  • A bit lacking on the specs department. DSD sound format only ?

    • Nice find igerry. I only work down the road from the Fortitude Valley store so it was more viable for me just to go into the store.

  • It's that or FLAC these days. For an in depth explanation into the two, https://samplerateconverter.com/educational/dsd-vs-flac is an interesting read. If you're an after a more simplified summary, https://dsd-guide.com/why-high-resolution-audio-flac-or-dsd#….

I just prefer the way DSD sounds I guess.

    • mp3 is worth trying out for pop

Can I connect this to my Pixel 2 XL using a USB-C to USB adapter? And will it work?

I was planning on purchasing a Fiio Q1 Mark II for $150, but just saw this, would appreciate a reply. Thank you.

    • On their Q&A, it says it's supported with an Apple Certified Camera Kit (Lightning etc to USB) and a 5v power source (as not to drain the phones battery)
      m-audio.com/kb/article/1987#iOS

Not too sure if it'll work with your setup though. Isn't there already a DAC in the cable that came with your Pixel 2? You're probably best with just an amp and not an amp/dac combo? Or try a USB-C OTG cable?

Just a word of caution though, when I plugged it into my Macbook Pro, worked straight away. Had to download drivers for my Windows machine.

      • This comes with a built in AMP that supports up to 600Ohm headphones, just not mentioned in the OP. And it's a big upgrade on the DAC that comes with the dongle on the Pixel 2 XL. The only worrying part, is if you needed drivers for Windows, who knows if it will be plug and play with the Pixel 2 XL. I'm calling Store DJ in Perth, if they have a model available to test, I'll test it, if it works I'll purchase it.

But if anyone can answer that it works with certainty, then I'll get it.

    • The Fiio is a better design for portable, are you looking to use on the go?

      • Not necessarily, I know that's the advantage with the Fiio. But I plan to use this in bed to watch Netflix with headphones on my phone.

Overkill on audio and underkill on video (due to screen size). Lets not discuss audio compression from video streaming services. lol.

Looks like a great deal though.

        • @justtoreply: lol wot haha the Fiio is not a DAP

  • +1

    absolutely no distortion

Conventional implementation of DSD has an intrinsic high distortion.

    • I can only provide from what I experienced.

  • can i connect this to my pc?
would this go well with hd650?

    • +1

Yes. You'll have to download drivers from http://m-audio.com/support/drivers

The Sennheisers HD650 are 300 ohms from memory, so this will drive them well.

    • Would like to know that as well. I was searching on Aliexpress for a DAC/AMP that is capable of DSD.

      • I use Foobar2000 for DSD.

        • I use foobar2000 as well. Would like to know if it can decode FLAC and WAV files

        • @Gau: Man…if only iPhone had a great FLAC player. VOX was the holy grail until many features were paywalled.

        • @Gau:
I think he meant if the M-Audio Transit Pro decodes FLAC. PCM is WAV?

          Foobar codes pretty much anything.

      • The xduoo xd-05 is a good choice.

Will this work for Spotify -> HD 6XX

    • +1

It works with YouTube to my headphones so I can't see why not :)

  • this + magni 3 or oppo ha 2se?

    • This has plenty of power to drive up to 600 ohms.

      • It's an amp as well?

Also not quite. Ohm capability isn't everything particularly if you use AKGs

  • Ooh, have been looking at portable DAC's today, is this mostly for use with desktop PC's and not for mobile use?

Trying to find one that would work on a PS4 too!

    • You can hook up a USB DAC to the PS4 these days??

    • I think it may have difficulty working PS4 as it requires dedicated drivers for Windows, but as another person said above it's plug & play into their Mac, no drivers. So your mileage may vary with the PS4.

    • I’m more inclined to say they’re more suited for desktop use as they can be USB powered. You can buy an optional power adapter to use with portable devices.

  • How would this pair with the Hifiman HE400i headphones?

    • +1

They’re like 32 ohms. So it falls in between the 16-600 ohms requirements :)

That's the $70 Transit they're talking about, this is the $350 transit pro. Different products.

Edit: Just to let you know, I left it in checkout because of this comment, spent 15 minutes researching your comment only to realise you posted a thread about the wrong product because I couldn't find anyone else saying this uses cheap components, and now the deal is expired and it's out of stock everywhere and it won't let me process the order anymore.

      • Darn hey. Keep an eye on their store. They may restock. Plus some others have been posting slightly cheaper ones.

