Is this specific to Amazon? e.g. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/401889#comment-6346427

      Hey pifts,

Yes this is specific to Amazon.

      • I am a first time shopback user, I normally use cashrewards. so I want to know few things.

I just made a purchase on Amazon, I add 3 items in the basket as required by Shopback after clicking the shop link. but when can I expect to receive an tracking email?

        Thank you

        • Hey jamielau916,

Welcome! You can expect to receive a tracking email for Amazon purchases after a few days (up to 4 days).

Keep an eye out on your emails in the next few days.

  • +5

Wow nice. Is ShopBack focusing on gaining market share on Cashrewards? Seems that your marketing is much more aggressive of late.. which is good for us consumers.

  • +2

Do you have to wait 2-3 months like Cash Rewards?

    • +1

      Hey Bashter33,

Waiting periods will vary between stores as they all need to approve your transaction (confirming you haven't used unapproved coupons, made returns, cancellations etc), so depending on the store some may be quick while others may take a bit longer. This waiting period should be consistent for all cashback sites, but once again the duration of the wait depends on the store involved.

      • +3

        So 2-3 months?

        • Yes, this would be the case for Amazon.

        • Seems to be estimating 10wk for all mine

  • +3

They are gearing up for battle with another new competitor launching soon…."ShopRewards"

    • +2

CashBack has a better ring to it

  • Awesome!

  • +1

Can we lock this cashback % in now if we preorder something?

    • Would also like to know this

    • Hey tobinm and naedtrax, unfortunately you won't be able to lock it in. We only see pre-orders in our transaction reports once they are shipped.

      • +1

        No worries, thanks for clarifying.

  • Hi rep,

Does it matter if the item is in "Saved for later"? I should get the cashback as long as it wasn't in cart to begin with right?

    • Hi tobi3421,

We actually haven't tried this and you do raise a good question. We'll test this out.

In the mean time it's probably best you stay on the safe side and add the item to your cart from the actual product page.

I'm just going to put this out there, I am probably wrong and you probably share different beliefs but I personally will not support Singaporean-based companies solely based on the fact that I do not support how Singaporean companies take advantage of the no-minimum wage bar in their country to underpay workers.

In a very broad sense, I believe that if I use my money to support them I am effectively endorsing their behavior in Singapore, and thus contributing to the slave-like lifestyle that we will never see here in Australia.

I believe that in the same way we pay for cheap things in China, the price that we are able to benefit from is from someone else's detriment.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

    • +6

So going off that comment I guess you don't own a mobile phone or buy anything from China?

      • -3

I try my best not to, yeah. At it's worst I will buy chinese phones/ parts from Australian retailers to support local jobs, even by a fraction.

I try to support local competition instead of foreign competition, because I believe that our local Aussie start-ups would benefit way more from my patronage than someone who comes from a foreign market.

        • +1

You gotta be kidding me. Not sure how old you are but before clothes were made in China, you either had to pay exorbitant pricing or have your mum/wife sew or knit some clothes for you.

If you're an Ozbargain type of guy, you'd be wearing the same three tshirts throughout the whole year and still consider simple tshirts expensive.

The only thing that really pisses me off about Singapore is their tax heaven status encouraging money laundering. But then so is Ireland and Hong Kong.

        • +2

@fuzor: I'm not talking about me as a consumer. I'm just saying that all our actions have results, and I would rather spend my money elsewhere to support our own than jump on the cheapest bandwagon every single time.

Who doesn't want to save money? I certainly do. I'm sure you do too. The flip side is that when you spend on businesses with unethical practices, you might also be closing an eye to unethical business and environmental practices.

All I am saying is that most Singaporean companies take advantage of unethical employment laws, and I would rather see them go out of business than compromise the salary of workers there for a measly 10% in savings for 4 hours.

We don't have a right to complain that there is no competition when Amazon eventually squeezes out your last local supermarket store. And that's going to happen eventually. All because we want to save that 10-12% on our spending right now rather than support local enterprises.

        • @Ghosteye: I respect your feelings mate. Support Ausstralian businesses if the discounts are small and Aus. businesses also to become a bit competitive.

    • Throw your phone/computer and most other electronic things that you own. Also, most of your clothes you wear are manufactured overseas..doubt you will be walking around naked..

      • +6

the realist/ idealist balancing rope is a tough line to walk on. Doesn't mean we have to be ignorant about everything though….

    • +1

That's an easy thought trap to fall into.

