Asus AMD Radeon RX 570 Expedition OC 4GB Graphics Card $220 Shipped from Tech Mall eBay

1780
PINGED

The lowest historical price seen on Ozbargain for a Radeon RX 570. The previous best price was $232.75.

If you've been holding out on a video card for 3-4 years but you still have a very tight budget, this card performs close to a GTX 1060 (either 3GB or 6GB, each costing either $280~350) only losing out by a very close margin of 10 to 15 percent… but with a price differential this large, this is arguably far better value.

I've benchmarked the card against a factory OC MSI GTX 1060 6GB Gaming-X and you can see the results here in DX11 and DirectX 12 here

Great description OP - both for the price of the card, as well as the performance.

    • +13

Agreed. This is what people should strive to achieve description wise.

A round of applause for OP.

      No jokes.

  • got mine from last deal. they gave me a different one …. https://imgur.com/a/wl2ChnP
well the pic in original deal is wrong. so technically the correct one…

    • Mine looks like yours. There are no red racing stripes across the shroud. It did however, have the glowing ASUS Logo on the side though.

        • that's right. We both have the Strix version, which looks cooler. Not sure if it performs cooler 🤔.

        • Huh, isn't strix the better card though? confused why they'd send you a better card by mistake.

        • @scrimshaw: under load its like 63c……i have open air case….(i dont have one….).. 1500mhz core, and 2k mhz at mem, OCed.

        • @Lolno234: What's probably going on is that ASUS released their "expedition" branding of cards when nvidia started doing their GPP shenanigans meaning that ROG would have Geforce exclusivity.

Asus probably doesn't make the expedition cards anymore, or at least are fading them out now that they're allowed to produce ROG ones for AMD again.

    • Same thing for me. Ordered the ASUS Expedition version, and received the ASUS STRIX version. Clearly a different product, however the same GPU. Cooling and other features didn't worry me so I didn't worry about it

  • Performance compared to 1050ti?

  • Upvote for deal and description.

  • Hi, OP, is there any good deal for GTX 1080Ti? also I just noticed, there is postage applied to 1070ti but not to 1070 for ebay plus, why?
    Thanks

    • +2

Deal for 1080 Ti? Not that I can see. It costs $1 grand for this Inno3D model.

I would suggest waiting 2 more weeks for the new 1180 / 2180 graphics cards announcement from Nvidia and see what happens to the price?

there is postage applied to 1070ti but not to 1070 for ebay plus, why?

I'm not a computer shop salesperson. Can't answer that question.

      • Thanks so much, Cheers

      • +1

New cards coming very soon. Hold on 2 weeks. Wouldn't be surprised if the 1180 is faster than a 1080ti ala old 980ti when 10 series arrived. Prices will plummet.

  • +5

Looks like these play nice on MacOS for anyone thinking of dumping one in a Hackintosh or an eGPU.

  • +8

Thanks again OP. Your helpful description outling the value of this deal, as well as links to performance comparison pushed me to buy. I can FINALLY replace my FIVE year old GPU in my desktop. Crypto miners had me holding off for so long.

    • +2

I don't think you'll regret it. As far as I can see this is a fantastic GPU for the price; and I don't expect that you'll get a better deal than this for quite a while (could be wrong)… … I'm thinking it's a bad time to buy a high-end GPU as you can wait for the next gen announcements; but these lower-end cards won't move as much.

      • Yeah, the reviews I quickly looked at all had me sold. Huge jump in performance over what I'm currently running.

        • What was your old GPU? I'm using a GTX 580 and have a 1440p screen.

          Dying to play GTA V

    • +2

I can now ditch my 5770 finally. Fallout 4 at last! I can hear angels singing.

  • can someone please suggest a good low profile card for a
Dell Optiplex 990 SFF. only requirement is it has to support 4K video and don't need a 1050ti.

    would this work: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gigabyte-GeForce-GT-1030-Low-Pro…

can this do 4k video? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Asus-nVidia-GeForce-GT-710-2GB-S…

    • I actually have an rx 580 running in the 990, all i had to do was cut away a section of the side panel, 3d printed a cover for the side. Even if you can't print a cover it would be worth it over the extra cost/performance hit of a low profile.

