I was working for 7Eleven and did not realise that I was underpaid. I went through wages claim and got my money back. Now, I am working for the same store.( I put this because this would be the topic that people will have interest)
[AMA] I work at 7Eleven I was there when they underpaid their employee and left but I am back working for 7Eleven now

Sushi and sandwiches are delivered every night from Monday to Friday and Friday delivery has to be enough to sell until Monday delivery. They are 5 or 6 days away from used by date when we receive. It has to be throw out if we can't sell at used by date. We reduce prices to a bit over it they are one day away from used by date.
I don't understand your second question. I did not get paid right for the first time.
I used to get paid from franchise directly when I was underpaid. I get paid from 7Eleven payroll directly now not from the franchise. Work hours are monitored by fingerprint so it can't be cheated.
Hmmm… note to self: don't buy sushi and sandwiches on the weekend. :D
generally the sandwiches are alright, but the sushi I tried it once, and I think it should be called sushit
KK is delivered with the sandwiches and milk. I always ask them to get me a box out of the fresh delivery(around 9PM at my local EVERYNIGHT). I bought some on Saturday night and was waiting for the truck to come. I saw them unload. There were like 7-8 black crates with sandwiches in them(open at the top). Definitely delivered on weekends as well.
My local 7Eleven is open 24 hours a day. Very misleading…
Should rebrand to 24Seven
7-Twentyfour
@TarquinOliverNimrod: 7-365. 7 Days a week 365 days a year.
Are Slurpee machines intentionally broken if so why?
really? I work at pretty busy store and slurpee machines never broke. We only had to shut some tap as the flavour ran out in summer.
All slurpee machines around the world break down twice a day in unison at 7 minutes past 11.
Timezone?
GMT
is your 7/eleven also a fuel outlet and if so, who sets the prices? is it head office sends you an email and an individual at the store puts it into the computer or is it at the full discretion of the franchisee? i'm trying to understand how with the fuel lock app there can be such huge variances across the stores (and states).
The store that I work is not a fuel outlet. However, I have asked my manager who owned fuel outlet be before. He said it depends on the area and willing of the manager/owner. Some are greedy for 2 cents and some are not. Everyone jumps on board if the fuel circle comes. My local service station/coles express never goes under 139.9 per litre for 91 because there is no other service within 7 km of the store.
He told me it is kind of relates to tobacco prices.
If this help, I used to work at Tobacco store. Tobacco prices get increased by government three times a year. The store can't stock as much as they want before the price increases and sell the stock with higher price after the price increases. The store has to get rid of the old stock with the old price. We certainly don't get rid of old tobacco stock at old prices… The price goes up on the day of the excise increase. Buying cheap pre increase and selling after increase is a great way to add additional margin.
I was there at tobacco shops where my boss stocked 20 grand worth of stocks before price increases and put the new(higher) price on board and the rep from tobacco put the price backdown.
I would make so much money on smokes if I could sell them with new(higher) price because I know the price increase occurs three times a year. Unfortunately, it is not how it works.
@supercheapguy: maybe not in you industry… Tobacco reps have 0 control on what price we sell for!
@Soluble: I worked at independent tobacco shop where do you work coles or Woolworths?
@supercheapguy: A milkbar, then Coles group for 18 years, now independent. Tobacco prices always went up the day of the excise increase for us! A franchised tobacco store may be a completely different story.
@Soluble: yeh milk bar is not franchise and owned Privately. Coles and Woolworths have purchasing power. . I worked for free choice Tobacco shop. Rep controls the price of tobacco. It might be different in your case. But I can assure you it happened in front of eyes
@supercheapguy: When do the prices increase exactly ?
@dig bick:
March, August and I can't remember next
I work at a 7-Eleven fuel store. All of the fuel prices are set by the Head Office. We used to get a notification about changes in fuel prices and have to plug in the changes into the system but now its all automatic and we dont have to do anything besides pressing a button that tells us prices have changed.
Red or Blue?
What do you mean?
He means what is your favourite colour.. Neo?
Winnie reds or Winnie blues
@singlemalt72: tell me alot about a 'man'
How many times have you been robbed?
Why do the stores that are open 24/7 have locks on the doors?