Yeah. The bad reviews were for the original Transit which were released in 2008. The Transit Pros came out towards the end of 2015. Plenty of time to up their game :)

        • -1

I haven't seen a DAC/AMP drop to this value in a long time from such a high original price. I just called their Perth store again, spoke to the same guy, he said I still have the 2 in stock, but I cannot sell them because the entire product has been taken down from the website. Just like when we click on the link up there now, it just doesn't show the product. So they've probably been ordered already.

So my guess is, even if they get new stock, they won't be on special anymore. And I doubt they'll get new stock because this was probably a clearance sale on a really good product going for an absolute bargain. So congrats to whoever got them in time. I should have just f***ing checked out with it and not checked back on the comments.

          @POL1T1CS:

That’s sucks. Have you consider the open box of the Mayflower Objective 2 for $169? Not so much of a discount, but another great amp/dac on special on the site. Plus it’s more portable as it comes with two rechargeable batteries.

          https://www.storedj.com.au/open-box-mayflower-black-objectiv…

        • @Gau:

At that price I'll probably go back to what I originally intended on getting which is the Fiio Q1 Mark II. Thanks, I'll keep checking around, hopefully some drops in the next week or two.

        • +1

          @POL1T1CS:

Just to be clear… you've got butt hurt because of your own indecision and then missing out on a bargain because you weren't quick enough.

Yeah someone posted some wrong information, but blaming them for your missed bargain is unfair.

You do your own due diligence and once happy you buy. If you comprehended the linked article as written, it's quite obvious they are talking about a difference product.

I get you're angry that you've missed a good bargain- but going on a rant and blaming someone else for your indecision isn't fair.

Give a neg to his comment and move on!

        • sorry, read further down thread

I find this equally as annoying as someone who has no clue about what they're saying like the user "no not me" a few comments below, and yet still provide wrong information with the conviction and absolute certainty in their BS.

    • Missed out on the DJ Store, and saved some more $$ as well.. Thanks.

      • Damn I missed on this one now too :(

Got a call from Manny's today. The nice gentleman informed me the ebay system glitched and didn't update the listing as 'out of stock' when inventory ran out. They offered a full refund or a second option being a similar discount like the ebay code on another similar item from their store. Took the refund, but very nice of them to offer the second option. Definitely gonna keep a lookout for deals from Manny's again

Edit: Manufacturer discontinued product, so no more incoming stock.

Note: this comment is not meant to detract from OP's deal.

    • Boom. 8 sold in one hour. The power of ozbargain.

  • +2

Dumb question but if you play just a normal MP3 through this, will it enhance the quality?

    • -7

No, it won’t. These things are BS anyway, they’re basically a meme. Many acknowledge that they perform equally the same as something like an iPhone DAC ($10, found in a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter). Others disagree. I’m more inclined to side with the former, as companies like Samsung and Apple have multi billion dollar R&D budgets and can probably engineer something equally as good as some small company at a fraction of the cost (due to scale of units sold, bargaining power, etc.)

      • +6

How so? This can drive 600ohm headphones. Good luck doing that off a lightning cable.

        • Lol. The lightning dongle could barely drive my Senny IE80 :)

        Hahaha, no.

These things are legit. You have no idea what you're talking about.

      • iPhone's Dac's wen't to shit after iphone 4….

        • Would be nice if Apple included the Quad DAC that LG uses in their G and V series phones.

    • +2

These will help if you’re after more power, clarity and volume. However, in saying that, your music is only as good as it’s encoded. Things like this will probably make your music sound even worse. I tend to rip my music at a minimum of 320kbps. Anything below that, it’s gonna sound crud.

  • Link not working and out of stock ebay?

  • What happened to the link? Also the ebay link says out of stock. Bummer!

  • +2

will this make my porn sound better?

    • +2

Yep! I can't just use the amp in my phone anymore, always need a high-end rig for fapping!

eww that's disgusting. i watch porn for it's high quality narratives, exquisite camera work and oscar winning acting only.

Can anyone comment on the fiiO K1? is worth it?

I'm just trying to power two m-audio studio speakers off my laptop via 3.5mm adapter.

Did anyone else receive a call that the order is cancelled?

    • Yep. Apparently they only had 10 in stock, and it "was put up on some bargainhunters.com website"…
      (profanity)!

Edit: I'm actually really disappointed, I was looking forward to this! What are you getting instead?

      • Yeah I was quite disappointed as well, but at least the guy called and explained and tried to find me a similar deal. Hopefully we'll get some similar deals soon, meanwhile I'm still quite happy with my fiio e17

        • +1

That's what I have right now as well lol

  • Has anyone received one? Would like to know on how they stack up against Fiio, Oppo and Chord's lineup?