Will buy when I get home tonight if it’s still in stock. Thanks OP.

finally this is selling close to AMD's RRP…

  • I've still got an old AMD HD 6850, would this be a significant upgrade?

    • +1

      Yes

    • +1

300% upgrade mate, go for it!

      • Thanks, wonder if it needs an 6-pin or 8-pin power connector. Think my old build only supports 6-pin.

  • +1

    300% upgrade on a 6850. Cheap as chips 2

  • +1

Anyone know what the AMD drivers like on linux?

    • Honestly probably better then Nvidia since the guy gave the finger to them on video haha

    • AMD has support for MAC OSX so I imagine they do for linux too, just my guess.

    • +4

I'm running Fedora 28 (Kernel 4.17.12-200) with an RX480 and they are working fine using the default in-kernel. Steam works great with Flatpak and so far I've not had any issues with the games I've played. I believe that the 4.17 kernel had a number of improvements added by AMD so if you're on Ubuntu you might want to check out Ukuu and install the latest update.

      OpenGL details if you're interested.

      OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon (TM) RX 480 Graphics (POLARIS10 / DRM 3.25.0 / 4.17.12-200.fc28.x86_64, LLVM 6.0.0)
OpenGL core profile version string: 4.5 (Core Profile) Mesa 18.0.5
OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 4.50

      • Nice nice, i'm still on 4.15 kernel so ill have to get the newest kernel. do you know if there was any improvements on the nvidia side?

    • +1

Here's a fairly recent test comparing Windows 10 and Linux performance for both Nvidia and AMD high end and midrange graphics cards.

      they have driver for linux

  • Would it be compatible with my XPS 8700 (Mid 2013) as a replacement for my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750Ti 2GB DDR5 which is kaput?

  • I own a GTX 950 that's nearing 3 years old. However, I'm not really into PC Gaming anywhere as much as I was before. But I am studying for a career in animation and may get involved with work using the Unreal Engine. Should I bite the bullet with this one?

  • +2

Umart has this for $239 normal price or $236.55 at PC Byte on ebay with 5% off. The RRP of $275 is inflated here.

  • For those maybe looking at a 1050ti this 570 would be a better deal.

$220 delivered is very nice indeed. ($249 in ITX form at MSY)

Versus a 3gb 1060 - the 570 isn’t “better” unless in the circumstances where the extra 1gb vram would come into play. Pascal has Polaris beat all ends up.. My experience in real world and benchmarking in-game usually has a 3GB 1060 about 10-15% infront.

YMMV of course :-) for $220 you cannot go wrong

  • Doesn't seem to be much of an upgrade over the R9 290X?

  • +1

Got this in the previous ebay sale 2 weeks ago for $235 and its a beast for the price. Gets 144+ frames easily in overwatch and rainbow 6, paired with 8400. TBH most people are CPU limited with older intel 4 cores, no sense getting anything higher tier than 470/480/1060 if you are focusing on competitive titles @ 144hz.

    • i am doing it with my macbook pro(bootcamp) (7240U i think, it is 2core 4 Thread 3.6ghz trash) external gpu. and i can tell the cpu is 100%.

i am just thinking getting 8400 to pair with it. how does that cpu go? is it the perfect choice ?

      • Why not the Ryzen version of it? Its going for such a good price
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/395878

        • Yeh I'd vouch for the ryzen at that price, same performance in current gen games + better multitaking performance. Picked up the 8400 for $250 so I'm still happy. Both proccesors are powerhouses even compared to 4 core 4 thread i5s.

Only downside with this card is you will need to upgrade in 2-3 years to retain similar frames as games optimizations tends to plummet rapidly these days, dunno if its to do with the frequency of patches and stuff?

  • Tempted, my GPU finally went kaput from overheating toomuch (R9 290x) so i haven't been able to get my nightly game fix, feels like I'm going through some sort of metamorphosis… 1180 just around the corner, almost there stay strong…

    • +1

you still wont be able to buy it , since you are look at this gpu….the 1180 is in a different league….and it is probably expensive af

  • +1

    Cheers OP,
Finally upgrading from my 7850 (had a gtx 780 die on me) so this should be a nice little step up. :)

    • I have this GPU aswell !! 7850 ATI 1GB

  • How does this compare to the rx 580 8GB? I can't find the 8GB to compare to

  • Been running an RX470 a friend sold me cheap for over a year. Essentially identical performance to the 570.

