  • UPS 12v batteries are normally 9ah batteries I believe with slightly larger battery terminals. These will obviously fit and work as a replacement if yours are indeed 9ah but you'll have less run time.
Apologies if you already knew all that :)

    • True I have a couple if small single battery UPS that take this size. I haven't had to replace the batteries in my large UPS yet. But I do know that these fit some UPS.

      • +1

7ah and 9ah is usually the same size.

    • These already have the larger F2 terminals and should fit most UPS. Smaller terminals are F1

  • +1

I'm curious why the NBN system need a battery?

    • +2

The don't need a battery, but they offered an option with a battery backup for FTTP installs. Since fibre needs power, the internet will drop out if power is cut, unlike a regular landline which is self powered.

      • +3

If the power is cut, my router will be switched off as well, so does the internet. So the battery means nothing unless I connect my device(battery powered as well) direct to the NBN port?

        • Exactly right. When the batter is gone, just take it out. Then relax and eat cake!

        • +1

@allenrong88: Or try to get everything battery powered and waiting for the power cut.

        • I also have a UPS for my router.

        • The battery is to keep the phone service up, in the event of an emergency, which I believe is one of the criteria of supplying a phone service - unless you specifically opt out of it.
Previously, this was done by supplying power from the exchange over the PSTN line.

      • what a rort… NBN require the users to provide most of the infrastruture now?… looks like they have the supermarket CEO who introduced self checkouts to run the show.

        • +3

I've never had to bring any of my own checkouts to the supermarket - they've always had them there for me to use.

        • +4

Don't say that out too loud, you'll give them ideas

      • The battery is useless actually. It doesn't keep the Internet port working. only the Fibre phone ports. I have VOIP, so for me it does nada.

        • It doesn't keep the Internet port working.

It does - see page 20. It use to only be the UNI-V ports it powered but there was a firmware update to also power the UNI-D ports back in ~2014.

    • +13

They had batteries in FTTP installs so you can still make phone calls if you get a power outage.

      • +5

^ this is the correct answer

        • -4

Not exactly, originally it was only to power the UNI-V ports, but was then changed to power the UNI-D ports as well.

        • -1

          @Porthos: UNI-V is for voice….

        • -1

@JAKEBAB: Yes, I know that. Bogak said the battery was for making phone calls, I said it was for that AND also now powering the UNI-D ports as well.

So not sure exactly what your point is??

        • -2

@Porthos: lol whatever. The point is so you can make phone calls. Go use the internet if you can during the outage.

        • @bogak: The point is so that the entire NTD is still powered.. plenty of people have a UPS for their router as well so can easily keep using the internet during a blackout. My sincere apologies for correcting you 🙄🙄🙄

        • Does nobody here use a mobile phone?

        • +2

@BargainKen: We all want to use one but there aren't any that accept eneloops

    • -1

      plus $16 delivery

    • +1

That looks the same just $4 cheaper and free shipping with eBay plus. Which makes this deal obselete.

    • +1

Thanks Spam, I got two of them for $32.28 AUD including free eBay Plus delivery by using the "PENNY5" code. I had to use the eBay app on my phone to pay with PayPal because eBay and PayPal are having a problem with their Single Sign On setup today, which also means I didn't use cashrewards.

    • Price-jacked to $19.99

  • +5

The day I discovered you could permanently turn off the fkn alarm that blares every 30m when the battery is running low, was the best day of my life.

BTW: Hold the silence alarm button for like 30s.

    • Or disconnect the battery

    • Mines been doing this for 3 years. Lucky its in the garage.

      • Lmao, quite some battery to be whinging for 3 years on low charge!

  • Do I need to replace like-for-like wattage wise? or as long as right V/Ah I should be all good?

eg. If I have a UPS with 360w batts, can I replace with 480w batts?

    • I'm not a UPS expert but you need to make sure that the physical size of the battery can fit in the space provided.

    • +3

Long as the voltage is the same (12v) you can replace with anything bigger or smaller as you please.

FOR EXAMPLE - I have a car battery hooked up to my UPS. I get HOURS of usage!

The WATTAGE is basically the inverter output, which is independent of the battery's size. Server UPS's could be 2000w+ depending on their size.

      • The building structure of Start/Stop, Deep cycle, UPS standby batteries are very different.
It can be used but also may shorten either 1's lifespan and warranty may not cover? Please becareful

  • Just cancel ebay plus yesterday, sad

    • Open new account, get eBay Plus again, get free Google Home Mini.

    • I have cancelled mine a few weeks ago and I am still the ebayplus. As long as you are within first 30 days you should be still the member.

  • Would these be okay for alarm systems?

    • -2

Yes, it can be used in Alarm system but you will need F2 to F1 terminal adaptor. leave us a message "please provide f2 to f1 adaptor" when checkout will do

  • why on earth would anyone use a sealed lead acid and not lithium for this in 2018? it's not even deep cycle.

    • when your paying 20%-40% the cost of lithium….

    • +1

      Cost and reliability.

SLA batteries are simple beasts, require very basic charging circuits and tend not to suffer from some of the dangerous physical issues that can impact Li-Ion.

Also, most of the typical applications for this size of battery are standby only and just rely upon a battery being their just in case e.g. UPS, Alarms, Sliding Door systems etc. Just trickle charge a SLA battery at around 13.6V approx and it will be happy for years and when it does fail it will most likely be gradual rather than catastrophic.

      • given lithium based has lower self discharge rate, more charge cycles, better DoD, you would only need a smaller battery bank and the battery lifetime would be much longer compared, so the cost is arguable.

although having said that temperature range is probably greater with lead acid if you live in areas with somewhat extreme outdoor temperatures.

  • What's the shelf storage life for these? I down need one right now, but don't want to buy it then when I go to use it in 2yrs n findout it won't keep charge.

    • +2

Why? Because you saw that there was a high demand and to make more profit? I'll remove the 2 I had in my cart and buy from someone else

    • +2

      Dog move

  • i got mine for $9.99 delivered using this code AUPL10YSH79GZYBM

not sure if it is attached to my account or not.

    • disregard, wasn't aware of vouchers attached to accounts on ebay lol

  • ✔ Designed Service Life - 3-5 Years ✔ 1 Years Warranty

    @ACCC…

That aside, $18.99 here, possibly for 8Ah but pictures the same 7.2…? Same store.

    Edit: Another brand for $15.99

    • Neuton power 12V 7Ah should not be used for NBN.

Yes the CSB battery you mentioned is 8Ah (still using 7.2AH old case, but Hitachi has upgraded all to 8Ah, please see attached datasheet, or search GP1272 in CSB site for further detail)

      • Why shouldn't it be used with NBN? Is there some kind of standard or recommendations somewhere?

  • -1

Supplier has just replied and confirmed to supply us no more than 400 of this battery for the next 2 months. Price changed to 17.99 (eBayPlus only)

If we ran out of stock, we will automatically replace CSB 12V 8Ah or higher grade (GPL1272, HR1234W, HRL1234W) battery to you at certain limits

    All rights reserved.

    • -2

Nice backflip on your dick move of jacking up the price to $19.99 to get more profit. Did you notice that no one was buying it after the price markup?

      • +1

Be positive and think positive. We did not need to declare we have changed price here but we did

        • You didn't have to organise more discount stock either, so I for one appreciate that, even if BlitzR doesn't.

        • Can you also do some special deal for HR1234W for eBay Plus members?

  • Actually when your NBN starts beeping replace battery, try to just unplug and replug the battery, most likely your battery is still fine and just a glitch on the BBU. The battery is not necessary for the NTD anyway so you can even keep it unplugged, that is unless your life depends on NBN.
