  • Is the charging cable a detachable ICEc7?

  • free delivery on order over $49, so needs another $1.20 spend ?

  • Trawling the webs to find a replacement charger for my Xiaomi Laptop Pro..Has anyone used this charger for that laptop?

    • There are some origianl Xiaomi power adapter sold on AliExpress, that is better suit for your laptop.

      • I hate having to adapt that charger, wish there was an alternative.

Wonder if I should try this charger, I know it won't be as fast but it should charge.

      • Awesome, thankyou!

          https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-premium-80w-5-port-usb-ch…

Highly recommend this as an alternative. It outputs 45W via USB C, which is more than the Anker one. It charges my Xiaomi Air 13.3 laptop but not sure if it can charge the Mi Notebook Pro.

        • @JD6750:
Looks good! I don't get how it's pre-order/pre-sale when it's already been sold… unfortunately I'd need it before the date it starts shipping.

        • @JD6750:
Cheers! - It's close - though the Mi Notebook Pro draws down 65W via USB-C

      • xiaomi don't do AU pins on ANY of their products, so this would need a travel adapter.

        • do they make CN plugs? I just turn them upside down.

    • -1

Look into Cygnett, they have a 65w usb pd charger im using, it's compact, standards compliant and safe.

Be careful with unbranded chinese goods, you could fry your laptop.

      • You mean this one?

        • Yep that's the one I have. Also sorry, it's 60W not 65W.

      • +3

Cygnett is really not a better brand compared with Anker.

        • Right, but this Anker is 30W, which is not fast enough for a laptop. I was also not referring to Anker in my original post, but rather the generic type-c chargers on ebay/aliexpress.

        • @raven2000: Yeah I know it's only 30w, but the point is this supports several devices at one time and 30w could be enough for a slow charge to most 13 inch laptops and it is the typical use case for most travellers I guess (at least for me xD)

But obviously I would be happier if Anker could release one multiple charge ports with a single USB-C which provides more than 45w to my MBP.

    • I have a Zero lemon version, also 60w,ajd it charged my (non-TB) Macbook Pro just fine at full speed.

Just keep in mind that it the power output is 60w total, which means that if you're also using all 5 usb-A ports you'll only be getting about 40w from the USB-C PD port. It'll charge your Xiaomi laptop just fine, regardless.

Good find. Bought a few of these Nektek ones before the Harvey Norman tax for a similar price: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0712252ZQ/ref=oh_aui_deta…

The Anker has an extra USB A port.

    • How were those and how do they compare apart from the extra usb port?

      • +20

Good news, I found a rebadged version of the Nektek on Amazon.au:

        https://www.amazon.com.au/Charger-Delivery-Station-MacBook-B…

        $39.99 delivered with Amazon Prime.
I received mine last week and it has been performing well. My MacBook reports 60w charging using the charger's PD port. Twice that of OP's charger, so you can use intensive programs and it'll still charge.

I was thinking of making an ozb post about it but it's not on sale. Still a bargain compared to alternatives.

I also purchased this usb-c cable for it:
        https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/aw/d/B01M3XKIVK/ref=ya_aw_od_pi…
Which I'm pretty sure is the same as this one recommend by Benson:
        https://bensonapproved.com/usb-type-c-to-type-c-cables/

$12.66 via Prime. It's the gold one, same brand, just not gold. It claims it can do up to 100w charging. And again it is not on sale, but a bargain compared to alternatives in my opinion.

Placed the exact same order as you. Thanks for doing the research!

        • did it come with an AU power cord ?

looks like a sweet charger for USB-C owners.

        • @garage sale:
Looks like it's an easy cable to source locally at Jaycar etc etc

        • +1

          @garage sale:

I can confirm it comes with AU plug.

        • +1

So its been good for you? I ordered it then had second thoughts and submitted a cancellation. I was going to stick with someone like Anker, but I am aware this particular one only appears to be 30W PD. Is this Coosa working as well as the original Nektek?
          Doesn't help that my laptop's USB-C port (T470s) is in a retarded mouse-inhibiting location (for a rightie).

        • Thanks chawbery bought one as well :-)

        • +2

          @bender000:

I don't own a Nektek so I can't do a comparison. I can tell you that the Coosa comes with a UL Listed number of E472287 on the device. Which leads to here:
          http://productspec.ul.com/document.php?id=QQGQ.E472287

That E472287 is the same UL Listed number used on the Nektek linked above.

So either it's a rebrand of the Nektek, or someone is making Nektek clones. If it's the former, yay. If it's the latter, uh-oh.

