    70" for a 1k tv is a first!

    True OzBargain television right there….

    • -8

      70" for 1k.

Hmmm I'm about 63" short, damnit.

      • Is that it?

        scoffs

  • Anyone have one?

    • Yep.

Picked one up tonight from the DONCASTER EAST VIC store.

      • What do you think?

        • Set it up. Netflix works, picture quality is pretty great with some solid contrast. Bargain for $949 (used 5% cashrewards shift card).

I just got rid of a Sony Bravia OLED and the difference is there, but the average punter won't care/notice.

  • Damm That's cheap and Android 6.0!!!! good effort Big W

  • +11

I think a 65" 4K Aldi TV @ $499 is a better value? The only issue I see with having some smart functionality or Android is that it makes the menu changes painfully slow at times.

    • When is the next aldi tv sale?

    • -5

yea 130" vs 70" for same price

      • +6

130" is actually 4 times bigger than 65"

    • +2

      65” for $499 was when?

      • It was on sale earlier on in the year for $700 odd however at two recent store reopenings they have been selling them for $499.

Call the Aldi line and ask them. They can check store levels or if any are around

    • +2

Yeah waiting for Aldi to do 75 inch at $1000

      • Same.

      • It's in stock now, but price still keeps $1499 or $1599,not yet down

        • The day they drop it to $1000 I'll grab one

        • +1

@kamban: I saw a 75" TV at Aldi 2 days ago. It was a marked down unit, from their last run of 75" TVs.

This was in Melbourne. Not sure if it's all stores. I doubt it as I think they priced it to get rid of the last one.

I didn't post it as there was only one unit.

Anyway, maybe call Aldi HQ and see if anyone has stock left, then can the store and at what price? You might get lucky.

@kale chips suck: This is actually an amazing idea, worth a try , will do it tomorrow, thanks mate

p.s Kale Chips are an abomination

        • @kale chips suck:

If the person who buys that 75" TV from Aldi is a typical Aldi shopper, you'll see them wheeling it down the road in a trolley.

        • @kale chips suck:

          which store?

        • @edrift: I thought I'd answered this, but it didn't post: Eltham, Vic. I just dropped in on the way home and it's gone now. Might still be others elsewhere though.

    • +1

65 to 70 is a big increase and has generally been the point where price starts getting exponentially higher.

      I have a 65 and would much prefer 70 or 75.

    • +2

Its 60" for $599 isn't it? Or am I missing something?

      • +1

The 60” is on sale next week. The 65” was on sale earlier on in the year however they have been selling them for $499 recently at store reopenings (after store refurbishment)

    • These big, cheap TVs usually have terrible picture quality. Can anyone comment on this one?

      • No looks pretty good from where I'm sitting.

Upgraded from a Samsung 59" fhd plasma tv.

    • If it's anything like the old Kogan ones then you're spot on. Their implementation of Android made the television painful to use. Slow boot time, terrible menu structure, slow to do anything really.

  • +4

Viano is a cheap "badge engineering" name.
They haven't got the greatest reputation and its roll of the dice once the warranty expires.
Cheap? Yes. Lots of apparent features? Yes. Long term reliability?
    Dubious.

    • +3

70 inch for $1000 is basically disposable. Uncertainty around quality and longevity shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.

      • +8

"Buy it cheap, buy it twice" as the old expression goes.
Would rather spend more on a Panasonic or Sony and have a much greatly chance of it actually lasting.

        • +6

Not to mention the inbuilt environmental and ethical cost of treating something like a new TV as a 'disposable' item. As if the world doesn't have enough issues already with pollution and labour exploitation.

        • +1

you'll be spending more than twice as much to get this screen size in even a basic panasonic/sony/LG/samsung tele.

for some, its worth the risk of it not dying outside warranty to save a bundle. i always do, and it has always paid off for me…

        • +2

          @xyron:
Well its a gamble, you just have to decide if you like the equation.
It only take one failed component to bring the whole circuit down.

  • +4

Anyone know if this will do 4K at 60Hz? (ie works with Xbox One S/PS4 Pro) If so it's a steal!
    Cheers

  • I bought a Viano 42" UHD. Use it for my PS4 gaming setup. It was highly surprising at how good it was. Decent price back in the day.

Definitely would try to find one in store to play with first though

    • -1

i had the same one and thought it was awful. the worse sound i've ever heard on a tv.

  • +1

Good price, but I'm guessing it won't do Netflix 4K or other 4K playback. Playback specs listed show only H264 support and 4k streaming apps require H265. Easily fixed with a Chromecast 4k or similar.

    • +1

So just to confirm you believe that devices like Xbox One S/PS4 Pro/Chomecast Ultra etc will all output at 4K?
I've been bitten once before on a cheap 4K TV that only had 4K at 30Hz, so it was useless for everything bar a PC.

      • most games arent even 4k 60fps on consoles anyways. theyre usually just 30fps if u want 60fps monitors are way to go bc they usually have HDR as well

  • Ex bought the 55inch one on clearance a while back. I imagine it varies from model to model but I was definitely impressed with the one she got for the price.

