    • If you want to check actual speed check with wired connection. Wireless will be always lower than actual speed.

      • Thanks I'm aware of that, I'm just concerned with the loss the further away I move from the modem and wondering if a "stronger/more modern" modem would maintain a better connection/speed?

        • We had the same trouble with our old gateway modem.
Replaced it with a new Netgear modem and we now get constant fast speeds all over the house.

        • I'm using an ASUS RT-N56U, gets good coverage throughout the house - but it is a small house. I'm using my Telstra Gateway in the loungeroom as a Network extender (was going to throw it out, but decided I might as well get some usage out of it).

        • You can also split with 2 wireless router move slow connection speed devices on 1 router & fast devices on other router as router will match speed of lowest speed device & move all other devices to that speed.

        • @Enjj0y:

          That's not correct.

Speed for a wireless device is determined by the wireless standard a client can use, how close a device is to the router, interference, and other things like that.

The maximum speed of the wireless network is determined by the wireless standard being used.

          Standard Speed Frequency
Wireless AC 1 Gbps 5 GHz
          Wireless N 300 Mbps 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz
          Wireless G 54 Mbps 2.4 GHz
          Wireless B 11 Mbps 2.4 GHz

But you can connect different (older) standard devices to the same network as newer standard devices.

Wireless routers almost always default to a mode where they let each client connect at whatever standard that client is capable of. So your AC clients will connect at AC speeds, and your N clients will connect at N speeds, etc.

Older routers were only single band. So for example if you connected a G device to a single band N router you would lose the 5ghz band and the benifits this offered (but you could still use N with 2.4ghz).
If you only had a single band router with newer and older devices then your advice can help as you can have 2.4 and 5ghz networks.

But most (probably all) modern routes are simultaneous dual band so they can work at 2.4 and 5ghz at the same time.

  • I've been with Aussiebb before telecube. Is there a period of time to be considered a new customer? Couldn't find the t&cs.

    • I am with telecube now what is actual increment to move to abb?

      • Yeah I'm contemplating this as well. $69 -> $85, support is crap but 6T transfer. Not that I get even close to 1T but 500G seems a bit … low.

    • Hi ChurchMouth yes you can use the new promo - cheers, ABB

  • +1

Any chance of a deal for existing customers?

    • Hi timdee, we have no deals for customers currently, we have also not long completed the loyalty from for current customers. - Cheers, ABB

  • Signed up.

How do I change plan up/down? Any downgrade fees?

    • +1

Hi Morien, you can change this by speaking with our team on 1300 880 905 or through your MyAussie portal which you should have received the logins for. You will only pay the difference in plans when going up. There is no cost for going down. Cheers, ABB

  • Can this be stacked with the $10 off for the first 6 months deal?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/388970

    • +1

Hi mingjuitsai, we do not support deal stacking - cheers, ABB

    • No

  • As a few others have mentioned, any chance of some small deal for existing customers?

    • Hi Slave1, I will pass on the feedback regarding this to our team for future offers - cheers, ABB

      • my main gripe is 50/20 500GB $74, 50/20 unlimited $79…

I don't need unlimited, 500GB would suit me fine, but for the sake of $5 who wouldn't take unlimited.. I realise this is the exact business model you were going for but it's also the reason quite a few are jumping ship (mungi for example who now have L2 network are doing 50/20 unlimited for $59.95 for the first 5 months, then $64.95… that's a substantial difference in pricing….)

  • How does this compare with exetel? They're offering the 50plan for 59.99 with free modem, 12 months contract. Which sounds good as I don't currently have a nbn modem

    • They also offer a complete lack of Australian tech support I'm pretty sure. If you're into that kinda thing, then it's probably alright.

  • Ordered.

Be been with my republic for a year without any issue and speed consistently good. If ABB can too that. I’ll be impressed

  • Got any more of these deals planned in the near future? In the next month or so I'll be moving, and looking at getting an NBN service.

  • Will I be able to use my Telstra Frontier Gateway router with you when we get FTTC in OCT-DEC 2018? I talked Telstra into giving it to me for free as ADSL2 is losing sync regularly? I'll be out of contract with Telstra in NOV.

  • Ordered. been with skymesh over 2 years and 120GB is not enough.

