  • 22cc ? maybe ok around the yard I guess

  • +2

22cc top handle, it's designed to be small and light for arborists to use for limbing whilst on a harness, not for bucking when on the ground. Think Stihl TS200 but cheaper (and not as good obviously!)

    OP you must be kidding.

    Homelite 37cc 350mm $148 Bunnings: https://www.bunnings.com.au/compare?products=3380624,3381256…,
    Great price LOL

    • +4

Homelite vs Makita, you kidding me?

      • -2

Makita is no more what it used to be, now it's comparable to Ryobi, Homelite and similar brands, all made in Asia.
Makita has gone cheap in manufacturing (they don't make it anyways) but still more expensive than other comparable brands.

          This one made in japan

        • @jjoker: Did you mean Dolmar is made in Japan? LOL

        • @dealhunt:

Yeah well they bought them in 91

  • I didnt think Bunnings price matched online stores?? Could be wrong

    • owest prices are just the beginning… that's our policy.
Bunnings' price guarantee applies to any lower price on an item that is currently stocked and available from an online store, or in a physical store in Australia. It applies where the other retailer’s final price, inclusive of delivery, taxes, fees and charges, is lower than our price on the day that the price guarantee is requested.

      • Good to know. Cheers

  • Bunning also sell this for $249

    • yeah, that is the point, you can get it 10% cheaper at Bunnings by price matching.

      • Bunning also sell this for $249 how can Bunnings price match their own same prices?

        • DO they lower their price on match pricing?

        • @smigglejiggle: They already have the same price.

        • +1

@dealhunt: I see, totally thought they would beat the price if it was the same. my bad.

        • @smigglejiggle: What about the title, where did you get the $224.10 from?

        • @dealhunt: Bunnings was $449 before, so the 10% discount would have applied.

        • @smigglejiggle: "it was $449" price gouging at the best and unfortunately in Australia consumers have no protection.

  • +1

Well they price matched it already

    • I would surely buy from sydneytools to help keep the Australian market monopoly free.

  • What's the normal price on this everyone seems to have it for $249 right now?

    EDIT: Sorry saw above $449

As an arborist I've been impressed with the quality of Makita saws in the past.
There is some conjecture around where Makita/Dolmar saws are now made/assembled.
I would assume the low end makita's will be made in china at the Dolmar plant?
They looked to be a top value proposition when they were made in Germany, and even now I would chance it myself.
    My 2c .

    • Makita now is only a brand of the past, it has gone cheap in manufacturing (not only chainsaws but everything) but prices are still higher than comparable manufacturer brands.
People still don't realise that not always a brand name compares to good quality.

      • We're not talking about makita's budget black range or any electrical tool.
These 'were' made by Dolmar in Germany.
        Have you used one yourself?

I have 3 stihl's and a husky but don't like putting them into groundy's hands , as they don't generally look after them like the owner who paid $1500-2500 each.

    • As an avid tree cutter and chainsaw collector I was curious too, I checked various forums and it is definitely made in Japan except it's not clear if it's a Zenoah or a Maruyama, either way likely an acceptable saw…if I didn't just pick up a MS192t I'd buy one

      • The only way to check it is to buy one.

  • Go Husqvarna or go home.

    • So, I want to chop down one tree, why would I spend over $1500 on a chainsaw when I can buy one on ebay for $200 that will do the job (of chopping down one tree and sitting in the shed for the rest of its life)

      • +1

That makes sense. If you are a regular user of the chainsaw then I suggest husqvarna. Just my .02

      • +1

To only cut one tree I suggest you do by hand and keep healthy :)

      • probably better to hire a Husky to chop down one tree with ease than buy a elcheapo chainsaw and struggle with it for twice as long on one tree

      • +1

It does depend on the tool. Not to state the obvious but certain tools are just inherently dangerous to use, and so the quality of brakes, chains, blades, rails etc can come into play. Now, is an eBay tool definitely going to injure someone? No, I wouldn't say categorically, but with a tool like a chain saw it's important to weigh up the risk/reward ratio as to whether it's worth paying someone who has bought the expensive tools, and forego the charge to hire them rather than buying the tool. There are some real horror stories of people being injured with chainsaws, they are very unforgiving and can cause extreme injury very quickly.

I'm not trying to tell people to suck eggs here, I just that I think TB has a good point, in that some tools it's worth paying the premium or just hiring someone with those tools, if it might mean you are less risk of serious injury.

The proof is in the pudding. Odds are someone will say I'm full of shit, buy a cheap tool, get injured and then have to live with the injury. If that doesn't phase people, go right ahead, but I value my limbs and my livelihood more than a couple of hundred bucks, but that's just me.

        • An ebay chainsaw is a copy off a big brand so they are not dangerous…. that is silly
They just use low quality parts.

        • @AMLagonda: if the chain brake doesn't work in 1/10 sec ,
then that's a big farkn difference!

        • Im not gonna argue with you guys, But I have chopped down a huge tree with a $40 electric chainsaw so really you don't need anything fancy, as long as you know what you are doing…..

        • -1

@AMLagonda: Marketing is the art for selling people what they don't need.

        • @AMLagonda:god willing
And good luck to U ,
PS. Life insurance is a good idea

        • @AMLagonda: I'm sorry but dribble,,!

    • Go Husqvarna

That is the best brand all around the world.

      • Husqvarna use single ring pistons while Stihl use two.
        Guess which one last longer?

  • how does this compare to my stihl ms 660 magnum :)

  • This one's easier to juggle ..

  • I have to say , clueless people posting about chainsaws is scary.
Go work for a treelopping co and get back to us.
