  • Hardly have room for one let alone ten!

Is this a bulk purchase or sumfin'?

    • What are you talking about?

      • +2

He made a joke because the code is "GET10"….

  • +1

Here's the features and specs that Good Guys left out. https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/home_theatre_…

    • Why do the HDMI outputs/inputs all have "X" above it?

  • Also no HDR pass-through.

    • All yes according to the spec.

4K Ultra HD Pass-through and upscaling
      4K Ultra HD Pass-through
      HDMI 3D passthrough
      HDMI Audio Return Channel
      HDMI upscaling
      Deep Colour/x.v.Colour/24Hz Refresh Rate /Auto Lip-Sync

    • +1

Yes, it does, I have it.

      • Is it no DTS-HD master decoding?

        • It has DTS-HD Master Audio.

        • @Dave Id:

OK doesn't said that in the details spec.
          https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/home_theatre_…

What is the model of the AV receiver itself?

        • @superforever:

Don't think it has, you could if the player has internal decoding pass the signal through as PCM.

          Receiver model is HTR2071.

        • @Scab:

Seem so, all the spec I found online doesn't say DTS-HD

        • +3

          @superforever:

It's been known as DTS for 15 years.

The AVR is known under two different model numbers. Go ask on WingePool,if it's important to you. Say "Hello" to the crew from "Monte" :)

Anyone actually purchasing would be well advised to confirm before purchasing, instead of taking any notice of an old coot like me who has obviously lost the plot after purchasing their own gear
          since 1963 :)

        • @Dave Id:

Very confusing from what I searched, no spec said support DTS-HD but some forum some people said it does support.

          @Scab:

Since @Scab own it may be he can confirm.

        • @Dave Id:

          Thanks for the neg.

          Buggered if I'll help anymore.

        • +2

          @superforever:

          Dave was right.

It supports DtS HD, using it now.

The master bit threw me, but it definetly supports DtS.

        • +1

          @Dave Id:

Have a plus, you were right.

        • @Scab:

          Thanks

BTW, his neg was not me :)

Have a plus and have a nice day.

Great price, bought this when first released and paid $450.

    • +1

This is an excellent deal for someone's first 5.1 system.

Grab a BluRay player that takes FLAC on a USB stick (or hook up your PC), a PVR and you are laughing.

      Slowly upgrade your speakers.

      Jack's your Aunty :)

      • Is this a legit economic strategy? Or would you be better off waiting for a deal with better speakers in the deal?

        • Depends on how much money you want to spend.

When moving from integrated amps to AVRs,I purchased a Pioneer VSX923 which still takes pride of place with Aaron ATS-5 fronts and center, and Wharfedale AT-500 rears. Have an inexpensive sub woofer. If the chickens stop laying and the cows dry up,don't wanna get the blame.

Asking price on that lot was ~ $5K at the time. Throw in a projector, etc, etc. Around 9 grand.

    • Agreed. I paid around $390 and it's a great setup.

  • I just bought the rx-v385 and this looks identical in spec:

    RXV-V385: https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/av_receivers_…

    YHT1840 - https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/home_theatre_…

Is there something I'm missing? Seems like the YHT1840 is the same price and comes with speakers as well!

    • +1

That's been going on for years.

In the RX-V385 specs, you will see Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio.

    • +1

1840 doesn't have usb and firmware can't be updated.

    • I think they're identical units but the 1840 doesn't have the front panel aux input + Bluetooth populated.
That's the only difference I can find, if you look at the front sides that area on the right on 1840 is just blocked using a plastic.

  • I have those 5 speakers to sell on gumtree last month, no one wants it

  • Aarrgghh. Just paid $398 last week from them. Haven't even finish setting it up yet

    • Price guarantee?

      • Can I still claim it although the period of discounted price is expired. I don't have any experience with the price guarantee scheme

        • Sorry no idea, the deal expired anyway.