The cheap things we buy from China, over the past 40 odd years "..has lifted more than 800 million people out of poverty" according to the World Bank.

      http://www.worldbank.org/en/country/china/overview

A lot if countries aren't wealthy enough to provide a good social safety net like Australia, where low unemployment, highly skilled and developed economy and high taxes allow us to provide this. Lastly we're physically isolated, so there's no real close competition for lowly paid jobs.

Less developed countries generally can't do this. Competition from neighbouring countries also puts pressure on wages for the same sort of unskilled/low skilled jobs.

    • not judging your views, it's a fine opinion. but pretty sure you're preaching on the wrong site. you aren't going to get very far when the (very obvious) priority of the viewership is price.

  • not from amazon austrlaia? …..only amazon.com?

eidted:sorry, just followed link to shopback and see that it is amazon australia.

    • The deal picture has Amazon.com.au

      The conditions say

      Other Terms & Conditions
Cashback is only available on purchases made at Amazon Australia (not Amazon US)

  • Does anyone know if cashback works if you use an adblocker? I don't know if it's relevant, just wondering. Also how many business days, on average, does it take to get the cashback? And can we use PayPal to receive the cashback or does it have to be a bank account? Thanks

    • Hi OzBoganYeah,

Using ad blockers can impact on your ability to receive cashback as it might block out certain scripts/cookies etc that are vital for tracking your transaction, so it's best to disable it when you need to make a purchase.

Cashback usually takes a few months for our partner stores to confirm (some faster, some slower). You can cash out your cashback earnings to a bank account or PayPal account.

    • must not use adblocker
      2-3months on average
      can withdraw as paypal

    • +1

Not just adblockers but any browser extensions that block tracking, scripts or cookies. Popular ones that interfere include Ghostery, noscript and extensions added by your antivirus software. Even installed software like AdGuard will stop it from tracking too.

      • It works for me with pihole and adblocker.

        • That doesn't mean it will work everytime. Depends on how the adblockers are configured and what affiliate network is being used. uBlock Origin for example will block CommissionFactory and Shareasale that are both very large networks.

  • Should I buy a switch now?

    • I love playing MK on my switch. Also great if you travel a lot - its better than any entertainment available on a plane

    • Buy when it reaches $300 again

  • so tempted to get a switch

    • +4

I am too but with Christmas a few months away I expect there to be some price wars… hopefully.

    • black friday might be good this year so im waiting for that

  • Hi Rep does this apply to Amazon Prime subs?

    • Hi fuzor,

Cashback doesn't apply to Prime subscriptions.

      • +1

        • Hey spaceflight,

Sorry for the confusion there - that link is there just to feature some of Amazon's offerings. It might be worth for us to indicate that it's not eligible for cashback (as we can't track such transactions), so thanks for raising this.

  • This sale is rubbish. I spent an 2 hours shopping on cottonon for some items as they were advertising 49% cashback. Then when I go to conclude the sale I check the shopback link and see that they have changed it back to 20% cashback.

What kind of promo only runs a few hours?

    • +5

Invalid neg reason. You missed the increased cash back promo hours how was their fault? If they run it for 364 days you will argue you miss it by one day too?

      • I didnt miss it. I clicked on it before it expired. They changed the promo as i was shopping

        • -1

So they ended the advertised promo period early like eBay did?

        • @wtfnodeal:

The time limit was not advertised anywhere on the cashback site. Only the day it expired was advertised (i.e. today). I came to learn of the expiry of the time on this site afterwards.

if a cashbach offer is limited to less than 2 hours make it clear so that people dont spend time shopping on a website.

        • @Likes2rap: this promo states it ends midnight today which means 11.59.59pm on 9 Sep 2018 so it is clear. If they did not advertise the exact finish time for Cottonon then yeah it was dodgy but did you go through all the fine print before click through their website to Cottonon?

    • +1

      Hi likes2rap,

The promotion was running from 10am this morning until 2pm AEST.

The end time was indicated on our banners

      • didnt see that.

        anyway i revoked the neg.

        • +2

          That's your fault then.

        • +5

@Likes2rap: quick to blame people and not even an apologise. Hope you have learned something here.

      • +1

This would be pretty upsetting and seems easy to miss a banner when you are busy looking for the items.

Anyway, would it be worth helping likes2rap regardless of the slightly shitty attitude? Eg meet halfway or something. You might get a good customer judging on two hours of shopping!

        • +1

          Hey spillmill,

It definitely is upsetting to miss out on deal like this, especially after browsing around for quite some time.

We were actually considering doing something for likes2rap given they did spend a while looking for items. Will have this sorted out shortly.

