  • What length are the leather straps?

I couldn't see any dimensions but they do look nice ~ I need 210mm or 220mm…

    • Hey singlefished!

The side with the buckle is 80mm and the other side is 120mm.

Thanks Strapify, 200mm just a bit tight for my wrists :(

Natos look real nice but still a bit pricey.

    Re leather: https://nstarleather.wordpress.com/2018/05/31/the-grades-of-…

  • OP what is the leather's origin please?

    • Hey PJC, leather is from a tannery in Spain :)

      • Thank you.

      • leather is from a tannery in Spain

unsurprising, tauromaquia is common there too

Top grain leather is one of the best leathers money can buy as it is soft and durable

OP top grain is not one of the best leathers money can buy, it is simple middle of the road leather
it is despite its name not top quality (a common mistake people make, by reading the word top, is to associate it with top quality, which it is not)

Full grain > top grain > genuine leather

    WRT top grain leather:
The finished product ends up being a bit plastic-y, and not nearly as durable as the best quality leather — full grain. It will not age well with use, and will end up looking old and worn after a time.
This finish of leather is great, however, if you don’t care as much about durability and more about the colour of your leather item, or its resistance to stain

On the other hand Full-grain is hard-as-nails leather that will develop a rich patina as it ages, looking more and more beautiful as you use it. It’s widely recognised as the best and highest-quality leather money can buy.

Often much more expensive, full-grain pays dividends with its durability. If you invest in an item made with full-grain leather, you will probably have that item for the rest of your life if you take care of it properly

There's no comparison between this and cheap 'genuine leather'.

Just as there is no comparison between full grain and top grain leather :)

    • Thx docians, great in-depth post.

  • Excuse my ignorance, but why are these called "straps" and not "belts"?

Is there a technical reason, or is it a mason-jar drinking beard-oil man-bun kinda thing?

    • +1

      … is it a mason-jar drinking beard-oil man-bun kinda thing?

Oh come on! It is very unfair to blame WatchNerd.

  • Leather straps were all the go when I was at school, teachers loved them.

  • I recently bought 3 straps handmade from https://www.aaronbespoke.com/artists/ which is based in Canada for approx. $950 AUD.

Ordered 1 x ostrich leg leather, 1x alligator leather and 1 x python leather. They look absolutely superb. Added padding which makes them look fuller.

Cheap straps are great for normal watches.

If you have a watch that is worth upwards of a few grand (Panerai, Jaeger LeCoultre, Omega, Ulysses Nardine etc.) it pays to have matching quality straps.

Does anyone know how to clean watch straps? I have an alcantra strap I bought years ago from Italy and would love to clean it properly.

3 straps for $950 sounds like a bargain, I might get a couple for my Naviforce 9044.

      • +1

Didn't you order an albino crocodile strap for that Geneva watch?

    • Lol perhaps you are asking in the wrong forum.

I'm amazed that the Alcantara strap, didn't come with care instructions :) Or perhaps they are in Italian :)

Jokes aside don't even know what Alcantara is but hoping it is full grain

    • Excellent! Was that the ostrich's left leg or right?

      • really depends on whether he wears his watch on the right hand or left :)
more interested in knowing if it was full grain/ top grain or genuine Ostrich leather
also ironic? that they have a "Distressed" Ostrich leg leather, as if the other poor birds were not distressed

        • At those prices the bird probably donated the leg voluntarily. "Go on Mister take it I don't mind, I can still hop with the other leg and birds can fly, you know. Oh hang on …"

        • @PJC:

Not really. They only need the skin for the leather. If it is top grain only the top part of the skin

Hopefully the poor Ostrich didn't lose his leg

        • @docians: I'll bet it lost much more.

        • @PJC:

Did he? I thought you said he is hopping n flapping

        • @docians: I doubt he can find his pride.

        • @PJC:

Members of his 'pride' should be able to spot him easily with his proud flesh.

    • @suspect

[email protected] might be able to help you
he sells Alcantara straps as well, (or Alcantra as you say) and may know a thing or two about proper cleaning them
Also I do hope the Italian shop did not sell you Roy Ban sunglasses, along with those Alcantra straps

      • Lol he said the name of the game was not to get them dirty.

They are actually very impressive and are very special straps for very special watches.

I understand it is by no means a bargain but they are custom made to the exact specifications I was after with colours of choice.

Yes, my daily straps are cheap throw aways but these straps will last a lifetime and the plan is to hand them down to the little ones with the watches.

        • just curious why you would ask us bargain hunters, if we knew how to clean these straps
Our cow leather straps simply don't last long enough to accumulate dirt on them

If I were in the envious position of driving a German Car, or donning reptilian/ avian straps, surely I would have an equally un common website to peruse :)

    • Can't you get your servant to find out your answer for you?