  • I'm not sure wired NBN is worth it.
Wireless broadband has speed similar or better and thats before 5G which may give me faster speeds again.
    Has anyone tried Uniti Wireless?
    https://unitiwireless.com/plans/residential-plans

    • They do have a tempting $799.95 activation fee on their no lock-in plans!

      • You mean $99.95 activation fee then only $40 per month

        • No I don’t. The plan you quoted is for a 25Mb/s on a 36 month contract. I was referring to any of the “No Lock In” plans as per your link. Many OzBargainers prefer the flexibility of no contact.

    • +1

Higher latency and potential contention with wireless.

      • -3

        True, something to think about.
But 5G wireless speeds are going to make wired NBN seem slow.

        • Not fibre. :D

  • Been really happy with Aussie for over the last year.

Sign up for any new nbn™ service before midnight tonight (03/08/18)

I'm going to be really picky, midnight on the 3rd has gone. That happened at 00:00.

The deal ends at 11.59pm on the 3rd
    Or
Sign up before midnight on the 4th.

  • Hi OP,
I need to give 30 days notice to my current ISP, can I sign up now for your NBN service 30 days from now ?.

    • +1

You can sign up and pick a date up to 3 months away.

      • cheers

  • Aussie has been the first and only nbn service I have been with.

    100% no issues.

Although I can't compare with another provider, highly recommend these guys.

  • only signed my mum up the other week and I've missed out on all these offers for her :( what a bummer

    • F to pay respects.

  • Can we host Wordpress in a web space?

  • I filled out the form and everything annnnnnd…. your website was down.
Anyway, I'll do it again. But my house doesnt have NBN til september, I can see that I can pre-order but will I be connected the first available day?

    • I have signed up! CANT WAIT FOR NBN and "typical evening speed 90mpbs" :D

  • Signed up a few weeks ago to an nbn plan and now there are special promo deals every week 😒 Not a great start to our ABB relationship.

  • I'm seeing very good reviews from these guys. Let's hope they live up to their reputation and dont slow down after many customers signed up.

  • I'd just like to mention that the customer service with Aussie Broadband is excellent! I get about 2-3 weeks notice before any NBN outages in the area, and the initial installation was easy and simple. When the plans changed, I was placed on a better plan for the same price without even asking (and I could easily choose a lower price plan if I wanted to).
I know a couple of people at my workplace who live in the same area who don't get any notice of outages (other than an "unscheduled outage" notice on the Telstra web page on the day).

  • Do I need an Aussie broadband modem/router if I already have a router? Doesn't NBN supply me with a seperate cable modem?

  • Signed up. Moving away from IINET after 7 years. Hope ABB hype will justify my decision.

  • My roll over day with telecube is the 22nd. Can I sign up now and select a activation date?

    • ill be doing the same - im over telecube - apparently you can enter cut over date - but i wouldn't tell tele until a few days out going of other comments on disconnection

      • …….and i cant seem to find what telecube cancellation notice is. but i remember reading 4 days somewhere?

  • +1

Signed up this evening and transfer was complete in less than 60 minutes. Results on speedtest came in at 94.8/37.7. Very impressed.

  • Just dusted off my Ozbargain account to give AussieBB a ringing endorsement. In our case they hounded NBN over four months, to get NBN to fix a fault they kept denying, while keeping us updated regularly (Will, Chris, you're legends!). These guys are seriously on the ball if you have a problem. And if you're on the decrepit FTTN network, sooner or later, unfortunately you probably will. Best RSP in Oz, period.

  • Any comments on ABB regarding p2p, torrent etc stuffs? Currently telecube has no issue with that but has sometimes speed issues & ips from all over australia. Sometimes from Tassie to Darwin and in between.

    • +1

No issues on torrents, most of well seeded ones dl at about 5.5/6mbs on my 50/20 connection

  • just signed ,just wondering I still can use the modem from TPG? N300 WiFi Gigabit Router NF7 ?

    • Is it locked to TPG?

  • I just sign up with ABB 2 days ago. Can I still get this deal?

  • Has anyone had experience with wireless sattelite? Is it true that if that is only option, you can continue with adsl as the phone wont eventually be cut off.

  • Anymore deals for new sign ups? With Sumo at the moment and am ready to move
