Go to DM, ask them to price match, use e-wish and get 5% off = $38

  • Website says $45?

    • Varies by state, SA, NSW and NT are $45.

  • Set state to VIC, show price on your phone and I bet Dan Murphy's will price match no matter where you are, usually pretty lax.

    • Dan will price match no problems there but whether the stores have stock is another .

    Tooheys is better

  • good price, OP, what's best before date?

    • +1

The box I bought states 16 November 2018. A solid 3 months there!

Best before date if you need beer goggles

    • One I picked up was November 2018

  • $40 in WA too.

  • I believe these are imported from China?

    • +8

      Nope, made in Japan

Bottled Asahi is from China. Cans (350ml and 500ml) are from japan

    • Asahi has site over at Huntingwood. I wouldn't be suprised if they brew it from there.

      • At the moment all the Asahi for sale in Australian bottle shops is either brewed in CHina (sold in bottles) or in Japan (sold in cans)

  • Tiger slabs at $42 are good value at lol too. Cheaper Han dans website

Check dates. I am having this recurring problem, cans (350 and 500mL) taste quite "off" within about 6 months of expiry. Returned the 300s to Dan Murphys today and the manager tasted them with me (09/18 batch vs 04/19) and we could both taste the difference. She said she was going to make all her other managers taste them too!

Lol. "Sorry folks, shop's closing early"

  • I do enjoy the bottled version of this beer. Can anyone notice the difference in taste between Asahi cans vs bottles?

    • Why the negs? Honest question.

      • Completely honest question. Unsure on the neg as well. Not a beer expert, just genuinely interested if it's different from a bottle.

We don’t buy or eat food made from china.

    • You should blind taste them. If you don't notice the difference, then buy the cheaper one.
I don't know if all the people here can tell the difference or all are real connoisseurs.

    • Yeah, I can tell. I reckon the China made one is more watery - less flavoursome

    • Yeah the canned ones have more flavour

      • Yeah the canned ones have more flavour

Made in Japan may have something to do with it.

Asahi is nice and sweet, but super dry it isn't. It's not dry at all.

    • I suppose they don't care about the meaning.. It's just English words in Japan. Probably trying to say it's crisp IMO

      • I believe Asahi translates into lucky mouth (Direct from the ideographics) so it must probably mean your mouth is lucky to be sampling at. And at $40, definitely not arguing.

Also, as per previous post, there is a stark difference between the beer that is brewed and canned in Japan vs the beer that are brewed and canned elsewhere. I believe that it is evident with the Sapporo brand if I remember correctly.

  • Thanks.. Just grabbed the last box at my local.

I just picked up a case of cans at my local. When she scanned it through it came up as eighty dollars something. I said…no that's not right, it should be forty three odd dollars. No worries I'll change the price. Got home and realised I had a case of 500ml cans :-)

  • thanks OP just copped another case of these beauties