Thanks for your comment on the other hand!

        • @gotyourback: nice to hear!

        • -1

          @gotyourback: Hey that is great!

Sometimes complaining gets results. Something you can learn wtfnodeal

        • +1

          @Likes2rap:

That is honesty a shitty attitude. Maybe a thanks and instead of complaint, you can compliment shopback instead.

        • @fuzor: he/she is just a child refuses to grow up so we should just move on let him/her be.

  • +3

Shame Amazon use SlowWay / NeverWay AKA "FastWay" couriers to deliver here in SA, the most corrupt delivery company out there! On two occasions my parcels have been marked as undeliverable, then signed for by someone in another state, they've been useless to deal with over the matter and had to chase it up with Amazon to get a refund. Google Fastway review and you'll see I'm not the only one..

  • Pretty please, with SUGAR ON TOP

Can you please double the DELL / ALIENWARE cashback.

I am about to drop $2k on DELL

    • We actually had double cashback for Dell early last week :(

Would really love to but we'll have to wait till Dell gives us a commission increase!

  • Hi rep, how long does it take to confirm if the cash back has been processed on your end? Does it take the 2-3 months when it gets paid out? Or is it confirmed before that, thanks

    • Hi big bill broonzy,

Cashback for Amazon will appear on your account after a few days (up to 4) as 'pending'. However it is correct that it does take 2-3 months for it to get 'confirmed'. Once 'confirmed' you will be able you withdraw those funds to a bank/PayPal account.

  • I did added them after signing in (activating it) but the cashback buddy still doesn't seem to be activated

    • Hey bailbondsh,

We've temporarily switched off Amazon from the extension (just for today) so we don't get people clicking through links that'll only get them 6% cashback. As such you won't see the extension blink, flash, change colour etc.

That saying, if your last click is through Amazon Flash Sale from ShopBack before making your purchase it'll be okay.

Just remember to empty your cart and only add items to your cart after clicking through ShopBack!

      • I might have accidently activated through the buddy as well. Would that be a problem?

        • When you click through the extension it should take you to the Amazon.com.au Flash Sale page on ShopBack, where you need to click "Activate Cashback" or "Get Deal" on the page to be taken to Amazon.

As long as you can see that your lastest click in your click activity was for Amazon Flash Sale and not Amazon Australia, you should be fine.

        • +1

@gotyourback: ok i think everything went that way… i guess we'll wait and see.

  • Hi Rep, the Cotton On cashback amount shown as pending seemns to be less than 49%
Spent $50 cashback shows $22.28 can you please check? Seems to be 49%off pre-GST.

    • Hey jamesbp,

This would be correct for Cotton On with the fact that cashback is not applicable on GST.

      Cashback notes

Excludes taxes, fees or additional extras

      • +2

Probably should have been more clearer!

  • Now what should I buy?

  • @gotyourback: Does anyone know if you can buy vouchers and get 12% off?

    • Hey DreamerBoy,

Gift card purchases won't qualify for cashback.

      • Cool, thanks bud.

  • Just bought $370 worth of cables, chargers and other bits to use for stock. A bunch of IT stuff is on Prime and cheaper/same as wholesalers. Plus no freight & it rocks up in 3 days. $40 cash back @ 12% (after gst) is pretty damn good.

    • Good on you. The deal is okay if Amazon AU carried products you need.

Are you running some business? it made me wonder what kind of cables you bought.

Normal household hardly need $370 cables on regular base.

The limited product range is what people plagued about Amazon AU, especially those used to shop on Amazon US.

      • I work in the IT division of a mid size business. Mostly managed services but we sell a few HP Mini desktop PC’s with only DisplayPorts. Just about always someone needs a DisplayPort to HDMI or DVI cable to use their existing monitors. Bought some more of those, some 3.5 to 2.5” Hdd brackets for SSD upgrades, a spare WD 2tb Red NAS HDD and a few more small adaptors. Also got a spare charger for my Surface Laptop I bought through a sweet Ozbargain EBay deal a while ago :).
This was all on Prime with 3 day free freight and cheaper or very close or the same as wholesale, without having to find WA stock and organise couriers. Honestly, there’s quite a lot of decent Prime AU products if you have a good look around. Even the cans of Coke on Prime are pretty decently priced if the supermarket doesn’t have em on special!

  • Not as good as the 12% but it is currently showing 9%

  • Hi rep, my 2x Amazon AU purchases (separate sessions) haven't come up as being tracked yet, it's been 4 days..?