The locks are to keep the underpaid workers inside
never. The attendant has to remain inside the counter if the door is locked after 10 PM. He can only go out if the door is locked after 10 PM.
Do you reckon 7Eleven will ever stock Brawndo, the thirst mutilator?
I do not think so
@supercheapguy: But it has electrolytes and is what plants crave
@sarge_017: What are electrolytes, do you even know??
I found a moldy sandwich and told the staff member who took it away, but it was back the next day.
The sandwich or the staff member?
it must be inexperienced staff member. I am allowed to throw away anything in store if I believe it is harmful.
Do you believe smokes are harmful ?
@MITM: op please respond
What the hell kind of an excuse is that?
If the staff member put it back for someone to buy and eat, they're either psychotic or retarded. In primary school I had homework to attach pictures of things beginning with S. I got ticks for everything but what I considered were smokes.
Why do I remember this?
@jaybot: maybe your teacher thought your picture was of sigarettes so no tick, or perhaps ticking smokes might look like condoning smoking.
@Save Medicare: I believe you will die one day. Why not spend money on what you enjoy doing while you are still alive. I myself smoke one a day and I don’t think it harms me at all but time will tell. I won’t be blaming myself if I get sick from smoking because I enjoyed myself and my money
@supercheapguy: your first 2 sentences were correct, rest was utter rubbish
Because you were wrong and still are since smoke is a by product of cigarette?
what will you do if the check out machine cant scan the barcode on the app for payment and the customer have no other method to pay?
The system is down sometimes so we just have to tell customer to come back later in the day and tell them to call customer support to solve the problem.
So they can leave without paying?
yes if it is free coffee or slurpee or 7eleven products. Otherwise, no
@supercheapguy:
How about petrol? I locked price and top up account for the petrol and forgot to bring wallet only mobile phone@LoveBargain15: I believe it is the same for every service station. You fill out the form and you have 7 days to come back and pay.
I have continually been to stores to claim my good rewards and the attendant has said the code doesn't work. Is this deliberately done by the store person so as the claim cant be made. I have complained to customer service on various occasions. All they can say is get the attendant to call their help line to assist attendant. I think store managers are telling their staff not to process these rewards. Does head office pay the store or not.
profit and expenses are shared almost 50/50 by franchise and head office. Yes, I know some of the managers are tight ass as they do not want to give out free items. It is against the rules to say no to those claims nowadays. Please remember the store and the date if that happen to you and you can complaint to head office.
Sometimes the barcodes scan but the system doesnt change the price for some reason. Ive had that occur to me only on one occasion. If it was the manager/franchisee selling it to you, theyd probs just change the price but I can imagine an employee too scared to just change prices of goods without asking permission from the manager. Otherwise, Head Office cops 100% of the discount, so there's no real incentive to not honour it. (this is for the fuel lock discounts)
I have all the paper work I need to prove my discussion. I am not getting anything even if I did clickbait. This is not a youtube.
Maybe start a new forum topic Harry.
I'm a wizard AMA.
If you walk into a gay bar and wave around your longstaff of kamasutra, can you disappear with a poof?
Where are you from
I am from one of the Asian country and I was an international student.
Would you disclose your wage? and would you recommend it for students?
I am working as casual and I get general industry retail award 2010 as my store is not fuel outlet.
I would recommend student to work there. Most stores employ their family members and their friends. You also need to know someone who work there to vouch for you as they do not take random people as far as I know.
I don't want to come across as racist but are you of Indian or sub-continental extraction?
haha I am not Indian. I knew it was coming
OP works at 7Eleven… not Kwik-E-Mart! :p
I want to be racist but what in the world does sub-continental extraction mean?
Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Nepali, Sri Lankan, Rohigyan or countries with a large Indian expatriate population (Ie Singapore, Malaysia, Fiji, many Gulf States). I thought Sub-continental would cover all those bases without having to list them all.
I'm an immigrant myself (SEA Asia) and I am a believer in a multi-cultural Australia but every 7-11 I've entered into in the past 20 years is seemingly staffed by an Indian looking dude and I'm curious as to why.
I'm just as curious why there are no Anglos working in Chinese restaurants or why I've never ever seen a Jewish tradesman.
seemingly staffed by an Indian looking dude and I'm curious as to why.
