Fairly decent to use as a second monitor or just as a cheap 144Hz option for PC gaming.

Other Random Tidbits
  • Has inbuilt 2W speakers but I would not recommend them to be used as your primary audio device over something like headphones when watching media or playing games. It's simply good to have if you're just watching a uni course and don't want to have to wear headphones just to listen to someone talk about maths.
  • There's a "GamePlus" mode which does potentially have a useful tweak for FPS players. There's an option to have crosshairs overlayed above whatever game you're playing. Some find it more distracting however others say it noticeably helps them with quickscoping.
  • It does support Nvidia 3d Vision if you really want to use it as a 3D display. (IMO more of a gimmick but I don't judge anyone that genuinely enjoys using it or simply wants to try it out because they can).

  • 2013 called - they want their list prices back.

    • still, the best value if you only looking or 144/tn/1080p/24"
which is the ideal spec for competitive fps monitor.
this is definitely one of good entry level monitor you will stick around for quite a while.

  • What's the diff between 60hz and zis

    • 60Hz can only display a max of 60 frames per second - any more and the monitor simply won't display the extra frames. 144Hz allows much higher framerates to be viewed.

    • +2

Unfortunately its one of those things that you can only truly understand the difference of when you see it for yourself.

Essentially a 144Hz display will show motion significantly smoother when compared to 60Hz. However you still need a GPU capable of rendering a game to 144 FPS to actually gain the full benefit of the display.

A great tool you could use to compare the difference of 30 FPS vs 60 FPS on your own monitor is on this site: https://www.testufo.com

Heres a couple videos which kinda help with understanding the difference in terms of 'smoothness'. You should still try to see one in person before you go out and spend upwards of $1k on a high end 144Hz display.

Just a word of warning, many people find it hard to go back to 60 FPS after experiencing 144+.

    • many says you can notice the difference in responsiveness between 60 vs 75hz, even on desktop let alone gaming

      • +1

The difference between 30, 60 and 144hz is day and night. The first time I enabled 144hz even moving your mouse along the desktop felt different

    • If you're a gamer, especially competitive first person shooters, you'll be able to see properly when flicking between targets, rather than everything going blurry and your eyes having to reaquire targets / reorient yourself every time you quickly change direction.

Do you game? What do you play?

In more plain terms, it makes the image feel "always there" and "always well defined" even when you are moving the view around quickly. Leads to better immersion, the virtual world feels more permanent and less like a simulation.

    • turn on 30hz on your display, you know the difference, and it is more dramatic than that.

but with that said, from a hardcore fps gamer perspective, it is only worth the money if fps is your priority gaming and you serious about it….

      TN and 1080p really suck.

  • I bought one of these early last year. If you buy one make sure to change over the colour profiles because out of the box the colours are washed out and really disappointing

  • -1

I went from 70hz to 144hz, I game and I honestly can't tell the difference. I don't deny there is a difference, but I just don't get the butter smooth experience everyone else notices. I guess I just need to go back to a 60hz screen and see.

    • +2

Are you sure you've correctly set your windows to output in 144hz?

      • Second this, I had a mate that paid an embarrasingly high price for an alienware gaming monitor and played at 60fps for over a year thinking he was at 144hz.
You’ll have to activate it in your NVIDIA settings to see the result, in my experience they default at 60hz out of the box.

    • +1

If you've gotten used to 144hz going back down is definitely more noticeable than going up from 60hz to 144hz.

      • This exactly. First going from 60 to 144 was pretty average…I could tell the difference but it seemed negligible. The other week after playing counter-strike for a year at 144hz I had to play at 60hz and it made me physically sick. Like motion sickness or something from it being so choppy. I had to stop playing.

        • I'd die.
I went from 75hz to 60, wasn't so bad until I launched CSGO which is one of my most played games of all time and holy shit the 15hz difference gave me cancer, I can't imagine how bad it is when you go from 144 to 60. I just got my 144hz monitor and wow it's a dream.

    • +2

You sure you're actually outputting at 144hz?

    • heavily depends on the game. i doubt any moba or mmo type will feel as huge as fps

    • Mate are you sure you aren't getting old
I literally noticed the difference the second I moved my mouse cursor and scrolled in my browser…

  • +3

This is a very capable and very cheap 144Hz Monitor. However, you get what you pay for. It's performance is quite poor, so if you are considering this as a primary "Gaming" monitor I'd look at spending a bit more.

These reddit threads sum the issues up nicely:
    https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/5iysr4/why_all_th…
    https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/7jstd7/pro_tip_do…
    https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/61v6pc/is_an_asus…

    The closest alternatives/competitors are (24"/1080p/144Hz):
    No G-Sync:
    BenQ XL2430 $400

    With G-Sync:
    Acer XB241H $550
    Asus PG248Q $600

Anything more than $600 and you might as well start looking at 27"/1440p/144Hz (Which is a story for another time).

    Just my 2c.

    • Hey, do you have any monitors you'd recommend that are 27"/1440p/144Hz?
      If I want a 27" 144Hz monitor, should I go for 1080p or 1440?

      • really depends on your budget/ your current rig/ your upgrade path.

and 1440p144 need a good horse to power it.

      • Once you get to 27", 1080p content starts to look "blurry" as the pixels are so enlarged/blown up.
In my opinion, I would suggest going 27"/1440p as the image looks crisper/sharper.

        I've been considering:
        - AOC AG271QG $750

The prices just go upwards from there…. Decent 27" Monitors aren't cheap, it's just the price you pay (IPS, G-Sync and 144Hz Tax).

        You'd also need a minimum of a 1060 6GB or a 1070 to make it worth-while.

I'd steer clear of the Dell SG2417DG and the SG2716DG. Whist they are cheaper, many people have had issues with colour-banding on them (Google "Dell SG2716DG Color Banding).

        Hope that help.

and tons of Korean monitors which i have no idea how to get in Australia….

    good alternative.
