  • These were on sale recently for $20 from OO, or $25 from aother online seller, cant remember the name, and this one also has the $100000 warrenty.

    • still available? where? i want one

    • for the more expensive ones, all the extra cost is an insurance premium. the cheaper boards don't come with insurance. in many cases the insurance is quite restricted (do you have to nominate the appliances in advance to be covered by the insurance?). read the insurance terms & conditions thoroughly. it is probably equivalent to all the other cheap boards but with insurance.

      • I don't think focusing on the potential "gotchas" in T&Cs is as sensible a rule of thumb as it's cracked up to be - on this basis you probably wouldn't buy any insurance, or do many other things (e.g. installing the latest Adobe Flash update).

Buyer feedback is probably going to be more valuable in a case like this. The experiences I've read about claiming on the Belkin warranty over the years have been largely positive. I've seen almost zero feedback for the other brands though (can recall reading only one report from a user who tried claiming on a DSE surge protector warranty - I believe it was successful), so they're more of a gamble.

  • These arent bad. You can often get them as a bonus with Norton Anti-Virus or similar products at DSE.

  • I seriously hate this product. I had this so called "Surge Interceptor" and it was seriously a piece of junk.

The red switch on the board was actually setting off my house safety switch. Thinking it would be good to use on my PC, and then use the switch to turn everything off. Well turns out it wasn't a great idea, as the house safety switch was triggered. With the power going off, it ended up causing issues with our Freezer, and meant we lost a lot of food.

Trying to get a refund from DSE was a nightmare, and was an experience I didn't appreciate and to this day refuse to deal with that particular store.

    Don't bother buying it.

  • I've had one of these for about a year, I know it was definitely at a lower price than this (can't remember exactly but in the $30s)

  • I found one in a skip behind a DSE.

plugged it in and it seems to work. hae been using it for 4 years as the "master switch" for my computer/stereo/lamp/fan in my study.

i just find it handy as it has 8 sockets and one switch.

as a surge protector? don't know. don't care.

    • I found one in a skip behind a DSE.

      lol nice, that's the spirit

      • i've never tried dumpster diving. i'll put it on my list of things to do before i die!

the best i've scored is a circa-1982 dick smith wizard game console + games in a kerbside collection. i also got 2 playstation 1s :)

  • I have this board for a few years now and I have only had 1 problem where the fault light came on. More than likely it may have been a surge. Went to the DSE store, showed them my receipt, then they exchanged on the spot no problems. This new one is still going strong.

Because this has the insurance guarantee I would buy from a proper store rather than cheaply online. If something does go wrong its easier to claim, you just got to read the fine print if I remember correctly you cant have extension cords connected to the device or something like that.
