ALDI Scanning Error Only Discovered Yesterday

So earlier this month, I was debating whether I buy these three

4 stroke petrol lawn edger (31cc full crank engine) $189
4 stroke petrol brush cutter/line trimmer (31cc full crank engine) $179
4 stroke blower vac (24.5cc full crank engine) $169

Infact I had created this post

I went ahead and bought the three

going through my bills yesterday, was shocked to see the person had scanned
3 x blower vacs $507
1 x brush cutter/ line trimmer $179

so while I bought the above three, I was charged for four items, effectively costing me $149 extra

I've checked and double checked at home, no sign of an extra blower vac or anything extra
I know I should have done my due diligence, and checked before leaving

But now how do I prove to them that I paid for four items, whereas I only took home three
Anyone with a similar experience? Would they have CCTV footage for me to prove my case?
Would they be able to run a stock check?
thanks

UPDATE:
called aldi customer service- they said it should not be an issue to get a refund
went to my local aldi store- explained situation to manager
showed him a printout of my original post detailing what I wanted to buy
money refunded!

they did not even bother checking CCTV footage.

  • So earlier this month

Your thread was created the 9th. It's now literally the last day of the month.

When did you actually go in and buy them? Go talk to them ASAP because their CCTV's recordings might be on a fortnightly cycle.

You’re gonna hear this a lot.
    But have you called Aldi?

    • +20

Oh, (profanity) right off… That's crazy talk… Why would one actually call the store to check before making a post?

      • +5

Except you can't call individual stores

      • +1

The only phone number ALDI provides is their national Customer Service Number, 13 ALDI (13 25 34).

        • I have called them about a store, they followed up with the manager and were very good.

The forums would be dead without all these stupid questions.

      • He probably meant call in person?

  • +5

Go in and ask to talk to a manager, be nice and explain it, he can either go through cctv or check stock whether they have an extra one.

      sounds like a plan, ta

Most people will not check there receipts,it's not that often they give you to much money back, awhile back I handed over a 100 buck bill at McDonald's,went to pay for something and I realised they short changed me,lucky I put the receipt in my pocket with the change, still had to drive out of my way back to the store, hang around for the cameras to be checked, yep your right here's your change,it even said I gave them 50 on the receipt,No apologies but shit happens…

If it was me spending >$500, I would have definitely noticed the over-payment by that amount.

    • +4

If it was you it would have never happened in the first place, because God smiles on you GG57.
You're one of his special children :)

Aldi storeperson is staring at 2 blower boxes: "Computer says we don't have any of these"
Manager is frantically searching video footage trying to work out how someone snuck out of the shop with a lawn-edger because the computer says there is one on stock, but none in the shop.

Take a photo of the three items at home (with boxes/manuals etc if you still have them), then go back to Aldi and see what they say.

Pays to take notice of the total amount and check your receipt doesn't it?

  • surely you had an idea of the total being ~510 not ~680 at the checkout.

    • actually in my mind it was roughly close to 200 each, so $600 was my rough calculation
math not my strong point sadly :)

      • your only hope is cctv, ring em and check. shame as were good deals

  • +2

So you took the lawn edger without paying for it.

    • -1

you took the lawn edger without paying for it.

Eh how did you get to that conclusion?

      • Have you got a receipt for a lawn edger?

        • No, actually I don't:)
Thought it was pretty clear in the original post :)

        • +1

@docians: I think you are being messed with.

  • +1

since you’re a good contributor il try and help

If you paid by cc then a charge back should do the trick

    • -2

I'm sure OP did not pay by credit card because of the 0.5% surcharge. Ozbargainers use only EFTPOS or cash at ALDI.

      • +1

Actually I did pay by cc as I thought the surcharge was worth the extra year's warranty.

Silly Q but what is a chargeback, and would it work three weeks later?

    • I don't think a charge back would work… Op can't prove any of what he is saying

  • +1

A chargeback is a reversal of a charge on a credit or debit card. You do it through your bank. You normally have up to 120 days after the transaction, if applicable, of course.

Don't do one until you've had a chat with the store Manager though. It gives them a chance to correct any possible error without the hassles.

  • It's not strange that you didn't check your reciept. Go in and talk to them. Call head office. Posting on Ozbargain is not gonna help though

  • ALDI problems: I found out that their TAP AND GO is only set to recognize "all cards" as CREDIT CARDS I only have a DEBIT CARD and I am receiving CREDIT CARD FEES,also the DEBIT CARD push button also comes up as CREDIT CARD transaction,I have lived in the area and shopping at Aldi for the past 8 yrs and I am now wondering just how much they have been ripping me off with CREDIT CARD fees when I have not had a CREDIT CARD for over 10 yrs,has anybody else in or been the same position, all I can say is to check your your dockets to make sure you have or are not being ripped off also, our local Aldi is in Conder ACT,I shop also at the local Woolies,Paper shop and any other shops in the local mall and their TAP and GO and am not charged any fees,it is only Aldi down here that is doing it,look at your transaction receipt before you leave the store, could you imagine just how much added income Aldi would be dragging in to their bank balance with these illegal fees even just in this store alone which is a very busy store.

    • Tap is literally credit tho, that's how it works. AFAIK Aldi has signs everywhere that paying with any card is like an extra 1%.

    • It's not relevant if it's credit or debit, if you tap you get the fee. Not just aldi, it's all shops, it's the merchant charging the fees, not the store.
If you want to avoid the fees, insert card, select cheque or savings.
