Listening to mine right now! Love them.. I paid a grand for the 3050 and happy with them for that price. They aren’t flagship though, that goes to the concept 500 ($6299 pair). Also keep in mind these have been updated to the 3050i recently. For this price they are a steal and best value around! And I’ve had great experience with selby too.

  • Top buy even at full price, so good deal.

Would it be crazy to buy 4 and use as surround as well ?

    • Yes, get the Cambridge Audio Minx Min 22s for surrounds.

      • Do you know any good deal for Min22s?

        • Nope.

    • +1

I think a better choice would be to buy 1 pair of these and a pair of bookcase speakers with stands for the rear. The QA 3010s at $299/pair would fit this role perfectly - any speaker stand would suffice.

Can a audiophile please tell me, how does this compare with Bose 300 with sub woofer?!

While Bose make some great portable Bluetooth speakers and noise-cancelling headphones, they are unfortunately overpriced and underperforming when it comes to home theatre.

      • While Bose is popular for the noise-cancelling part of their headphones, the SQ itself is said to be lacklustre

    • I’d go the Bose for general TV and movies. Or this one for more of a proper home theatre experience and/or music enjoyment. But you’ll need a centre channel and a receiver, these are just speakers whereas the Bose is more a self contained solution….. anyone answering on brand name alone is probably sending you up the wrong tree, they are very different products.

Bose are for the moronic masses who buy the dazzling advertising and posh sounding name, but who haven't otherwise actually have a clue about audio. I liken bose speakers as being room size in ear phones.

Q Acoustics 3050 are entry level audiophile speakers.

      • The posh sounding name of an Indian electrical engineer? I’ve never seen a Bose advert in my life.

      • You can't deny that the QC 35 are exceptional. But you can however say they're overpriced. It's kinda like apple, great specs, retarded price tag

    • Bro my Beats by Dre sound fully sickkkkk

    • You may find that you like the presentation of the Bose better with its strong mid range emphasis. But, you'll get more accurate sound with these. Just don't buy them until you've had a listen

Paradigm all the way for me. Period!

  • Wow, just realised that this is for a pair. Great deal

Would buy these in an instant if they came in walnut or graphite!

Update: caved in and bought them anyway lol

        That escalated quickly!

      Gonna buy some graphite paint?

  • Would these make good surround speakers (like rear left and right)? I already have the 2020i Q Acoustic Bookshelf speakers and the 3090c centre speaker. Any advice would really appreciated.

    • +5

I’m not deeply familiar with the products but on face value I’d be using (this deal) as the front speakers and moving the bookshelf speakers to be the surround. I do get what you mean though, these being “on stands” are physically practical as rear speakers. I guess there is no harm!

    • Agree with LoopyLou; these ones as your fronts, 2020i for rears on speaker stands. Q Acoustics do/did make stands for the 2020is I think.

      • The other thing I was thinking was keep what he has as-is and maybe just add a subwoofer. It might just be me but I’m not really into the whole 1993 “woah surrround sound” thing. I’d just rather good sound.

        Thoughts flufflyduck?

        • Perhaps you're right LoopyLou. I already have a sub-woofer as well in the mix and its sounds good.

The only issue I always struggle with is that the dialog in movies isn't loud enough compared to the rest of the audio and I find my self playing with the volume all the time. Maybe I should concentrate on the receiver settings.

          @TommyGun:

Yep I’m the same. For all the dumping on Bose they do a great job of automatically balancing the dialogue.

Some things you can try though (you probably know this)

          *Night mode or compression mode
          *Turning up the centre channel

        • @TommyGun:

I wish I could fix this on just a regular TV speakers. So tired of music/effects being so loud and dialogue is just mumbled.

        • +1

A little bit late but anyway. Agree with the general consensus of playing with receiver settings eg night mode/compression, center channel, my Yamaha AV receiver you can turn up dialogue too, connect directly to the receiver and not to use the receiver DSP\Surround sound modes.

I actually have a similar setup to TommyGun same center, but the 3010s and a decent sub and I don't have dialogue issues normally. However depending on the source (why I suggest plugging say PS\XBOX etc directly to AV receiver) it can go from 3.1 setup to 2.1 losing the center channel, you can then use DSP\Surround sound modes but can cause issues ie. dialogue.

This is my first 'real' AV setup (did a lot of research and listening at a few showrooms too) coming from various soundbars and while my system does sound quiet a bit better (especially for music) it did take a bit of mucking around with settings. If I had the room in my smallish living room I would have jumped on these speakers for my system in a heartbeat! Pretty impressed overall with Q Acoustics speakers, their Subs not so much lol.

I have always used Dire Straights'Brothers In Arms album to test drive speakers. Surprised to see it used in an actual review by audio people. I wish I had room for these, but my very thin Sony AV towers barely fit.

  • Had these along with the matching centre and 3010 surrounds for a couple years, they're excellent speakers.

  • +1

    Yes, there's a new range coming: https://www.qacoustics.co.uk/q3000i-range#intro

I haven't heard the new ones yet, but the 3050 won a heap of awards when they first came out, and they sound fantastic to me.

At this price? More than worth it!

  • I have these as front speakers, I recommend them.

  • +1

I've got some.. 2020i's, I think it is. Not all that fussed on them. Overhyped I think.

Edit: and do research before buying the sub. The 2070 subwoofer was known for flaking out after a certain amount of time (provided it was plugged into mains power, but regardless if/how it was used). The problem was not user serviceable either. No idea if that's still an issue in the 3070 or not.

Worth an upgrade from Jamo S426 HCS3? Mainly gaming and movies.

  • Is this better than Elac UB5 bookshelf?

    • Depending on the AMP you use, Elac needs a good power amp.

For the price, this is probably better, and after a couple days of having only them in your home, you won't even think about anything else.

  • Been looking around for a good sound system.
Any advice on what amplifier (entry/mid) that will match with this?

I dont have a sound system right now.. but really keen on having one.😊
