    Any good?

    I currently have Apple Music

    • Same, trying out Tidal now

    • Catalogue is pretty patchy, if you don't like hiphop then the curation is non-existent and some really irritating UI 'quirks'.

    • Definitely worth a free trial but IMO the app is not as reliable/well set up as Spotify, Deezer or Apple Music, and it didn't have as much of the music I like (mostly rock) as the others.

    • +1

The catalogue certainly isn't the best, and is more limited than spotify, however if you are after very high quality music, it is worth the premium in my opinion.

I was running spotify through my stereo, and it was clear that a lot of the fidelity had been lost in the compression. Running Tidal through it is completely different. Being able to hear the nuances in the songs, and the finer details that are lost when compressed make it worthwhile to me.

With that said, there are ceratinly songs that I am missing from my catalogue on tidal that I wish were there

Good to know thanks, the premium trial only does up to 320kbps, Hifi trial (only one month) does up to 1,411kbps

        • There is no percievable difference between 320 AAC and CD quality FLAC assuming you aren't using Bluetooth.

      • Are you using Tidal Premium? Could be the placebo effect. Tidal Premium and Spotify are the same. You need to subscribe to Tidal HiFi to get CD and Master quality…

        • Sorry, just to clarify I am using the HiFi version rather than premium. It does cost about $20USD a month, however I have found it to be worthwhile as I listen to music for most of the day when in the office, and at home too

        • @RMBC:
Me too and agree it's worth it:-) Worth considering an Australian account given the exchange rate.

        • @mostlygordon: Before reading everyone's comments and the pricing I thought that I had, but clearly not given the pricing. Now to figure out how to change it

      • it was clear that a lot of the fidelity had been lost

Yes, that's what confirmation bias sounds like.

        • Sure, but back to back tests through the same equipment confirmed it too

    • OK found a free workaround to upgrade to Tidal HIFI.

Login to Tidal with App, go to settings then subscription. Should open web page.

      Go to Your Subscription.

Click upgrade to Hifi and at the top it should then say Your subscription will automatically renew 03/12/2018. You will be charged AUD23.99 from ***.

      • Ah, just keep in mind that makes your free subscription only 3 months. My subscription ends on 3/03/2019 with Premium.

        • My subscription ends on 3/03/2019 with Premium.

I prefer to try HiFi instead even only 3 months.

OP better update the deal title.

        • Oops thanks

    • I hated it compared to Spotify. The playlists are terrible and sparse and the catelogue is equally sparse.

For those of us who do not know what TIDAL does, I've taken the utmost of trouble to extensively and exhaustively search the internet for such information, and am pleased to bring the most pertinent of results to bear.

Tidal (stylized as TIDAL) is a subscription-based music streaming service that >combines lossless audio and high-definition music videos with exclusive content >and special features on music.

    You are all most welcome.

For those of us who do not know what TIDAL does

      Isn't it a washing powder?

      Band 28 ?

  • TIL Tidal plans on existing for at least 6 months?

    • That's OK, that'll save us all a click to cancel.

    When Spotify will have HiFi.

    • When Tidal starts taking their market share (unlikely).

Have been talking for sometimes but still nothing.

        • I use software like Roon that embeds Tidal. So I'm fairly locked in sadly.

        • @mostlygordon:

How is Jazz and Blues on Tidal? Enough selection like Spotify?

        • @superforever:
I mainly trawl the new Master releases. If you give me a couple of examples, I can check. Norah Jones is there, James Morrison isn't.

        • @mostlygordon:

Like B.B. King, Ray Charles, Sonny Stitt.

Any Asian songs, Taiwan, Cantonese, etc?

Can it do HiFi on PC player?

        • +1

          @superforever:
Albums B.B. King (too many to count), Ray Charles (36), Sonny Stitt(too many to count).

Any Asian songs, Taiwan, Cantonese, etc? Probably not too much.

Can it do HiFi on PC player? Yes (and MQA).

Suggest getting a 6 month Premium account and upgrading if you like it.

        • @mostlygordon:

Albums B.B. King (too many to count), Ray Charles (36), Sonny Stitt(too many to count).

Thanks worth to sign up to try.

Can it do HiFi on PC player? Yes (and MQA).

May not be able to display the bitrate on the D10, right?

        • @superforever:
It should. I've only used it on my cans, and the bitrate displays on my HA-1. Roon even does the first MQA unfold and I get 24/96 on Master tracks; probably does in the Tidal software too.

        • @mostlygordon:

OK signed up HiFi to try.

HiFi trial only for 3 months.

This hasn't expired from first time??

  • Will I notice a difference using tidal over Spotify in my car sound system streaming over Bluetooth or nah?

    • +2

I find it does in my car with HiFi, notes seem clearer and bassier

  • Terrible player on Windows keep freezing and stopped

    • +1

Works fine here. This is under Windows 10.

      • I am also on Windows 10, it will play OK but when I tried to browse around for another song, the one playing sometime it will stop in the middle and won't let me click on the play button.

  • how do we choose if it is 3 or 6 months? i did what the op said exactly and upgraded it to hi-fi.

    • +1

6 months premium or 3 months hifi

    • +1

After upgraded to HiFi it will change to 3 months.

      • oh okay thanks.

  • So there is no option to disable auto renewal now?

    • Go into account, then subscription, then click cancel my subscription. Your trial will continue until your expiry date finishes.

  • FYI I used soundizz to convert my Spotify Playlists over ..