Unsure how to tell definitively without having an electrical engineering degree.

I can say that it has worked well so far, and hasn't electrocuted me in one week of use.

        • Some nice detective work, cheers

Did you need special cables for the PD? Or did any quality C-to-C cable work (e.g. what comes with an OG Pixel)
EDIT just realised that particular cable is only rated for 15W so yeah gonna have to spend another 15 or so on a 60W rated USB-C to USB-C cable
          goddamned USB-C

        • Also bought one. Looks promising. Thanks @chawbery

        • @bender000: Any quality cable should work.

        • @bender000:
That's another rabbit hole but yeah anything from Google or Apple will work great.

        • @chawbery: In my particular case the goog cable from a pixel is only rated @ 15W if you check the spec!

        • @bender000:
Oh snap, well I refer back to PD usb-c cables being a rabbit hole to research, good thing you checked the specs.

        • @chawbery: it's actually a chinese product that was rebranded by many companies, including nektek. All the same thing, so just get the cheapest!

        • Thanks, great find! Out of stock now unfortunately

        • @jasopan:

Yeah, I got the last one yesterday. So good that a deal listen in the comments got Ozbargained before the actual OP.

          Thanks for posting!

        • @snaggot:

          Haha cheers everyone.

          @chawbery:

Received mine today. Charges my Xiaomi 13.3" Notebook no problem and very happy with build quality.

  • Recommended as this is very fast charger for phones of all sorts
and works perfect with GoPro 6, MacBook Pro 13, and Nintendo Switch

    • +3

Not "perfect" for Macbook Pro 13. The USB-C port is only up to 30W (apparently an older version supports up to 45W - overspec).

      • works perfectly for my 2017 Macbook Pro 13. Have used with flat battery and its charged the notebook to full whilst I've been using. I've got this same version Anker charger.

        • 30W will happily charge a 13-inch Pro while being used for light tasks. My Apple 29W USB-C will charge my 15-inch model no problem too, just a bit slowly.

        • It will charge, yes. The 29W Apple charger will also charge Macbook Pro 13. Even a 15W charger could charge Macbook Pro (even slower).

The thing is, when you need to charge your laptop quickly before a presentation OR you are in a presentation and you want to bring a reliable charger, I wouldn't count on a 30W USB-C charger.

Works? yes. Perfect? No. Got an Apple 61W charger for just about $10 more (at a discount price and that's not even using 20% off feeBay type voucher) so there is no incentive to use this. When you check using a USB-C meter with these chargers, you can see differences. My USB-C meter costs more than this Anker charger.

  • Would this do fast charging for iPad pro too?

    • I think it would if you had a proper USB-C -> Lightning cable.

iPad Pro charged at around 28 or 29w iirc.

      • The notes on this product page says:

"USB-C Port does not support USB-C to Lightning cables."

So thats a nay for this charger then?

        • But the user contradicts it

Fast charges the iPhone X (Tested)
          6 November 2017 - Published on Amazon.com
          Verified Purchase
Tested this today. Used the USB-C port on the Anker with a certified apple USB-C to lightning cable ($25).
          I was at 60% from 2% in 34 min.

    • +1

It depends on which iPad Pro you are referring to. First gen iPad Pro 12 inch - there is a customer comment on Amazon indicating this charger doesn't fast charge it. First gen iPad 9 inch - well, it doesn't even support USB-PD. Second gen iPad Pro's (10 inch, 12 inch), this charger via USB-C probably should support them (due to second gen support more PD voltages). However, there are multiple revisions of this charger so new version could support the first gen iPad Pro 12 inch - unlikely but possible.

You do need an Apple original USB-C to lightning cable (cannot use any converter, otherwise USB-PD is lost). To make things even more interesting, Apple recently reduced the price of the 1m version to $29. Sounds good right? yes, but there is a change in the new / cheaper 1m version. Apple removed the USB 3.0 data pins and wires out of the USB-C socket - essentially, the new version is USB 2.0 with USB-PD (old version is USB 3.0 with USB-PD). New version of the Apple 1m cable is inferior in terms of data transfer speed.

USB-C/USB-PD is a mess, especially if you go for cheap options.

      • It's the 10.9", so this is just confusing, if I get this, I ought to get the older USB3 cable to reap in both the charging and data speed benefits?

        • +1

10.9 - nice, so that's gen 2. Lightning to USB-C cable, what I found is Apple stores only carry the newer batch (USB 2.0/PD) for 1m. I don't have the information on 2m ones (they are not discounted so they could be USB 3.0/PD still - at that price, they'd better be, not sure though).

