I have bought this Toshiba 16 gb usb key recently from eBay and it was fake, be very careful here!

    • Did it work?
What was the real memory capacity?
      What were the transfer speeds?
      Were they as advertised @..
      Read Speed = Up to 18 MBytes/s
      Write Speed = Up to 4.5 MBytes/s?

HIGHLY unlikely that Videopro will sell fake products, you can't tar all ebay sellers with the same brush….

        • +2

With respect this product is highly unlikely to be fake, if it is you will have no problems getting your money back. Its fair enough to cry fake on ebay auctions from smaller operations but a retail outlet with 6 stores??

        • +2

You do realize eBay is not just 1 store, right? Just because you bought a fake item off eBay, doesn't mean every time it's listed on eBay it will be fake. You do know that, yeh?

        • +3

Normally I'd agree with you, I'd be very reluctant to buy any flash memory on ebay, but this is a bit of a different story…Videopro often have deals on OzB, they're a legit business with a B&M store in QLD AFAIK.

As others have said, there's quite a few legit stores (LTS etc) with storefronts on ebay as well as the dodgy ones; it just opens up a whole new marketplace for them with very low overheads! ;)

        • +2

Yep, Videopro is a legit store
they have one near where i live

    • The best thing you can do is buy it, and straight away test it out. Fill up the drive, and make sure the files still work. Do a lot of testing, if it fails you will get your money straight back once you complain.

Look at the feedback, the guy has sold a lot of stuff, and some of it expensive (>$150). Why would he ruin his rep.

    • +3

You do realise this company has several brick and mortar stores? Videopro have previously had bargains on ozbargains, and if you really are paranoid, you can pay $7 extra direct from thier online store:

      http://www.videopro.com.au/p-3043-toshiba-u2m016g-16gb-usb-d…

This is no fake people, do your research before you start criticizing.

    • Not to say that this is bodgy, it could be a legit one but I've bought a toshiba 16gb thumbdrive similar looking to this one from another vendor before at a decent price and it was only good for about 4gb before files started to get corrupt or the memory module would just fail and require a reformat (which is a pain in the a$$ to do), i eventually gave up and binned it.

      • +1

It's a pain in the ass to reformat a USB thumb drive?

  • -5

no it did not work, it had capacity of less then 500mg, just beware!

    • +5

Less than 500 milligrams, that is bad!

Did you buy yours from this seller or from some dude from hong kong with a new account?

      • +1

500mg? we are talking about USB drive here not MSG flavouring powder….

    • +1

      500mg? fail whale

    • you don't even know the unit used to measure it's capacity and you're telling us you got a fake stick. get a clue ffs!

      • +1

I think some of you guys are jumping on a typo a bit hard! It's not hard for a touch typist to hit 'g' instead of 'b', one key is almost directly under the other after all…et voila, guess what is a measurement of capacity! Mega-ma-bytes!!! :p

        • +1

to be fair, if he wasn't making such a generalised statement, than the responses would probably not be so bad.

        • @tomsco,

It doesn't look like a generalised statement, it's actually a poorly threaded reply to Naga.Thai's questions:

          Did it work?
What was the real memory capacity?

Being fair isn't coming in 7.5hrs after the comment & hammering the guy for a typo that has already been ridiculed by three others up until 3hrs previously…yeah he is likely wrong about this unit, but a typo doesn't invalidate his experiences with his own! Fair's, fair!

        • Situation: vegimate states that because he bought a fake USB drive off ebay that therefore the one sold by VideoPro is likely to be fake.

I'm not neccesarily saying that lazed's response is fair, just that if vegimate hadn't made the comment about this stick from VideoPro being fake than lazed wouldn't have left such a harsh comment.

        • tomsco pretty much sums it up. vegi's 'warnings' against buying anything from Ebay are baseless & uninformed and turned away at least one potential buyer from this deal, therefore a stern reply is in order. Although the deal sold out, his comments have potentially turned away many people from getting good deals in the future via Australian sellers on Ebay.

        • While I agree with your comments about vegimate, if it's a good deal you should vote positively just saying.

      • -2

I have more usb keys then you have teeth in your mouth so…

        • Now THAT'S something to be proud of.

        • +2

Is that something to be proud of?? Why would you possibly need over 30 USB drives.. do you buy one everytime Gerry sends you a 'sale' catalogue ??

I have bought it in Australia from an Aussie seller and got my money back, watch seller feedback in coming weeks

    • thank you! was going to buy it.

    • But from THIS Aussie seller?

  • Did you even buy it from this seller, seriously vegimate.

  • Big W have 16Gb (I think the brand is Lexar?) on clearance or special for $12

    • Do you have a link Kammo?

      • I'm fairly sure it was 16GB, original price was $30+. GBs arranged by shelf rows at Macquarie Centre Big W. One basket on the shelf of 16GB USB keys was marked for $12 but none left.

        • wait another year and the 256GB USBs will be around the price of 32GB USBs now

      • I got 8gb for $7.50 on clearance last week.

  • +1

easy dude, the listing has ended…

  • +1

Write speed up to 4.5MB/s, too slow for me.

    • Yeah, I am so not waiting over 3.5 minutes to transfer one episode. The Kingston I have does it in 1 minute.

  • +1

Just got mine today. They sent me a 4GB usb. Did anyone else have this problem.
