordered the WS770is once it was out of stock so they are sending me a 1100is instead. Cheers :D

My ATH A900X have been good but I did have to replace the ear foam covers after 2 years as they started to disintegrate .
On the plus side the covers were cheap on Ebay .

      • My ATH-ANC7b's have been nothing but trouble. They sound ok when they work, but they are really flaky. I can't go more than a couple of minutes without one ear or the other cutting out now.

Are these better than the M50x?

Though who am I kidding, I don't need new headphones.

    • +1

I was about to ask this lol (need a new pair of cans) - so if anyone wants to answer, please do.

These appear to be on ear - aren't the M50x over ear?

    • I don't either. Bought the SHP9500 from AliExpress the other day. But it's not to say I'm not tempted lol

    • -1

Anything is better then the m50, they sound so bland

      • It was designed for the music production (ie flat frequency) not enjoying music. Have you tried a pair of Yamaha monitor hs series? Same thing.

    • Hah, I'm on the same boat. I want new headphones, but I don't need them.

  • Not bad.

    • Go with Kogan then, to avoid the pccg cc surcharge!

      • +3

PCCG has free shipping, Kogan is $13.95.

Besides, better to keep it local.

        • +3

          Free with Shipster

PCCG has free shipping, Kogan is $13.95.

Good point about that. Forgot to mention shipster as below.
There's also the fact that you can refer your imaginary friends to Kogan and get -$10

Besides, better to keep it local.

Couldn't give a (profanity) about that. Local == Harvey Norman / EB Games == ripoff.

      • PCCG has stopped CC surcharge long time ago, when was the last time you visit the shop????

        • Probably a while ago. Never went back because of the surcharge.

  • Just purchased. I hope no one makes a comment that will make me regret my decision.

My only other experience with high quality headphones is with a hand-me-down AKG K7XX but one side stopped working when a cable came apart, it could be repaired with soldering but I've been too lazy to attempt the repair.

After a quick google, there's been mixed reviews of these headphones, but this is a big discount from the rrp. This headphone is also selling for $99 from other stores but they also have shipping costs. So the $99 price doesn't seem that 'special'.

At least these have a removable cable. I also had a set of AudioTechnics - cable died, had to repair with soldering. Eventually died elsewhere on the cable so tossed $250 headphones in the bin.

    • +1

The only downside I see with these are that they are on-ear. But you probably knew that already and if you purchased them then that means it's not as big of a problem for you as it is for me.
      Good luck and enjoy.

I actually prefer over-ear headphones as I have big ears, I'm definitely worried about it being on-ear. Only purchased because I really need a new headphone. I hope it works out for me too, thanks.

        • For 100 bucks I doubt you'll have much regrets. Use it while you can save up for something more permanent and just pass em down to a family member or something when you upgrade.

        • With the memory foam you won't notice the pressure as much with on-ears. I have the 1MORE Triple Driver On-Ears and they are very comfy.

        • Over ear has its advantages but traps heat and becomes uncomfortable for me sometimes

    • +1

AKG K7XX has a removable cable (mini-XLR). Why not just buy a new cable for a few bucks?

Sorry to say but the AKG will sound and feel better than these.

      • Sorry, I wasn't sure how to describe it, it's the wire inside the headphone that broke. The cable is fine.

You know what, I'll try to cancel my order then buy a soldering kit and attempt the repair. My problem is apparently a common problem so there should be enough resources to guide me.

        • +2

Oh, in that case then yes it will take a bit more work, but it shouldn't be too difficult to take apart and re-solder the contacts inside the ear cup. If you get stuck feel free to PM me.

I would also try and contact Massdrop / AKG customer service and see what they say, you could get lucky with a good CS rep!

    • Let me know if you want to sell your broken K7XX

  • Not worth $270 but $99 is a bargain!

  • anyone know if these will be good on a plane?

    • no noise cancelling

    • +1

Yes, what my counterpart said above - these aren't the droids cans your looking for.

  • anyone know of good noise cancelling headphones for plane trips that doesn't cost an arm and a leg..

  • Any good headsets around for Xbox with mic for my son??

  • would these be good for a podcasting environment? ie do they bleed sound?

  • PCCG having good deals? When?!

  • -1

A quick google search shows multiple retailers are selling at the same price or $10 higher. Is it really a good deal?

    https://www.dicksmith.com.au/da/buy/audio-technica-ath-sr5-o…

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/audio-technica-ath-sr5-on-ear-h…

P.s. Kogan owns DSE, so this makes sense.

    • +2

These would most likely be grey imports and to your point, "multiple retailers" is actually two links to essentially the same retailer.

I think this is a deal PCCG are reputable and local, if you had a warranty issue way better chance of help with them as well.