What I found is that most retail stores (i.e. JB Hi Fi) are unaware of the difference and have started selling all of them at $29. Thing is, you will find some 1m cables with the old price tag ($39). Those ones are most likely USB 3.0 ones. When the staff scan them, they should still be $29 each (but to be safe, grab one that has a price tag of $29 and tell the staff the price tag on the old one is wrong if required).

          To check, for 1m cable:
Product code starting with MK0X2: old (USB 3/PD)
Product code starting with MQGJ2: new (USB 2/PD)

If you are after a 2m cable, you will need to do your own research. Unlike iPhones (where the fast charge difference is minor), the fast charge difference on iPad Pro's is significant and USB 3.0 support is also important.

        • @netsurfer:

Cheers matey, you've been super helpful!

  • Do these actually charge game controllers? I've had these things and they seem to never be able to do such a simple task.

    • I received mine, and tried it with Switch Pro Controller and it DOES NOT CHARGE it lol

  • Wowwww, this is great — I have one for my MBP 15 2017. Charging is not great but it's a perfect solution for those that commute to and from work, so you can just leave one charger where you keep the charger plugged in and it's much cheaper than getting the Apple charger.

Plus the bonus of getting some USB charging ports :)

  • Watch out, the USB-C is only 30W. That's about half as much as the factory 60W adapter.
This might be better - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Xpower-WC3PD-Travel-Quick-Chrager/d…

    • Actually the USB-C port charges at up to 45W (I have one and a USB-C inline meter and have tested with various devices connected - my MBP 15" charges at 45W - 15V/3A)

      • +2

It appears the older revision supported 45w, but if you read the latest notes it's down to 30w now.

    • No, it's not. If anything, the specs quoted on that one doesn't add up. If it is 60W on the USB-C port and the total power is 60W, how much power do you get on the USB-A ports when your USB-C device draws 60W? If it still allows 2.4A per port with USB-C at 60W, isn't it running out of specs?

Without a clear specs, it is unsafe to get that one. To be fair, I am not that impressed with the Anker one. Obviously, after the reviews from Nathan, they came up with revised revisions to address some of the issues. But, then, the question is, which revision of the charger do you actually get now?

      • The specs are available on the manufacturers website. I'm not sure how the Xpower WC3PD handles its 60W power design envelope, whether it slows down its USB-C or Type-A ports. They make 75w version if you want to draw them all at the same time. http://xpower.com.hk/xpower-dc4pd-type-c-pd%E5%85%85%E9%9B%B…

I can't vouch for it, I've just read some good reports of the WC3PD online. The WC3PD is one of the few multiport adapters that support 20v/3a. I like that it includes different wall plugs for international use and plugs directly into the wall.

  • I have one of these - great charger - and as above use it to charge my MBP (and other devices) when I travel.

  • 2.4A each port, dang.

Anyone know of a multiport charger that carry 2.5A or more from each port?

I'm powering my RaspberryPi with TronSmart but its a tad short of Amp hence low power level warning on the Pi.

    • Blitzwolf ones normally don't have over-current protection on the 5V ports. However, you can only overdraw above 2.5A when less ports are in used (basically, you need to let go of a port or two).

      • Ok Blitzwolf is what I have to look for. Ta.

  • So this or the kogan unit listed above?

    • i just ordered the kogan one. :)

    • I bought the Kogan 80W some months back. Some cons:
      1. Big and heavy
      2. All USB-A ports are quick-charge enabled. I don't like this as it will shorten my phone's battery life. Just one or two ports with quick charge is better.

BTW, I spent only $29 (and some then-expiring Kogan vouchers) for the Kogan one

  • Anyone know why this is much more than the tronsmart listed in https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/393993 ?

    • +4

Short answer: because it is Anker.

Long answer: based on the reviews I read on chargers (with actual photos of what's inside), Anker chargers are better insulated and designed compared to other generic brand chargers. However, there is still a gap between Anker chargers and original Apple / Samsung / Google chargers (they are simply better designed, rather than using added materials to shield a slightly inferior design). Some dodgy chargers don't restrict current on 5V ports (some people actually like that), but you know Anker would have over-current protection.

Apple / Samsung / Google don't offer multi-port solutions. Out of all the makers making multi-port chargers, Anker's products generally provide less voltage/current fluctuation (less noise and more stable). Also, with USB-C, the charger, the cable and the device negotiate the voltage and current. Anker ones do come closer to the original than most of the others (but original or even using Google cable on Apple laptops, still get better voltage / current over Anker). However, if you compared to other generic brands or even AmazonBasics, Anker certainly is better. Most of the multi-port chargers are bad quality but your devices generally have high tolerance so you don't notice.

