Ventilator 3 Mesh Gloves $19.95 + $9 Delivery (RRP $89) @ Shark Leathers

70

I was looking for some motorcycle gloves and came across these on clearance. RRP is $89. I ordered 2 x L gloves and it discounted a further 20% off at checkout!? Cost me $40.90 (inc delivery) for two pairs. Not sure of expected delivery date but paid with PayPal so feel at ease. Plenty of sizes to order as well.

Not sure of the quality but at $20 each I am happy to give them a go.

Shark are sneaky bastards, the "rrp" is never the price. They just say it is for everything. But they will sell at "a crazy half price" etc just to suck you in.

    Worst quality gear to

    • That's a shame. Reviews seem fairly positive about the gloves so willing to give them a try. Unfortunately most businesses are like that with RRP. It's pretty stupid tbh.

    • Agreed MEGASERVE.

It's not even just with their own shoddy products they SAY are worth more $$ to suck you into thinking you're getting a high quality product at a great price.

They did the same with the pre-order of Nolan Helmets earlier this year. I have the email from them saying they are selling these new Helmets if you pre-order for half price down to $219 from $439 - actual RRP is $299. I was pretty peeved given price is usually somewhat of an indicator of quality for a product. Luckily for them Nolan Helmets are great quality and I was happy enough to keep the product at the price I'd paid (still below RRP but that's not the point).

  • Also be aware that most of these items are preorder. I ordered mine at the start of June and they still haven’t arrived :-/

    • Yeah i read that they only order them when they reach a certain 'pre-order' quota. I might be waiting a while if you still haven't even received yours! I'm hanging onto some hope as the status on their website says in-stock.

  • There was a 10% off statewide coupon too recently, dunno if expired though it popped up on Facebook.

yea quality of their product is far below standard and they arent interested once you have an issue…

seriously why would you literally risk your skin to save a few bucks, look at images of cheap gear after going for a slide and stay well away from these guys.even the name is trying to ride on the coat tails of shark helmets.

Oh it's not the same company as the helmet manufacturer?

      • +2

No, completely different company. Shark helmets are a French company that design and manufacture helmets. Shark Leathers are a retail store that imports mostly unbranded (mostly Chinese) products.

They do have some decent branded products too, but their in-house 'Shark' branded items are garbage from all accounts I've heard.

        • I didn't actually realise that. Cheers. The font on the "Shark" is identical!

    • I thought they were the same manufacture as well… oops!

Really surprises me that Shark helmets haven't come down like a tonne of bricks on these guys.

Much better off going for ThirdGear or Biker Gear Australia for affordable riding gear (or just wait for the next Aldi sale…must be coming soon, their stuff is surprisingly decent).

        • After discovering this, I had a look at the helmets that they sell and it looks like Shark is one of the few helmet brands they don't sell haha. Shark probably refuses to do business with them.

@rhino015: I also notice this! But I did see good branded helmets that I worry are just branded that way and not the actual quality helmet they are advertising for sale… Very suss now.

  • I use riggers gloves in summer. Shark gloves, and others like them, look impressive with the plastic armour on the knuckles. If somebody goes for a slide it is always the palms that get scratched up, never the knuckles. We've all seen it in motorcycle races - dudes sliding on their backs or bums with their hands on the ground. Armour is essential on hips and funnily enough, on forearms. The rest of it dwindles radically in usefulness. If you live life on the rear wheel, definitely some armour to cover your coccyx.

$20 for dodgy shark gloves or find some Dainese, Spidi or Alpinestars on facebook marketplace for $30-40 … I know what I would rather have.

    • Are Five gloves a decent brand?

      • I've never worn them, but have fiends who do. Another premium brand with excellent products.

        • Your fiends must drink a lot of monster.

      • They're ok. I have two pairs that I got on sale.

Not high end by any means but at least they're a known brand

  • My Ventilator 2 lasted for a year and a half before I lowsided and i didn't get to let go of the handlebar before it hit the ground and skidded.

thankfully a relatively low-speed off (~25-30 kph) and it only took off a little skin from the knuckles of a couple of fingers in the part that didn't directly have plastic armour.

if i had my leather gloves on I reckon my fingers would have come through unscathed, but I guess that your trading off bulky/stiff padding/material against the ventilation you get with these gloves.

  • Peter Stevens has alpine stars SP-1 road gloves for $50+ delivery or fox MX gloves $10+ ,
Be aware there is a lot of pho-leather coming out of Asia in gloves like dririders.
Don't expect them to stand up to a high speed slide.