    • +1

Is your Ex your Ex now because they should have bought a HiSense instead?

    • Await your review

    • Please tell us the refresh rate for game consoles at 4K, if you have one that is. I and many others would really appreciate it!

      • +1

        Hi Matt,

        The refresh rate is 60hertz.
The response time is 8 ms.

      Time for the short review.

Build quality is on par with the 65" Bauhn it replaced.

First startup probably took 2 minutes to boot, due to android starting. Subsequent turn ons are quick (~2 secs from pressing the remote on/off button)

Can see some slight light bleeding on each edge of the screen (short edges).

Colours are great, watched some youtube 4k 60fps vids what were great. maybe a slight stutter, but hardly noticeable.

The remotes are identical too besides branding, however the bauhn one doesnt work on the viano.

All in all im pretty impressed, i reckon its better than the aldi one, even though they are probably from the same factory.

      • Hi Heist82,

Thanks for the update. Can you please tell us if the screen is slightly matte (as the 65 inch viano) or Glossy.

I went to Waverley Garden Big W and apparently they did not have any 70 inch on display, and only 65inch.

While I was there I noticed the Polaroid 65inch was a little more glossy while the viano 65inch was a little matte.

I personally prefer matte for a computer monitor but wasn't sure if I should go for a glossy or matte TV. Glossy polaroid looked better against the matte viano for 65inch.

Can you upload some pics !

I am so torn between a 65inch or this 70inch. I was not even thinking about a 70inch before the deal came through.. !! phew .

        Thank you.

    • +2

      empty box ?

    • +4

How is this relevant? Just means the owner is a bogan for dumping the box.

      • +4

Nothing says “come steal my new TV” more than that.

      • -3

I just meant that it's probably a very budget, bad quality TV for bogans.

Maybe not the worst you could buy, but I wouldn't really consider it a bargain unless screen size is literally your only concern.

    • I saw a Sony box out on the street once. Must be a trash brand.

      solid logic you have there.

  • Upscaling quality? Would 1080p content (still the norm for many people unfortunately) display pretty well?

    • Looked pretty good in store to me today.

  • +7

Ah yes, that well-renowned brand Viano.

"Italian heritage" yeah okay, just like how Blaupunkt is a German brand…

  • I bought 55" viano 2 years ago and it had overheating problems within 1 week, kept turning off after 30 mins, returned it for an LG

  • +1

At least this one you can check in store.

I never get that people buy TVs off Aldi or Kogan without actually having checked the picture quality, menu speed etc. Depends on where your priorities lie I guess…

    • At this price point there has to be some trade offs however. Whether it’s features, functionality, looks etc

Aldi has a 60 day return policy so if it’s total crap, just return it.

  • Was waiting for a 75" for $1000… not sure how I feel about 70" though. Hrmm. Am hoping that this whole 8k push ends up lowering prices across the board. I don't really care about features like smart tv or sound etc as I run external speakers and connect up a PC… so just a half decent screen.

  • +2

Just picked up one from lilydale bigw, they had 2 left. Only just fits in the back of a big 4wd. I've had a bad run with expensive "name brand" TVs barely lasting 3 years, so the price/size/"brand" tradeoff on this 70" is pretty good.

    • +1

Do you use a decent quality surge protector?
These modern TVs can be very intolerant of surges - just takes one decent spike to take them out.

      • +2

Yep, have surge protectors on all TVs, plus UPS on two servers. Had a couple of projectors replaced too - because of bad DLP chips or something, the tech said it was a manufacturing related fault. The only TV which has lasted a while is an old samsung 42" plasma, about 8 years old, but it's painful to watch anything on it!

    • +2

So anyway, after I pickup the 70", I get back to work, and my wife sends me a picture of a 75" aldi 4K TV that she wants… reduced to $999 as well! Went and bought it, and will return the Viano to BigW this weekend. However the 75" is a huge box - beware!

      • Which Aldi was it & did they have many left?

You sound like a good (strong) husband!

      • +3

Busy day at the office if you can get time to pickup 2 massive tvs.

        • Malcolm does what Lucy says these days.

  • I have the 55” Viano and love it!

  • Anyone know the refresh rate at 4K for game consoles?

    • Looks to have HDMI 2.0 ports that support HDCP2.2 so you should be able to do 60fps

      • Doesn't mean the panel can hit that refresh rate. I have monitors with DP 1.3 and DP 1.4 and can't do 144hz even at 1080p.

  • Extra $100 off of you have or know a friend with a Woolworths discount card.

    • just get wish card, easy

      • +1

Hah yeah. $950 if you pay with wish gift cards.

        • Discount card gets you 10% off at Big W now, not 5%. Then you use the gift cards to pay, which gets the further 5% discount.

  • I emailed Viano asking them what the refresh rate and/or response time is

    • +5

      UPDATE:
      no response yet

      • +2
