Officeworks Price Beat Guarantee: Now Includes Parallel/Grey Imports From Stores Without Local Warranty

20470

Hey guys!

Officeworks has decided that it will now be accepting Price-beats from stores with greystock, while previously it was only stores with Australian manufacturing warranty. It seems the store still needs to have a .com.au URL but we can now Price-beat with Dwi Kogan Becextech ect.

The change went through yesterday.

Mod Notes:

(1) The info above "It seems the store still needs to have a .com.au URL" is TBA, the policy does not specificially mention this. We'll update as information comes to hand, your experience may vary depending on store/understanding. Australian stores with imported stock like Kogan or Catch are more likely to succeed than overseas stores, although in some cases overseas stores have .com.au domains and local stores with imports stock have .com domains. Currently Officeworks policy does not mention store eligibility anyway, experiences likely to vary.

(2) Further info on the exact change below, from discussions.

Old Policy:

Our guarantee applies to all identical products and services with identical warranties that are:

stocked at Officeworks
in stock at our competitor; and
not excluded from the PBG (see below).

New Policy:

Our guarantee applies to all identical products and services that are:

Stocked at Officeworks
In stock at our competitors and
Not excluded from the PBG (see below)

'with identical warranties' is now removed from the policy.

(3) Why is this a deal? Purchase an item locally with manufacturer warranty and consumer law protection for the price of a grey import without manufacturer warranty and not protected by Australian consumer law. Not identical items in value (our guidelines refer to 'same product') and a general deal rather than for a specific item. Marked as long running deal.

      • I actually don't know of too many grey import sellers who also sell AU stock. And if they do sell AU stock, it will be more expensive already.

Bought a Huawei nova 3e from GG a few days ago at $399. Now at officeworks at $375. Submitted a claim with GG, got $28.80 in store credit within minutes. Would not have checked OW without this deal. Thanks OP!

    • Glad I could help :)

    • +1

How is that related to this price match deal? People voting plus for unrelated deals.

  • +1

This is great, thanks OP! Price matched a Kogan item today no problems.

    • +1

Doesn't have the .au url but it would still be worth calling 1300 OFFICE number to see if they allow it on order.

      • It has the /au same as if you go to Apple au website you will see only /au instead of .au

        • Kogan has /au at the end as well

        • @tight-ass:

Really?? Well price matching just got harder then…

        • +3

          @KaptnKaos:
ATM Kogan is definitely fine to price-beat so it looks like the .com.au is not a hard rule

    • +1

let us know how u go ty

  • Any samsung S9 deal?

  • I'd rather buy from OW rather than Kogan/DS any day, so this could be useful to me…

    • +1

Yep, it’s a no brainer for me.

  • My only price beat experience few years ago with OW was not pleasing at all.

Asked for a price beat on an external hard drive at OW Joondalup while it was not on discount in store.
The staff went away and come back to me after around 5 minutes saying the price was updated in their computer system and refuse to price beat.

At that time if OW awared a competitive price that would influence them, they should adjust it in store instantly. I told the staff the way they refuse the price beat was too dodgy then I left.

After that, I never shop with OW unless I need some stationary in urgent

    • I have used price beat a couple of times at different stores but my experience was different to yours. Got it done without any issues.

    • +3

would be quicker and easier for you to call in their central services, price beat and select store to pick up.

I find the staffs' willingness to price beat vary from store to store, and I find that their central service is more accomodating.

  • I don't shop much @ OW, what would you pick up from there to make this new condition beneficial?

    • +1

OP put in some examples: Dwi Kogan Becextech

Reasons that you would pick up from OW is: (1) no need to wait for days (if not weeks) (2) less likely to have box slightly damaged (3) Apple / Samsung less likely to whinge about grey imports and reduce the warranty period (4) proper money back guarantee within 14? days

It will still depend on the staff to decide whether to honour this or play dumb and continue to use existing rules.

      • 3 points per dollar on your AMEX Plat Edge too

  • OfficeWorks website is not working for me at the moment, anyone with the same issue?

    • Yeah seems like it's down for me too.

    Wow over 1300 upvotes!

    • I know right! I can't remember the last time i saw this many up votes.

  • -2

    Do they price match Ebay?

  • @OP or any OW Employee

Do you think Office works will price match this - https://www.amazon.com/Fitbit-Smartwatch-Silver-Aluminium-In…

  • -5

All these stores may move items to .com from .com.au to avoid OW price beat
OW should have included .com domain for stores that own .com.au domain as well

    • I doubt they'll do that somehow. And OW didn't say anything about the tld needing to be .com.au

  • What's the highest number of upvotes for a posted deal I wonder…this must be right up there.

  • great

  • Can't up vote, but thank you OP!
    Bring in the competition!

  • +2

finally OW are in real competition now! Good post op, soon I will be seeing more OzBargainers come to Officeworks with their phones on hand and arguing the new price match policy ;)

Just here to comment on the upvotes. Never seen it in my life here.

Congrats on your first post 1234 . Over 1500 likes for first ever post . Awesome!!

    • +1

Yes, a huge achievement, and almost certainly Deal Of The Month..

