    Display res: 480x800 px (4.0")
    512MB RAM
    900 850 2100 HSPA+
    1300.0 MHz (4-core)

in case anyone is wondering what the specs are like.

    • Thanks mate :)

    • 850 2100 3g

    • Ow… not enough RAM for Pokemon Go.

  • +1

Price needs to be $2.90 for it to be a deal.

    • Nah, these make phone calls and txt just fine.

Also a great alternative to a standalone dongle\modem.

      • +1

Wouldn't recommend using as a broadband modem - only 3G+ (900 2100 HSPA+). Dedicated 4G modems with data sell for same price or less on sale.

Surely most people have an older phone lying around (or ask someone who has) - just for simple calls & txt.

But free unlock, if frequencies suit other Telcos.

      • I assume it would also be fine as a controller for WIFI/BT stuff around the place? Would like to have a standalone rather than always having my phone in the bedroom.

        • If it has enough space to install all the apps you want, sure.

I have a 4GB phone Huawei, but after installing Google Play service and some other core functionality, you're left with less than 200MB of space to install. Actually maybe even less depending on the amount of carrier bloat is on it.

You can probably find some ROMS floating around on the internet and flash it to clear it up I suppose.

        • Memory limitation, lag, & responsiveness of screen can be issues on cheapies. Find reviews (may be difficult), otherwise unknown until you try. You don't want crashes with a restart while controlling things.

I've used free locked Vodafone phones with similar memory limit for control (on WiFi & Bluetooth) - responsiveness of screen & lag are occasionally annoying. But they were free from a Woolies deal.

        • Yeah, it's just for controlling lights, air purifiers, spotify, and so on.

        • @Mic Cullen:

Really you can actually cull a lot of the system from Android if you know how, otherwise I wouldn't suggest you trying this.
Also it can be a bit hit and miss tmwhen cleaning up a phone of all the unnecessary parts.

      • No they wont make cals and texts fine.

Such misconception with low end phones. U rather get a dumbfone than these even if youre just texting or phonecall.

The lag will make u mis type.

The lag will make u miss phone calls becuase you cant swipe to answer in time.

The lag will make your msg app force close after typing half a message.

        Just no.

In my experience, that is an unwarranted misconception about quite a few cheapies.

What you wrote is a reason people give for not buying cheap phones. But have they used a good sub-$100 phone?
For some it justifies spending so much more on what they really want - there's no status or latest tech in cheapies😉 But this is OzBargain.

Strange I have never experienced those problem with 4 cheapies over quite a few years.
          ($25-79 eg $40 Huawei Y550 in 2015, $79 Huawei Ascend G526 in 2014 - still used daily for calls txt & backup)
It's not the price, but the quality of the phone that matters for basic use.

I almost always post from a phone. With over 10,000 (long!) comments posted on OzBargain from those cheap phones, they haven't let me down! Ha cent seen the lag you say are in all cheapies. That's a pretty good work out for cheapies!! Never had problems you describe. Calls & txt worked great.

Only upgraded to a fairly cheap ($138) phone for much more storage & features. Replaced cheapie Y550 wrecked at beach last year, but at that price… That's an advantage of cheapies👍

Some phones would be crap like the free Vodafone model I commented on above (no problem with calls or txt), but some expensive models have also been failures…

I always sought advice from OzBargain before buying. But this unknown one with minimal memory… No thanks.

        • Dug out the earlier 2 cheapies:
          $25 (after points & rebate) Android4 3.5” 800MHz Huawei Ascend Y201 in 2013

Posted about it on OzBargain using the ancient tech Android2.2 2.8" 528MHz. cheapie Huawei Ideos X1 from 2011.

Both still working for calls & txt! Have tried to use browser - but can't update or not worth it.

  • Upvoted because it has a replaceable battery, plus surely this is better than the Nokia 3310 for the same price.
Not sure if it has a notification led.

  • +2

I'm not gonna pretend it's not a shit phone, but in a pinch, it would let you make calls and send texts while your actual phone is getting fixed or while you're looking for a proper replacement.

Mind you I have like a hundred "backup" phones floating around, including my personal favorite, the LG L40 I bought two of for 9 bucks each at Big W moooonths back, one of which is entirely used by my 2 year old to watch ABC Kids.

Anyway, I'm upvoting, if someone desperately needed a phone, and came to OzBargain looking for a cheap option, this would suffice, and that's the whole point isn't it?

  • Can i use Aldi prepaid plan with this phone?

  • Is this one the same as that Lite Smart advertised in Coles and Woolies catalogue this week?

    • +1

      Yes it is the same.

      • Thanks!

        • You'r welcome. These comes with $10 credit as well. FYI

        • @Being Askhole: Lucky I checked with Telstra before buying. I would've thought this handset would work with Aldi as they uses Telstra network but apparently unlocking is required and it comes with fee of $80 for 6 months old or lower handset.

        • @tempura: I asked customer care 125 8880 and they say $25 unlocking fees for this phone

        • @Being Askhole: $25 unlocking fee for a $29 phone. Makes sense in some universe, I guess.

        • +1

@Mic Cullen: Yeah not good if want to use other providers :(