I still prefer to use original mainly because you cannot tell which revision of Anker you are going to get. Anker's offering tend to play it safe (30W on USB-C/PD is not enough for me). Also, some of the Anker USB-C cables are known to be dodgy (unfortunately). I don't like 3rd party chargers, BUT if I must pick one that I would use, it would be Anker.

  • Does anyone know if this will charge an X1 Carbon whilst in use? I'm assuming it won't, and can only be charged when not in use.

  • +1

Too bad this doesn't support 60W on USB C port, otherwise I could have used it as a notebook charger as well. This may still work (i.e: slow charge) with most notebooks that support USB C charging, but I’m guessing it’ll take ages to charge and won’t charge (i.e: increase battery percentage) if the notebook is used while plugged in.

  • According to an old post this is RCM approved for Australia.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/288742

  • For what it’s worth, I charge a 2018 15” MBP from an Anker battery pack that only puts out 30w. It can actually increase charge while in use if you’re just web browsing and checking email, but it takes 5 - 10 minutes to go up 1%. At full power it can draw about 100w though, so the charger has no hope.

  • Is this better than a Blitzwolf BW-S7?

  • +4

Anker seem to make nice quality products, but it is a shame to see the "Australia Tax" on some of their products on Amazon.

For example the Powerdrive charger is USD $9.99 on Amazon US and AUD $24 on Amazon AU. Allowing for today's exchange rate, the same product is AUD $13.50 in the USA and AUD $24 here, a little hard to stomach.

Another example is the 10ft Powerline+ Lightning Cable which is USD $17.99 on Amazon US and AUD $49.95 on Amazon AU. At today's rate in AUD, that is $24.31 vs. $49.95.

I guess it shows that the OP has posted a bargain, as this product is USD $47.99 on Amazon US. But the cynical punter could posit that the posted item is superseded, and that the newer version is USD $49.99 on Amazon US, while unavailable on Amazon AU. Might be interesting to see the price of the the newer version in Amazon AU once it is available.

      FU Gerry

    • Yep it sucks. Best local stock price is via ebay, and buying from asian sellers only saves a couple of dollars.

  • Just a heads up, it might not be a good choice of charger if you plan to usually charge only one device. As per the review earlier:

Finally, the Power Factor on this charger is extremely low. Even with just a Nexus 6P connected (5v/3a), it draws 18.1W/34.4VA at the wall. That a PF of .52 at light load, efficiency 83%.

  • We use that at work to charge small LED torches overnight and it works for us

No issues so far pretty good deal

  • +2

I have one of these, it's fantastic for what I use it for, I paid closer to $100 so this is a fantastic deal.

    A few things worth noting:
    - It will NOT charge your USB-C devices at 65W.
    - My charger does manage 20V/2A even though it's not officially supported.
    - It does get hot when charging a device at full speed via USB-C(PD).
    - Make sure you get a quality USB-C cable, some are not up to scratch (Anker's own cables have been good for me, but if you have an old one, check the model number as I think they recalled some of their early ones for 'remembering' the voltage when swapping to a different device.

    Nathan
    (First OzB comment!)

::EDIT:: I really want a similarly sized charger with detachable 240VAC and USB-C(PD) at 65W+ with 2+ USB-A (2.4A?) ports, that'd be perfect.

    • If anyone reads this and is looking for a good USB-C to USB-C cable, the best one I've tried is the JUCX01 cable from J5create. It's rated to 100w for charging and 10gb/s for data. It's also quite flexible but holds up to abuse without any issues.

    • I really want a similarly sized charger with detachable 240VAC and USB-C(PD) at 65W+ with 2+ USB-A (2.4A?) ports, that'd be perfect.

Have a look at the Xpower chargers that me and shiny1 suggested before. They have one available which should meet your needs exactly:

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xpower-75W-DC4PD-4-Port-Desktop-…

  • For anyone who doesn't have a Macbook etc and is looking for QC3 for Samsung etc. I spent a couple of weeks looking around and ended up going with the Anker 63W with 2 QC3 ports and 3 2.4A ports(no USB-C) for $55.02 after 5% ebay code.
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Anker-Powerport-Speed-5-2x-Quick…

  • Question - Is there one of these that has 1xPD port and 4xQC3.0? I still have an older Tronsmart with 1xQC2.0 and 4xvoltIQ ports going strong but want something with more fast charging ports

  • Well that was short lived. The charger has already died… All ports. YMMV.