Solid card for the price. 1080p60fps gaming with some compromises for more demanding games.

  • I'm still using the Gigabyte Super Overclock 680 and this card still runs all the latest games without working a sweat. Settings to High since i think I need over 2gig to run some games at Ultra. At least that's what some game says.

  • I currently have the AMD Sapphire Radeon HD7970 3GB OC, would this be a worthwhile upgrade for newer games as I was considering a 1060 6b but is more than double the price. want something to keep me going for a few more years.

Comparison suggests it would be a big improvement but for how long for newer games?

    http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Radeon-HD-7970M-vs-…

    • +1

You've compared the wrong GPU. 7970M is a mobile graphics card, so the better comparison here

Going by DX11 bench the graphics scores are 30 percent higher.

Direct X12 performance sees a very big jump, 50% increase in scores.

So it's not a very huge bump in performance for DX11 titles but the 7970 needs a lot more power. The 7970 pulls 300 watts while the RX570 hits 200 watts at peak. That's a 33% difference in energy usage (and also heat output)

If you're worried about not being able to play the latest games, then perhaps wait a month or so and see if the new Nvidia's will force the higher end RX Vega cards down. Something like an Vega 56 for e.g is a good upgrade.

      • The 7970 is still a good card. I haven’t found a game that doesn’t run or is dead slow yet. I will be keeping mine for several more years.

    • on a 7970 myself i am waiting for the next gen GTX card it took AMD 3 years to fight back the 1080.

vega was not what it should of been.

that is what we get. raja team got 1/3 taken away from him to build the ps5.

  • Thank you OP. Just bought my first ever GPU tonight :)

    • Why did you buy this? Isnt Umart detailed above much better deal?

      • Only if you are interested in those games

        • so sell the games and make potentially $60-90 for all 3.. lowers the cost of buying the GPU.

        • @gizmomelb:
True but selling game codes is always risky Business, once buyer redeems they can pretend it didn't work.

  • anyone know how this would handle 2x 30" monitors? ie. 2x 2560x1600

1 via dvi, 1 via hdmi?

    • It would be fine for that.

  • Would this work with Dell OptiPlex 9010?

    • the default power supply for the 9010 may not have enough capacity to power the GPU, also it may not have the correct power cable 'spare' for the GPU.

    • You're going to need a 8-pin PCIE power plug to juice the card. Unfortunately the dell business machines typically don't have a PSU that powerful.

The video cards that most people have been buying are either GT1030's (very weak card you should avoid), GTX 1050 (costs $150) and GTX 1050 Ti ($200+). These cards do not require supplementary PCIE power cabling.

I have contacted Techmall on ebay and they said they will provide a voucher for the AMD Raise the Game promotion after purchase.

    • +2

      excellent. I'll update the post.

    • even a better deal wow

  • Shame this doesn't fit my case :( http://www.jonsbo.com/en/products_24_1.html

  • Bought one coz the missus won't let me spend more getting a better one. I guess it'll do given I rarely have the time to game. I'm surprised by how pricey these aged cards still are.

    Thanks for the post OP

  • all gone :(

    • Damn missed out ! Procrastination wins!
Was figuring out if building a new system is good at this time!
Probably wait a few more months and prices might actually stabilise..esp for RAM and GPUs

  • +1
  • Back in stock..but $3.20 more after discount and $14.95 shipping for non eBay Plus

  • Does RX 570 go well with my current old i5-3750k (stock clockspeed) and 8GB ram?

    • Yes, very well. I have a 3570 nonK no overclocks and 8GB, RX 570 is a perfect card for it.

      • any CPU bottleneck? what games do you normally play?

        • Mostly FPS. Bit of RPG like Tomb Raider and Dark Soul. No strategy games.

The only bottleneck would be in Nintendo Wii U emulation, having a new generation CPU with 4ghz+ clocks really helps with emulation speed.

The deal is now over, but at $220 it's really the best choice for anyone that hasn't upgraded in a while and has an older 4+ year old rig like Sandy / IVB.

I also have scores for GTX 1060 + Core i5 3570. you can compare it to my Ryzen system and see how it stacks up against the the RX570.