This is actually the case in many many parts of the world. Whether Middle East, UK, Americas or in between. I think it's because they're fairly happy to take on mundane low pay and long hour jobs as it's still seen as a step up from their own country's lack of opportunities. They also look after one another in that sphere.
As someone who's half English, half Australian and half Irish I couldn't agree.
@Hybroid: Actually this happens so much because a lot of 7/11s are owned by sub continent people. So sub continent students naturally feel more comfortable approaching for a job there, as there is less chance of racism, uptight white bosses or politics. We speak the same language so communication is easier and having this connection can help in difficult times as a mutual understanding grows between the owner and the worker.
Now you can call me racist for saying what I've said, but my friend in US who used to work such a job was hit in the head with a metal pipe by a white dude after Trump was elected, and another Indian guy was shot dead by a white guy screaming racist slurs. So when we go to other countries as students we have to find and connect with our people for comfort and support.
As someone who's half English, half Australian and half Irish I couldn't agree.
That's just too many halves.
I'm just as curious why there are no Anglos working in Chinese restaurants or why I've never ever seen a Jewish tradesman.
If you go far enough from main cities, you'll find anglos working in Chinese restaurants.
@homersimpson: It works 60% of the time, everytime.
@homersimpson: Just cut the total in half.
I imagine you have trouble finding clothes and airline seats that fit.
@homersimpson: I thought "half Irish" was the punchline of the joke lol…
But I'm a quarter Irish and I'm not stupid :)
yeah I sometimes wonder about this as well, not just 7/11 but pretty much most of the fuel stations I've seen (urban, suburban across the eastern sea board) have had workers from Indian subcontinent - I can understand international students working in urban environments, but in the middle of nowhere?
Now, without wanting to sound racist, i think there's people of certain cultures who don't want to work certain jobs because they think they're too good or it's not worth their time because they already get government assistance. For students of other cultures who have experienced or seen hardship in their own countries, they're more willing to go out of their way to make money.
I'm aware of that sentiment, but if you are on a student visa, you'll likely want to be close to a uni, it's kinda hard to fathom that you'd get a job 500km away from your uni
Some students that come here don't actually study. The amount of money that they can make here, even though it seems like very little to us locals, is a lot to them. It's very easy to be blinded by the money.
They realise the chances of being caught are very slim.
Here's a hint, the stations are generally owned/franchised by those from Indian sub continent. I know of one family that owns 13 (as in freehold) for example. This is in regional Australia and I don't think its in any way an isolated case.
I don't want to be racist but what kind of extract are you? Vanilla, yeast or cinnamon?
No love for Chocolate or Hummus?
I believe "South Asian" is acceptable.
Or spicy Asian.
You are correct but what about Indians from other places (read my earlier post). Technically an ethnic Indian from Nadi who speaks only Hindi, recites the mahabarata and prays daily to Ganesha could answer no.
Saying "South" is racist. You have to say "Northerly Challenged".
Do you work night shits? How boring does it get?
"Do you work night shits? How boring does it get?"
As boring as shit?
I used to work night shifts and you receive delivery and refill stock for whole stock. Those jobs can be done in less than 2 hours and the rest of the night you can do whatever in the store like watching videos or something.
How often do the beans in the coffee machine get refilled? If I put 2-3 shots of coffee in a $1 coffee cup, would the staff know?
Why stop at 3?
As far as I know 1 dollar coffee costs nothing to 7-Eleven so most franchises don’t care plus it brings more customers
A franchisee in Sydney CBD said the coffee machine costs around $2000 installed. Each machine generates $2000 revenue per day. They are so profitable, he wanted to install another 2.
I would estimate the beans/milk/water/electricity for a small cup come to roughly 30c. Maintenance and depreciation might push the cost up to 40c … you can see how it's hugely profitable and why they can give away so many free cups via the app.
@salmon123: bro I heard coffee machine costs 20grand. I don't think it's 2 grand. It has fridge large enough to hold 8 liters of milk and functions to clean by itself. It's all automatic. Even machine at Cafe cost 8 or 9 grand for decent one/ manual too
How long/old are the food products there? Specifically, the sushi, sandwiches, and coffee melts?
And what are you doing differently to ensure you'll get paid correctly the first time around?
