No i'm pretty sure i spelled it correctly.

      • yes you are correct. my apologies. i wasn't trying to correct the spelling. i was just referring to the company and the sad state it's network is apparently in at the moment. they need to offer much bigger discounts than that to get me interested.

I think they have purposely avoided including the term "Phone" to avoid any misconception that they are a telecommunication provider.

      • I tip my hat to you, sir! ROFLMFAO!!! :)

A friend of mine just ordered the Optimus from Next Mobile, it comes unlocked. $179.

  • Android 1.6

I'm not sure of the limitations on that ver, any user input guys?

It can be upgraded to Android 2.1 through the LG software. The phone is pretty good value considering the price, but the touchscreen is not hugely accurate if you have large fingers.

      • I was thinking for my GF.
Not a fan of the resistive touch screen though, just feels too ugly.

        • The screen could be better, but for this price I think it is pretty good. Accuracy improves if you remove the factory fitted "screen protector" (which is quite unnecessary).

  • It's an "okay" phone. The touchscreen is resistive (therefore not multi-touch), which may be a deal breaker for most people because you can't pinch to zoom on webpages or Google Maps.

    • Can you double tap to zoom?

      • It depends on the application but on Gmaps and Opera Mobile you can.

          Thanks for that.
I though I'd ask as I've found a lot of phones that don't support or sometimes actually disable double tap…

I have Opera on my N8, love it.

      • Yes

  • Oh that was the other thing…
Can you save maps or at least device downloaded maps on the phone to avoid contently re-downloading maps? That and to still be able to use GPS if you can't get a network signal.

    • With the latest version (v5) of Google Maps, offline maps can now be stored on the cache. Not sure how big the cache size is but on mine it's 100MB.

Whenever you plan a route the map data is cached locally, so if the network goes down you are still able to navigate on the stored data. If you veer off course, the application can still use the map data for re-routing.

      • Good enough! As long as she can store Canberra on it she's happy.
I use my N8 for our big trips.

        • The best nav maps i've seen for Android phones is this one (Co Pilot Live) http://www.alk.com/copilot/#
Gives you the entire Australian and NZ maps at your fingertips with no screwing around with net downloads.

Sorry, cant find AU or NZ maps with that link. Just North America :/

  • I think I;'d still prefer the Huawei Ideos, apart from it's lower screen resolution and smaller screen, it beats the Optimus handily in other features.
I highly recommend you play with a resistive screen device before laying down cash for this phone.. I find them extremely annoying!