      • Does it have enough traction to beat 2560 though? :)

        • +2

It'd be soothing if this had stopped at 1440. :)

        • eBay has a more universal appeal and that one had a specific discount, but this one may hit 2000.

        • +1

It's already a record for a first post?

    • +2

      Thanks!

Time to buy a new phone from Officeworks.

    • +4

Their range of Android phones is pretty pathetic.

  • If only they had a better headphone selection

  • +12

What I have been told by my store manager is that regardless of warranty, we will match imports as long as it's the same product. The rest stays the same.

He didn't mention anything about Australian websites although it makes sense that it would be through Australian vendors that are importing the items as previously mentioned.

Just thought I'd chime in and tell you all what I've been told. I was also told that we don't tell customers, however I knew it would pop up here haha.

  • I wonder if this is to counteract the common excuse I found for declining the price match - not the same return policy if change your mind or faulty?

  • +2

Just had a chat to them regarding a phone at Kogan, accessible via kogan.com.au.
They declined the pricematch because it was a direct import from HK.
OW advised that the item has to be stock in Australia

  • Will Officeworks price beat eBay as well?

  • I went to Officeworks Northmead 2151 today with the vision of purchasing a samsung galaxy s8. Tried to match kogan and bexextech but left emptihanded because the assistant refused to match these stores as they did not offer manufacturers warranty. does anyone know the cheapest aus stock with manufacturers warranty :')

    • What's probably happened is the news hasn't gotten out to all the people working here. My managers haven't informed me yet of the change, but I'll be sure to ask them about it next shift.

You'd be best off contacting head office on the 1300-OFFICE number, they probably have a better idea of what's going on with new policy, and should be able to match it without much hassles. I haven't personally tried it myself, but by looking at this thread it looks like a few people have done it with relative ease.

      • would it be possible to price match this product to the 64gb s8 at officeworks once managers have a clear idea about the change to policy? https://www.becextech.com.au/catalog/sams8dual64gblk-prt-p-8…

        thanks for your assistance!

        • TBH I'm not too sure about that one. From what I've read on this forum post I would probably just put it through for you, but it it's a dual sim being a different model it technically might be exempt. Again, I haven't been briefed by my manager as to what I can or can't match regarding this sort of thing, but give head office a call and they will know for certain.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you.

  • Thank you for your post , price matched with shopping square , 50% discount ow price $34 got it for $16

  • Highest ever plus post?

  • +1

My question is is the manager ever trained properly? Why are they so inconsistent between stores? It's not like they're the franchisee right?

    • Yes, it's not as if it's coming out of their own wallets. They don't care if they make a sale or not.

  • I don't understand this post, is doesn't say anywhere it can be a grey import. and it still says "Not excluded from the PBG (see below)"

  • +1

This deal is off the charts
    https://i.imgur.com/55LDVS5.png

    • Very impressive.

      • The amount of products at actual bargain prices are though.

  • +7

Just a quick update, incase no one has posted it yet. An internal post yesterday stated, products need to be:
    - In stock (add to cart and checkout)
    - identical model and specs, brand new,
    - and Australian deliverable (price in $AUD including delivery costs).

Other exclusions still apply such as: cashback offers and coupon codes.

    • Can it be direct import or does it have to be in stock in Australia?

      • When I called OW HQ they informed me that a direct import does not qualify. Had to be physically in stock in Australia.

      • In stock (add to cart and checkout)

So… like show them the checkout out page? Can it be a screenshot?

      • The salesperson will verify themselves that the item can be added to cart and processed in checkout.

    • +1

If it's identical, it can't be a grey import surely

      • Why not? There are many grey import products that are identical to local products.

        • +1

It depends how pedantic they get. eg. anything mains powered, or with power supply, might be out on a technicality if the import doesn't have an AU plug.

But even then there would still be plenty of imports identical to local.

        • +1

If it's identical it wouldn't be a grey import.

      • +1

What are you studying? Woolies should totally snap you up.

          Life is quite average.

        • @Hogg: civil engineering. hahaha that'd be great lol

        • +1

          @Savas:

Nice mate, huge respect for engineers. Your math skills are something to be admired.

  • Does this work on online orders?

I have no OW near me for an hour radius well honestly no major shops besides Bunnings hehe lol.

But if they can price match some online stuff for delivery then this might be useful for me if I need a new printer or printer ink or maybe some new headset or something.

    • Yes you can call 1300 OFFICE (633 423) and price match over the phone, delivery will be free over $55, otherwise $5 additional I believe.

      • Free delivery over $55? and only $5 delivery for under $55? Are you sure about this? this seems too good to be true.

Normally delivery starts at around $7 from my experience unless it is ebay free postage.

        • https://www.officeworks.com.au/information/policies/delivery… You can enter your postcode to find out delivery charges.

I went into an OW store on Friday night and confirmed it does not need to be from a ".com.au" address, as long as the model number is the same you can then price match.

    • +4

nice what did you price match?

    • as long as the model number is the same you can then price match.

Its always been that way though.

    • Cañ I ask which store it was ? Might help us..Thanks
