    LOL….really?

  • 1.8 Metre A to B USB 2.0 - Printer Cable AUD1.3 shipped from ebay.com.au

  • Using DSE as price comparison is a load of crap.

They are a major retailer. and it's on their website and in-store at that price, I am just stating facts. Not sure what you mean? :)

  • All the pictures on the main deals page fail to load. That's because you've linked to https, and the pictures are from http - thus my web browser classes them as insecure and won't load them.

I suggest that you change the link in the original post to the plain http address.

Also, do you REALLY think anybody is dumb enough to believe that the normal price for a USB cable is $19.95 and that you are giving a 95% discount? That is the biggest crock of shit I have read for a long time.

The quoted discounts (under Trade Practices) need to be from YOUR normal retail price.

    • Unfortunately, many of these fly-by-night stores are not familiar with the Trade Practices Act…

Please do not post untrue comments. We have major backing and give excellent customer service.. You comment has no foundation. We are here for the Long Term. Please note that we have Normally: Price which is a normal retail price and our Price which is a discounted importer price. We never sell them at normal retail prices but we have every right to compare to other major retailers current listed prices under the Trade Practices Act

          ummm… no….

Examples of false or misleading representations

Whether a representation is considered false or misleading will depend on the circumstances of each case. A representation that misleads one group of consumers may not necessarily mislead another group.

Some examples of false or misleading representations include:

          • a jewellery store promoting that a watch 'was' $200 and is 'now' $100 when the store never sold the watch for $200

          http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/960084

seems a pretty clear cut case of misleading advertising to me…

        • Jv is well within his rights to suspect a fly by night operation. I street viewed your business address on the website(which you've removed) last time you listed on here and it appeared to be a house with some old banged up Commodores out the front. That is enough to raise an eyebrow in most people.

  • Hey Buddy, We compared to their prices as we have never sold for that price. I understand your point but it unfortunately is not relevant in this case. If you don't like the price at 98 cents, what can we do? :)

    • Hey Buddy, We compared to their prices as we have never sold for that price.

The ACCC site says you aren't allowed to do that… Theu call it "false or misleading representations"

by the way, I'm not your buddy…

      what can we do?

Stop making false claims on your advertising…

    • jv, your example of the Jewellery Store is a good one for the point you are trying to make however it does not apply in this case. "Was" is not the same as "Normally". "Was" implies that we were selling at that price previously (like your example of the Jewellery Store) and we never made or make that claim. In addition, we specifically use "Normally" as opposed to "RRP" as these days RRP doesn't seem to mean that much; you will find different RRP's, for the same product, in numerous locations/Stores. For the record, as a company, we are well versed in all aspects of Fair Trading, and the Laws associated with it so you need not worry about us EVER using any Misleading Advertising. Thanks for your concern. :)

'was' and 'normally' have exactly the same meaning in this context…

        http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/4972/tradepractices.jpg

I don't SAVE $19… I can buy the same product elsewhere for a similar if not cheaper price…

Unless you have dropped your price, you cannot claim that i am saving money by deceptive price comparisons…

On your website, it says "don't pay $19.98 (here)" with "here" being a link to Dick Smith Electronics.

To be clearer, you could write "don't pay $19.98 (at Dick Smith Electronics)".

It'd probably help prevent any confusion.

Note: I'm not moderating this thread; I'll leave it to other moderators, as I've bought from this business.

But that said, the OP should add to the title "+ shipping". We have businesses here that when they don't say "+ shipping" are not charging any extra for shipping.

I bought one of their powerboards before, so I'll comment as a customer.

The term "fly by night" has connotations of a shady business which would seem unfounded.

They first advertised here just over a month ago, and registered their abn back in November last year, so they are new and some people are wary of new businesses.

      My experience of them:
      - I did contact them for help with an order and found them friendly and helpful
      - the order was processed without a problem
      - their website seems pretty basic, but it works
      - they did not have Paypal, at last check; being a new business, people might prefer the availability of Paypal so they don't have to worry as much

      My experience of the powerboard:
      - I'm happy with it; it works
      - the switches light up when they are on (easier to see at night that something is still powered)
      - the switches have tiny arrows next to them, indicating which plug they control; I've used a silver pen to make the side more obvious

      • Thank you for your comments - some really good feedback there!

In fact, many of the things you raise here are in fact being addressed during the build of our NEW Website - Due in a few weeks (We Hope! LOL).

Important to mention re: PayPal - We Launched with PayPal and used them quite successfully for the first month however, when we added ANZ eGate to our Payment Gateway PayPal stopped working!?? We will sort this out with the New Website and will have them back "On-Line" ASAP! We agree with you, PayPal does give some people a strong feeling of Security!! :)

  • lol i just remembered why i never shop at dick smith. $20 for a usb cable! roflmao! what a rip off! $2 as msy. no wonder woolworths always post record profits. i'm sure some suckers buy them at that price as well.

the price comparison between the poster's product and dick smith's product seems a bit misleading. you can't call it the SAME cable unless it actually is a dse-branded cable. it could be called a SIMILAR cable.

  • no paypal payment method?

  • +3

Interesting how people nitpicking on how they advertised, but not commenting on the price itself….. Isn't it more constructive if we commented on if the usb cable is a bargain or not?

    • That's because there's no real bargain here. Brandless USB wires are a dime-a-dozen in most PC discount shops; the exact same surge protector I bought for same price from "small fish" (aka. regular price) COTD.
To nitpick even further - their site:
"Do the Products come with a Warranty?
All Products come with their Original Manufacturers Warranty; including Warranty Term. "
But their advertisements are not specifying the brands so how can buyer know Warranty Terms prior to purchage?
So, the only interest this deal deserves is the seller's BS. Oh, yeah, and I am sure now that they've been told off on OzBargain, they're gonna mend their ways and improve.

      • Not even sure what to say to that ? :) Our USB Wires are actually branded "ARISTA" but we have been told not to mention the brand. Our PowerBoard is also a well know "ARISTA BRANDED" power board that sells for over $39 elsewhere: http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/p_4928_Arista_PB852K_8Way_S…. It is not the same as COTD is selling.

Our HDMI Cables are selling for $19 on Deals Direct (EXACT CABLE), Please check: http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/p/arista-premium-hdmi-hdmi-cab…

Nonetheles, I am not sure what we may be told off for, as our customers are all happy.
I invite you to try us before you knock us unfairly. We are here for the long run and value your feedback.

Please give us a fair go as that is the Australia Way and we are an Australian company. :)

  • People whinge for the sake whinging.

Quite simply eSOLD sell a few items quite cheap. If you can buy these products cheaper elsewhere then why waste your time commenting here, go buy them cheaper. Even flag the post negative and show us the cheaper item?

I couldn't care if the USB cable said "normal price $1000.00" the bottom line is the price is 98c. Branded or not if you expect what you paid for you cannot be disappointed.

    • If you buy one cable only, it's $2.97 (including shipping)

If you buy more cables (and nothing else), the price approaches $2.00 a cable.
